Ivar will bounce back in Season 6. His travels with the Rus’ and then coming up against Alfred is going to be insane.

Ragnar: an impredictible, fierceful, traveler, lil crazy and a great warrior. All of his sons have some of his personality and maybe more than his father. Ivar: the impredictable. It reminds me of ragnar when he first met yidu and eventually killing her for no reason. Bjorn: always the warrior side of his dad from ironside. His way of rulling cattegat reminds me a lot of ragnar. Not rushing to make any decisions. And a fierceful viking for sure Ubbe: the traveler side from ragnar obviously it's in ubbe. And also one of the greatest warrior from vikings. Hvitserk: this guy took the crazyness from ragnar and took it to another level. It reminds me when ragnar start to take drugs from yidu to avoid a reality that was hurting him. In this case, hvitserk was a drunk Siggurd: the gentleman, i knew he wouldn't survive because he's to mellow to be a viking. Too much heart into it.

Sigurd just said he didn't want to follow him, his reasoning being Ivar needs to grow up. Ivars response is something about Sigurd being gay lol, and although it is funny, the situation escalated because of Ivar. And it was Ivar who eventually killed Sigurd. He began the petty insults, and when Sigurd responded in turn, Ivar killed him. For me, there is one thing that could've improved Ivars character in the show. And that is if he didn't kill Sigurd, because although I don't support Ivars actions against Lagertha they are understandable and I don't dislike him for it. I just can't forgive the death of Sigurd, at least by Ivars hand. But what could've worked, is if Ivar and Sigurd both went to England with Ragnar. Because although they bickered, they were still very close (Ivar and Sigurd). It was just 'banter' they had with each other as the two youngest brothers , and they both would take it to far in some cases. But if they both journeyed to England with Ragnar (remember it would've been their maiden voyages - I assume it would have been Sigurds since Ivar and Sigurds first battle was against Northumbria, so unless Sigurd voyages somewhere and didn't fight this could have been his first trip). So it is both of their first trip overseas, and it is both of their own bonding time with Ragnar. And although they fight, they are obviously still brothers (Ivars regret at killing Sigurd shows there was some love there, and Sigurds attempts to connect also show he cared). But long story short, Sigurd dies at the hands of Wessex when they capture Ragnar. Since they want Ragnar alive they don't kill him, they just beat him, and they don't see Ivar as a threat so they leave him (similar to the show, just Sigurd is there and is killed, perhaps by Aethelwulf). This would explain Ivars anger, since this would be him actually seeing Wessex/England butchering someone close to him (remember none of Ragnars sons witnessed Ragnars death). It would explain why Ivar is angrier than the other sons, he witnessed them kill his brother. It would also explain why Ragnar suddenly wanted Ivar to be "ruthless", instead of wanting him to pursue peace. It would explain why Ivar was so against peace with England. Plus, it has the benefit of Sigurd would still die around the same time, but it wouldn't be Ivar that killed him. And in terms of character development it would be the exact same, it would give Ivar regrets and anger, it would explain it better, and it would show that whilst brutal and stubborn, he's not evil. The worst thing Ivar has done in the show is kill Sigurd, and there were just better ways for it to happen on the show. It also would've been a prime opportunity to bring back the brutal deaths, with the Norse music (like King Horik, Jarl Borg, and other deaths). Which the show has surprisingly been lacking of late. The only thing that doesn't work with it, is that Hirst has said that he wants Ivar to be seen as evil. It's just in the current state of the show, it isn't working. Many fans do see him as evil, but many fans don't. This would bridge the gap, yes he would still be as ruthless and cold-hearted, but there would be a better explanation in place so it would be more forgivable.
