As a Haitian-born American, I'm most pleased to see a vocal ensemble of a different powerful and rich nation play a piece of music that originates from my powerless, poverty stricken native country. Although some cynical people will say that's not a big thing, nevertheless it's a rare occurrence and I appreciate it. Finally, since the news from the old country aren't that great these days let me borrow a phrase from a TV commercial and say: "I needed that!" - FRITZ

Omg... I am so proud to be part of such a rich culture... Our culture is a combination of African, European and Spanish... We have one of the richest culture in the world. Unfortunately we are misunderstood by too many... ..

I like this rendition of Papa Loko! My school just recently sang this in our top choir... the only thing that I would recommend is that since this a happy and upbeat song the choir needs to dance a little bit! my choir did that and we looked and sounded way better when we danced along!

Great job. The pronunciation sounds really american from how we do it but the singing is phenomenal.

I believe the name Papa 'Loko' is a corruption of the Yoruba Orisha Olokun over the generations.

Papa loco is neither African Spanish or french in origin. It is Taino arawak. Pay homage to all your ancestors haitians.

That's correct, Taino, Arawak and Carib Tribes from Haiti and many other islands such as Puerto Rico recognize Papa Loko (also spelled Loco) as a loa, patron of healers and plants, especially trees. This Deity was inherited from the Haitians Arawak ancestors. He is derived from the Arawak Deity Louquo, a founding ancestor of the Arawak people.
