Operation Homemade Toffifee!

- Attempting to make homemade Toffifee / Toffifay for Mrs Barry after the kids and I gobbled them all up was a little trickier than I thought it would be... but they turned out great after some patience! A toffifee is a yummy hazelnut nougat, holding a hazelnut, sat in a caramel bucket with a chocolate dot on top - hopefully like mine this is to cover up the hazelnut underneath! A fun project this one :)

Toffee-fee. Very interesting to hear your pronunciation(even if it’s most likely the correct one), since that is not how you say it where I live.
I pronounce it as Toffee fee like it’s 2 separate words

Here in the US, it's pronounced "Toffee Fay" in the commercials. 😂
That's because it's actually called toffifay here. They changed the name for marketing.

@anomie nous It all depends on a lot of things. Americans pronounce cafe, caffay. Also, some Americans do pronounce it coupay.

You're using the wrong kind of nougat, in Germany we call "noisette/gianduja" nougat. Basically a mix of chocolate and hazelnuts and sugar. Like Nutella, but with 50 per cent nuts instead of just 13.
And now you need to watch Ando's video where he makes gianduia to show where nutella comes from! ("noisette" is French for hazelnut; "gianduia" is Italian for the hazelnut ganache nutella is based on.)
I think that toffie from twiks recepie will be good substitute and price is much much better...try it please...best wishes from croatia❤

Barry just a little tip for testing the caramel. Put a small plate in the freezer for a few minutes and then take a spoon to put a little bit of caramel on the cold plate. Immediately pull your finger through it and check the result.
If it stays in place it is thick enough.
If it flows back boil it a bit longer.
If you burn your finger.. well.. the plate wasn't cold enough. :p

NO HOW COULD YOU NOT slice open one of your DIY Toffifee and show the inside and the layers??!! I need it, I need to see it please.
3:05 judging by the cross-section, you do the caramel bowl, first, then dip the nut in, then pour the nougat on top, and then give it a choco cap. It's probably a bit more complicated than what you did in the vid, though.
keep the caramel in a pot with near boiling water. Stays liquid, pour it in the mold, turn the mold upside down so everything except a solidified layer that touched the sides flows out and leaves a cave for some melted nougat and the nut.

Quick tip for people out there, the deformation point of PE plastics is 105 C so you can start pouring toffee into the "mold" at around 90 C to make it easier for yourself if you ever want to do this. Or just buy a silicone mold mat.

Could someone please explain to me the difference between single cream and double cream? Since I am from Germany I can't think of anything similar to that. Thanks =)
In the United States, it would be cream or maybe even light cream for the single cream, and heavy cream for the double cream. Difference is the thickness, really. (I loved the thick, almost leathery cream from the top of Jersey cow's milk from my childhood. Almost as thick as butter... )
German here =) It's pronounced like Toffee and fee is pronounced feh here. a long e like in egg.
Nougat - gat is pronounced with an a like in astronaut. at least here, in Germany. Not sure if it's pronounced like that all around the world.
Your Toffifees are bigger than those in Germany btw - our packs have the same size, but they hold 15 of these yummy little half spheres.
Great video btw. Will definetly try to make some myself but will make the Toffee from scratch and try to make thin little disks out of it that are fitted into the mold by warming them carefully until they sink in. Or i'll cover up the edges of a half sphere silicone mold and let some of the toffee run out like you did with that hot chocolate bombs to create giant Toffifees.
Then put in a hazlenut, fill up with nougat (you should be able to get pure nougat bars at the baking racks in every grocery store) and put a bit of sweetened dark chocolate on top.
Toh-fee-fee and nuu-gah. Vego is a vegan version of Nutella with hazelnut chunks in. They also do chocolate bars as well which are amazing (if slightly pricey) treat.
They looked way better than I was expecting watching them get assembled! But she knew right away haha XD and OMG Mrs B is so pretty, she looks like Jenna Fisher during the office years :D

We have them in the states but ours aren't made with nougat, rather we have chocolate ganache or a chocolate cream around the hazelnut everything else is exactly the same!
Ther are to types of nougat, a hard (white) one and a soft (brown) one.
In toffifee it's the soft brown one.
The brown soft one this made for hasselnuts and chocolate. The white one is sugar and egg whites.

I noticed you used sugar free toffee, which is great if you're doing a diabetic-friendly version. But I was wondering if it impacted the taste at all compared to using toffee made with real sugar?
