the fact that adam has sung it so many times that each line has its own situation is beautiful 8:00
They forgot the "Ninkie Minjaaaj" though 😢
Sam could never compete

Some of the locations repeated
With such a consistent singing tone as well
“Personally i think its better without sound” is diabolical as we see Adam seething
The fact you could clearly tell what he was saying aswell 😭

Unironically adopting "right now it kinda feels like it's so over but maybe soon we'll be so back" as my new life philosophy
lol me too.
start of the test: its sooooo over
end of the test: we are so back
For almost the entire first half hour, I was CONVINCED that Adam was indeed south from the game start location on the end of the peninsula, and honestly if he was, with this sequence of questions it would have been so good for him
Don't think so, the photo of tallest mountain question would have basically told them that the mountain situation look suspiciously similar to where they just started the day, and they would have asked different questions from that point onwards.
He was in some serious mountains, so it could not have been that peninsula tip, also he was clearly very much inland and not anywhere near the ocean.
It’s more so that right at the beginning they showed the clip of Sam saying something like “it would be incredibly unlikely that he went south from the start” which felt a perfect clip to include to flashback to when we learn he is indeed south, and then every question they asked ruled out more and more of the map and each time IT STILL could have been there, I wad like “no way, absolutely no way Adam did that”
That was a mistake on his part, in my opinion. He SHOULD have gone south. He needed a HUGE gamble to get anywhere near the winning tune. If he had gone south, sure, there would have been a big risk of them figuring that out right away, and being able to pinpoint and get to him quickly on a small sliver of the map. But the reward if they didn't figure it out right away would have been them heading in the wrong direction and looking in the wrong area for several hours at least. And it turns out that's exactly what they did do. They were headed north before they even started asking him questions, and their initial questions would not have revealed the trick. I think Adam is too risk adverse as a player to have considered something like that, but even if he hadn't pulled it off, it would've been great content.
That would be an collosal mistake, as there's only a single train going farther south and terminates in a dead end. A better option would be to head to the middle of the peninsula, for example to Shuzenji, but that too leaves no room for the seekers to overshoot the station, or take the wrong line.
33:08 Adam’s growing rage at his card luck is too funny, karma for his use of the cards on his first run
"(You have to be kidding me. You _have_ to be kidding me!)"
the Universe saw how poorly he played his cards and said: "Nah, you clearly don't know how these work unlike Ben so we gonna give ya nothing but time"
Also the fact that he has so little time on his clock that far into the epsiode and such a small area for the hiders to check. Why do I think this run was a complete disaster for Adam. 😅😂😢
The fact that people are continuing to think Adam blundered with cards during his first run even though you saw that the veto isn’t that powerful as you might have thought is a bit depressing. Ben also agreed that his decision to not use it was right. Adam genuinely doesn’t deserve the hate he is getting.
@@Shkiperkir bro if he used the veto for one of the questions in his first run that would of bought him so much extra time, they wouldve thought he was somehwere else and that could of been the winning run
35:42 It was so depressing not seeing the Snack Zone graphic (Or even the Choo-Choo-Chew graphic) when all the players were talking about having a s snack and getting lunch.
And then hearing Ben talk about the 'cooking zone' at 41:42 without any acknowledgement of the Snack Zone killed me, para-social relationships be damned.

I wish they’d commit harder to the final hiding spot. After the opening of this episode, I 100% thought Adam going to hide under the water, breathing through a straw like he’s hiding from the predator.
Yeah there must be an unspoken agreement about the final hiding spot being not crazy. Otherwise they could really hide for unlimited amount of times
they have to hide within 10ft of a path. it is very much a spoken agreement
@@MartinRamettetheres one about not being a certain amount of feet away from a trail

@@spelunkyboyIt's not like. A bad thing? Idk tho he feels much too good at social interactions
@ You've got my words wrong. I said I *don't* think he's on the spectrum.
I find it fascinating that compared to Switzerland, the medium game has always led to trouble whereas the short game has been pretty straightforward every time. Nothing like the secret playground or the woods of Winterthur.
The 'stay within 10 feet of a public road' is pretty restrictive. I get why it exists but they could make it like 25 feet to truly make the hider hide
@@cg0499 I agree. 25 feet allows hiding in nature but not so much that it becomes impossible to find someone, and they could have to use some good photo clues and cold/warm towards the end to really make interesting use of the curse cards.
I feel like you could still maybe hide in the foliage next to the road or any normal hiding spot. it annoys me so much watching them just sit on a bench, visible in a 300m radius, EVERY TIME
@@mrsquid_I mean, if you were to have to sit in a spot in a foreign country for hours without being able to move, you’re probably pick a bench too

Remember the times where Episodes where just like 20 minutes long? This is so much better.
i dont mind either way ngl, but they somehow make the WHOLE hour here super entertaining. i dont know how they do it
Photos and strava maps are really the main things that help you find the hider, there needs to be a much bigger penalty for using them
Given the amount of time they had to spend searching for it, even while on that train, that's penalty enough.
@@Dead_Anteater Tentacles was useful both times they were within range; it's not the game's fault they asked it twice and received a 15-mile radar for an answer. Also remember that they didn't figure out the Strava this time for nearly FIVE hours. It's still needle-in-a-haystack from that vantage point.
You mean find the hider. The seekers are... seeking.
I agree that the cost may be too low. But it's still a clever mechanic in that jt is generally not useful until the hiding region has been narrowed down a lot (as others have said) + the fact that if you choose a denser area that's easier to hit with a radar you can probably choose a route with 90° turns only. I think hiding in a tiny featureless village would be OP if that tool was missing.
@@Dead_Anteater I feel like the tentacles were added more to deal with Tokyo and other super dense cities. If someone picked that as their hiding zone narrowing them down is going to be a nightmare. The tentacles help narrow that down since they're for things you'd find in urban areas.
So they've been less useless because no one has hid in a dense urban area.
omgg pls never stop doing these. even as grandpas do a we played hide and seek across retirement homes or a we played a 72 hr game of tag across the garden walking with our canes or smthn

or have something like the tom scott plus episode where you have two players playing and two additional players (the boys) connected by earpiece who are giving them hints and doing all the strategizing and looking at maps and timetables
It’s 7:30am and breakfast is served, but we have to go go go (Ben with a walker shuffles quickly away from while Adam and Sam drink black decaf coffee)

Those hangman games were great, I love how adam predicted sam and ben's mindset
16:23 Imagine minding your own business, living in this small village where everyone knows each other and gets along, and then you see this grow, foreign man eating noodles on the side of the road, death staring a camera.
Rural towns are usually quite happy to see tourists. Usually the Japanese see (a reasonable amount of) toursist as interesting and livening up the place, and they support the local economy. They see tourists as a good thing, whereas in other countries toursist may be perceived as a nuisance.

The bird curse has insane potential. If you get a few minutes of bird footage it could easily take hours to clear that. So IMO Adam's card luck wasn't that bad
Maybe, but Adam's bird luck was terrible.
I'm hoping that this only applies to wild birds, else a nearby pet shop could be devastating...
@@solracer66 A nearby pet shop or ... *dun dun dun* ... a chicken !
Could be 15 minutes, could be 24 seconds.
Frozen dot could win him the game tbh... just snipe the expected location and they wait an HOUR for the next train
I love that you guys are willing to put out an hour long video. I can't get enough Jetlag.
Unfortunately, the next episode is only 55 minutes...😢😢😢
@@jkhoover lets call it an hour long video ^^
40:50 curse of the frozen dot feels very useful, if it can force them off a train at a random stop in the middle of nowhere. You could get 2 hours out of it
exactly! I really don't know why they are against using it....
The casting cost prbly wouldn’t work
@@enzoli23 Because it only works if the seekers are at that place, in exactly 15 minutes. If the seeker was even 1 second late, the card wouldn't do anything, and on top of that, it would be really hard to predict where a train will be in 15 minutes since the train's speed isn't always proportional, not even mentioning the station stops, traffic stops, and etc
@ they need to be "within 250 feet of that point", and with the punctuality of trains in Japan, it could have been useful. For example, if Adam used it, placing the dot at Kofu train station 10-15 mins before their scheduled arrival, it would have frozen the seekers.
@enzoli23 casting coat is that they can't be within 15 miles. So if he wasn't, it would give a free 15-mile radar for them, and if it was, it wouldn't work
Adam being so pessimistic this round is such an Adam thing to do
yeah
I mean, imagine getting so many five minute cards and only a single curse halfway through his hiding time
@@TheTranspotterI hate how I read this in Adam’s voice.
@ Read what, sorry?
@TheTranspotter They read "yeah" in Adam's voice hehe
Honestly for how terrible Adam's draw card is, I'm kinda amazed at him able to get a decent time for his second run. That being said, the best 'curse' that Sam and Ben get is the one that they inflicted on themselves lol (But, still a justified gambit for them to take)
yeah, it was largely down to them opting for the slow train to Kofu in the end.
It is so nice of Ben to do a snack zone in the middle of a nebula read. Bon appetite Ben. 1:06:40

I KNOW I can't believe you're first comment mentioning that bit 😭
I think you guys should make it where even if the game ends, the last hider’s run isn’t over until they are found (or win by outlasting the current top run) - otherwise I am loving this game format!
I always had that exact same thought. Others suggested just giving everyone 2 runs without a fixed time limit, but I always felt that would just be less exciting. Just making the last run extend beyond the games end time would ensure that the seekers have a motivation to find the hider until the very end and also give the runner after that the hope of maybe pulling of a winning run. I legit had this thought since Tag Season 1 and was surprised to never see anyone bring this idea up, but here it finally is ^^
If I'm not mistaken, that is already the rule based on what they've said in the episodes and on the Layover
@ Really? I haven't listened to the Layover, so I can't confirm that. It would definitely be a rule change then though and they haven't mentioned that so far. But still if that's true it would obviously be great
@@MysteriumMystery They don't mention a lot of these finer game rules in the episodes, apparently for the sake of the "pacing". Like for example they don't really explain how the veto/randomize cards work until you have to infer the rules by how they are used. I can confirm that they mentioned this provision about the last run in the Layover.
Adam just walking away instantly when getting 3 5-min bonuses is such an Adam thing to do
I thought he was going to climb into the train tracks lol
Would've loved to see a "It's so over" and "We're so back" visual, sorta like Ben and Adam's Dune power meter from Australia🤣
Also the blurred feet is a gem, and can't wait to see how the move card is used next week
I was super hoping for a Dune Power-esque meter too XD
I'm imaging Bob Hale from Horrible Histories and his religion-o-meter (catholic-protestant through English history)
17:29 A little correction: Japan's first-level administrative divisions are the prefectures, not the regions. These regions are only for statistical purposes. I was confused for a little bit when I read this.
To be more precise: Japan’s first-level administration divisions are the 47 prefecture-level jurisdictions because the following are not named in “県” in Japanese kanji:
1) Tokyo (東京都)
2) Hokkaido (北海道)
3) Kyoto (京都府) and Osaka (大阪府) Prefectures
That’s why Japan has a specific term called “都道府県” to refer all the 47 prefecture-level jurisdictions.
@@RicciChoi1109 Very informative. Thank you.
Very similar to the U.S. in this way. The 50 states are divided into 9 census divisions and 4 regions, but those are meaningless federally.
This is indeed the case, but it's their game and their rules. The regions are also oftenly used in tourism and travel, and have clearly defined borders. But I agree they shouldn't have called it "first level administrative region". Other than that it's a perfectly valid thing to include, iyam.
I'm guessing that's just what they call it in the home game so that it's applicable to any country, there's probably something in the rules for that to clarify how those are defined so that first-level splits it only max 10 ways or something
Lots of photo questions is a good strategy to annoy the hider. They keep having to give up whatever they were doing and take the photo.
I feel like a good strategy for the seekers would be to ask a photo question like 'photo of the tallest building from the station' while you're about 10-15 minutes away from the end game station, assuming you already know it from Strava map or something, just to force them out of their hiding spot and potentially drag them closer to the station. Not very gentlemanly though.
@@SquidsEye there is a 15 minute time limit for each photo question, so the hider would have the option to wait it out until they get there and say "i cant move because you guys are here"
@@drcgaming4195 I'd argue that deliberately waiting out the timer while you are still allowed to move would count as cheating. The 15 minutes is to give you enough time to take the photo, and until the end game is actually started, you're obligated to attempt to answer the question.
Depending on where they hide you could just give them a free 30mins doing that.
I'd also argue that the hider can go straight back to their hiding spot if they were forced by a question like that (the endgame freeze is only to stop the hider actively evading seekers, not to trap them)
@@Dr.Death8520 Maybe, but any question has a chance of giving them a free 30 minutes, that's part of the gamble. And no, they can't go back to their hiding spot, once the end game is in play, you're not allowed to move. That's why Adam got caught short in his first run and had to improvise a worse spot, you need to be hidden in place before they arrive at the station.
the shot of both trains moving at the same time at 15:47 is so satisfying
Kyoto would be a really good hiding place because of the low volume of trains (preference for buses) and it being kind of metro and dense but also very close to nature
And also you could possibly disguise yourself among the hordes of tourists.
Japan is just the perfect country for hide and seek. Every single hiding location has been an absolutely beautiful location. (the airport was probably the most beautiful to Sam)
I think Sam has a great winning chance if he uses his move card and just doesnt get out of the station he is in. The chasers would never guess that
and what if the chasers pullin out the "2.5 miles card" just to make sure that sam is really leave from that area
unironically adopting “right now it kinda feels like it’s so over but maybe soon we’ll be so back” as my new life philosophy
I love how the gamblers feet curse has been so notorious throughout this season
imagine playing this game in a smaller area, but the hider has the capiability to lie every once in a while , and the seekers get notified of the presence of the lie after every 3 questions, and they need to guess which question the hider lied to. it might cause some chaos and a new spin on the game
Noice idea mahn but it would mess the hell out of them
That’s such a good idea lol.
Or the hider deck has a "lie about an answer" card. Casting cost is a time penalty, and they have to inform the hiders when they draw it (but not necessarily when they play it)
@@kayleighlehrman9566 Time penalty *and* having to tell the seekers (which I assume you mean) sounds a bit much.
That Was My Idea

This is the best version of curses / questions systems so far and Hide-and-Seek has definitely been the most enjoyable genre for me. That being said, there are some necessary changes imo:
1. Allow runners to change strava map rotation, so it's not just scanning maps but is still useful
2. Increase distance from the road, so that the hider can actually hide
3. less time bonuses, more curses. I feel like either changing the time bonus system or reducing the amount would be great, as they aren't really fun to watch and are pretty much completely luck based.
Strava map rotation came to my mind as well
there are wayyyy too many five minute bonuses imo
@bogus_amogus
They actually talked about this on a layover of a podcast, basically their argument was, not mine,
reason why they so many-time bonuses is because they were initially considering putting in blank cards because they didn’t want questions to be very expensive but they still wanted some random chance and they didn’t want a coin system or a dice systems
So the compromise was the cards are currency so they had to include some “blank cards”
4. randomize question should cross out the original question asked, not the one answered
Two things: First: Could you please do a Hide and seek in Germany? Second: I think, that the strava map should cost more cards becaue it's so overused and overpowerd. But overall you guys do such good videos thank you!
Have you heard of “Deutschland Strikes Back”?

1:04:22 Ha! Immediately recognized Sam's new hiding spot :D
So cool to see a spot I happen to be so familiar with in the series.
My brain immediately went to Tokiwa park, Asahikawa, Hokkaido. It's obviously way too far, and looking at streetview now, my memory seems to have gotten mixed up with something else, perhaps the actual location. Damn, I wanna find it now 😅 (don't tell me though, please)
Edit: found it. Yeah I've been to that town, but not that exact spot. Nice though. And a good hiding spot, in theory.

Sam and Ben looking for a bird immediately took me back to the fourth series with drunk Ben shouting “Bird alert! Bird alert!” and “Is that a bird or a cup?” 😂😂😂🦅
Adam being bummed about having Time Bonus cards when they ended up giving him an extra hour, over having Curses he'll hold onto and never fully utilise, is such an Adam Thing to do.
I mean, time bonuses are better in the endgame, but in the beginning when distance is what matters you really want good Curses (especially since his time bonuses sucked)
Adam chilling in a Japanese river was not on my bingo card for this season
how did you manage to get the top 2 comments
I think Strava map needs to be removed. nerfed, or reworked in some way. The fact that it's consistently an always ask question every season point towards it being a problem. Additionally, the fact that it can confirm the exact location from anywhere where other photos in the category will generally only confirm the location when you are there sets it apart from its category which should be the least powerful category.
i am so grateful for this show man
This is my first season of jet lag and the cards are so fun, it’s hard to go back to older seasons of hide and seek. Keep up the great work!
There was just one season before this, and it was not well-designed.
Ye some of the older jet lags definitely had some balancing issues. XD Still great fun tho
Heya! For the next series it would be really fun if there was a trap mechanic. For example, every hider can choose 3 questions to be 'trapped' while they hide. The seekers don't know which ones these are and have to pay double or triple if they ask it. Could be a cool mechanic!
If possible guaranteeing a curse could also be cool to try and get curses before you get spammed by 10 other questions

26:25 came to check if feet were in-fact blurred on RUclips, and yes they were - wow what a perk of being a Nebula subscriber :p
For the incredible bad luck Adam had in this round, he actually did extraordinarily well.
And also, he found a really cool place in the mountains that also isn't over-built with giant hotels and resorts, as many such places seem to head to, if they're not there already. It's on my wishlist!
I feel like the move in this one (which sam almost did in his first run) is to get really close to the chaser's same starting shinkansen line yet technically being closer to a different one. Adam definitely could have pulled that off this run.
I CANT WAIT FOR THE NEXT SEASON! They show who the guest is at the end of the next episode and Holy hell I have missed that man. I mean I watch clips of his podcast but wow I can't believe he will be there.
