this game accurately captures the reality we live in so perfectly, ppl using power and influence to achieve their twisted desires while in the process trampling on all those powerless and helpless along the way, even if it meant losing themselves to their sins. this game is so layered that it's scary...

I admit. I played this game because of Joker getting into Smash. Now it's one of my top 5 favorite games. Should have played it sooner and not have had Joker getting into Smash convince me to play it.
If it weren't for joker in smash I would never have even heard of Persona. Persona 3 is the best of the series so far (haven't played 2 or 4 and we do NOT talk about 1)
I think I *REALLY* started to like Ann later on in the game when she was able to talk about Kamoshida with everyone. Sure, she earned my respect when Kamoshida was going to kill himself and she told him that Shiho was still alive and told him not to run away from it. That takes guts. Good on her.
Tenshi Foxx she even whored to kamoshida for shiho's future being on the volleyball team when it was the only thing she was good at. no friend would go out of their way like she did. mad respecc for anne.
You could tell how bad the academy was, having a PE teacher who abuses his students and forces himself onto the girls there. A decent government would've sacked or jailed Kobayakawa for hiring a teacher like that

The whole theme of p5 was about crooked adults getting away with shit (e.g 7 deadly sins). the distorted adults would rather save their own skin when shit hit the fan. Kobayakawa was even in on it. Why else you think he was covering up for kamoshida's crimes at the school? Even the teachers and PARENTS knew about how kamoshida abuses his students. Stated by mishima himself. You're naive and foolish to think the government haven't had a handling on the matter as well. The order for the mc's execution without even seeing the body is proof enough how corrupt the Japanese system is. Get swept under the rug like nothing happened just like at shujin academy.
@@Evil_Beauty She actually didn't. Ann went straight home after talking with Joker. That's why Kamoshida got so irritated that he wound up causing Shiho's suicide attempt. Had Joker not shown up to help her when he did, Ann may well have actually given in to Kamoshida there. The fact that Joker, a total stranger up until then, was still concerned enough to want to help her is what gave Ann the guts to not give in to Kamoshida.
One of the best feelings is knowing the answers for the exams. I kinda just remembered b/c I had to reset my save multiple times so I learned every answer to questions asked in class lol
Persona 5 has got to be the most well written and best persona game. Characters we’ve never seen before and the most emotional scenes. The game puts you on a feel train and it’s amazing. And how heartbreaking it is that even on the true ending you’re crimes are still unforgivable.
I agree completely, however out of everything this game has done right I was the most impressed about their implementation of mainline smt mechanics. It felt like a persona game that could appeal to both sides and quench some of the persona v smt arguments.

A.M. well I have something admit.... well kinda .... I tried to drown my younger brother who had well that mental disorder I few years back like I was just 12 and then... sometimes I think it’s not me... it a devil’s temptations I had some counseling and I was able to think positive for a while I may be sad but at least I’m not trying to harm other or even kill my self from the hanging .... there so much spots at my school where I would’ve died but I resisted thanks.... I feel like should talk about this with my other friends
I must admit that the game was much more enjoyable than my life. The game made me felt like I have real friends aside, a school life that I had ever dreamt of but never achieved.
I always felt that with P4 when I was younger. I connected to the characters so much, I always wanted to be a part of their lives. To this day I'll still say it's my favorite game. P5R came out recently and reminded me how much I love this series. Such beautiful games, glad I grew up with them.
I had to put my dog of almost 15 years to sleep today, and this song is all I could hear in the back of my mind. I still can't fully comprehend that he's gone, and that I'll never see him again.

Major Royal spoilers below I wrote a confession for the final boss because we never got one "Hey there, Shujin Academy students. It's a beautiful day out, isn't it? It must be a real shame to be cooped up inside. Some of you may be wondering what I'm doing back here, since my time at Shujin ended several months ago. No, haha, I can't give you any financial advice now...or any advice at all, as I'm not worthy to do so. I will not be returning, and I ask that you disregard everything I have told you during counseling sessions with me. I was not in my right mind, and I acted in a manner unbefitting of a counselor. I sought out particular students for...preferential treatment. I would bribe them and gain their trust with gifts of food. I ingratiated myself into their personal lives- treating them as friends and confidants rather than professional clients as I should have- and used the information I'd gathered from our sessions to...to manipulate them into doing what I believed was best for them. I encouraged them to do things that any competent therapist would have immediately seen as unhealthy. I even followed them to school and...and to their homes, to keep tabs on them. I also utilized one particular student's brilliant mind for the sake of my career. I became far closer with him than I should have, and abused my authority to do so, hoping he would help me with my research- I even blackmailed him using confidential information so he would keep helping me. In doing so, I have ignored his own traumatic experiences. My actions toward him may take years more of therapy for him to recover from, but with any luck, he will find a better therapist than me to help him. I wasn't doing what a counselor should do. I wasn't helping you grow and overcome your trauma, but instead making you satisfied with never striving for a better self, a better world. I believed that because I couldn't move on from my own issues, no one else could either- I was so blinded by my own sorrow that I couldn't see the error of my ways, and that you are all so much stronger than this pathetic man you see before you. I have failed the students I was meant to help, and led you all astray! Please, please forgive me!"

Futaba, Akechi and Sae were all able to change themselves. For Futaba, it was because she wanted to avenge her mother, knowing that the suicide note was forged - For Sae, she realized that she was pursuing the wrong type of justice and Akechi was able to rely on the Phantom Thieves as they had a mutual enemy, so they would be able to avenge him and change Shido's heart to fix society
Even though their crimes were unforgiven, but still.. it can't be help but to feel sad for them. I wonder how would it be to live with that.. unbearable feeling of guilt, kinda sad, but wouldn't it stop people from committing them in the first place? what poor creatures we are.. we hate easily, jealousy and greedy.. committing sins is only part of our nature
It's hard to say but it really depends on many things, not just our nature. My opinion is it's the society and the enviroment around us defines what and who we are. But honestly, I think we always look and think of life from the eyes of our own, not from the other's. When we do something, we think that we can do it, so everyone can do it, and ignore the fact that not everyone can do what we can do. Some ways, we indirectly force the others to follow what we want them to. We push the pressure on them, and when they fail, we blame them. Under those pressures, their characteristic and personal changes. If some can overcome it, some cannot and that can lead to sins. When they commit it, mostly, they will say "I have no choice", or "I'm tired of being looked down", or dangerously, "I'm not the only one". On the other hand, when we succeed on something, we, psychologically, allow us to think that we are strong and deserve to be well-treated, and mostly, we allow ourselves to look down on others. That can lead to sins, too. And when we commit sins, we often say "I have the right", or "I can do what I want", or again "I'm not the only one". So at the end, it is no one than ourselves that create sins, and we always want to ignore it. My final word is we can share a lot of good and care-hearted sayings, but the cause and the feelings of the people who suffered inside them, we will never give a single care. And it is a sin, too.
Yeah. I felt really bad for Madarame. He was so well liked and respected. Even with the allegations, people ignored them and thought he was a pretty stand up guy. The moment his vanity left him, his underhanded ways gone from him, and I saw him go to tears, I figured that was punishment enough you know? Facing yourself is the hardest thing to do... but everyone just tore into him and called him a senile old fool. Even as an ordinary citizen who might not understand the whole cognizant world thing, I might have been a bit upset or angry with him, but I think I'd pity him more and learn to forgive him with time. Playing the game, in my mind I was wiping out their evil. Once it was gone, the person I was angry at didn't exist anymore you know?

But at the same time, while Maruki had a genuinely good goal, he ended up crossing so many moral lines to achieve his “perfect” reality with Sumire being the obvious example of what he was capable of. I do indeed consider Maruki still as a good friend, but when the time came for that fateful fight, I did feel like a villain a bit ripping Maruki’s dream from him, but as a certain blue hedgehog once said “Guess I can’t be the hero every time.”

**SPOILERS BELOW** Out of all the villains, I find Akechi the most understandable because he mirrors Joker in a way. He's the kind of person Joker *could've* become if he hadn't made his friends and confidants. In the beginning of Persona 5, literally no one was believing in him until he met Ryuji, Ann, and Morgana. Making connections with others saved him, which is made evident by how Akechi values his isolation. This is just a guess, but I think the reason Akechi isolates himself is because it's his source of hatred for Shido, and despite what anyone thinks, hate can be a kind of strength that can keep you alive in the most trying times. The reason that Akechi was so reluctant to accept Joker as a kindred spirit was because it would've meant losing that strength, and yet he wanted that friendship anyways. Think of how Zuko lost his firebending in AtLA after he joined Aang in Season 3; it's the same principle. It's one of the two reasons I've thought of why he tries to kill Joker. The other reason is that it's part of Akechi's plan, and why he's aiding Shido. It's not just because he's blindsiding Shido, but also because it's the ultimate revenge. He committed his crimes so that Shido could succeed, and then after his bastard father got everything he wanted, Akechi would then rip it all away and make sure Shido knew it. It explains why he'd aid and abet Shido instead of using his undeniable power to take the bastard down from the get-go. It's like how Richard Nixon did Watergate even though he could've won re-election anyways, wanting the perfect victory. And that encapsulates Akechi because he was working his whole life for it. But, revenge rarely leads to satisfaction- a wise man from Okinawa once said that revenge is like a forest. easy to get lost in. Akechi gets a lot of scorn for his actions in the game. His crimes are reprehensible, yes. but he didn't do those things because he was an outright evil person. The reasons are there, and they indicate that further interaction between him and Joker could lead to some real resolution. It's why I support the idea of redeeming him in Royal, because this, like it or not, is a character arc. The feelings and reasons are there, and they point towards a story yet untold. Persona 5 loves to throw around the word "unforgivable" a lot, but the thing is, you don't need forgiveness to redeem yourself, contrary to popular belief. You can bear the guilt of crime and still be a good person if you make yourself into one.
The most thought-provoking antagonists for me have always been the ones that are what the protagonist might’ve become if things had gone slightly differently. A dark mirror, so to speak.

Having played Royal now, I'm happy to see that, without spoiling much, that the relationship between Joker and Akechi has been more fleshed out, and the new events capitalize on that. He's a flawed, byronic anti-hero who still likes being edgy a bit too much, but he's also the outright MVP of the third semester.
there's more to Akechi and Joker's duality, not only the lack of connections Akechi had, but the control over his own ego, he was being played by Loki the whole time which this persona may have had a hand in Akechi's path of sticking to his isolated path after all Loki is a trickster god, one that shouldn't be entirely trusted, and in Royal awakening Akechi's true Persona is like him finally ditching that Toxic false friend, taking the the more Ideal and optimistic outlook that was Robin and fusing it with the deceptive and Pessimistic outlook that was Loki to make Hereward the true outlook of Akechi's life not perfectly Ideal, but not decepitive and pessimistic. and when Joker won against Akechi it meant something greater, Joker was more in control of his own Ego than Akechi was.
@@WednesdayMan I don't think so. Personas are the other selves of people made manifest according to Morgana in 5/Royal. Loki isn't controlling Akechi, in a way, Loki *is* Akechi, representing Akechi's desires to sow chaos. Robin Hood represented a false facade of heroism, while Loki represented his true psychotic personality revelling in ruthlessness and bloodlust. According to Morgana, Persona Users have absolute control over their desires, which makes it impossible for them to form Palaces. If Akechi were dominated and controlled by his feelings, he wouldn't have a Persona period. They would distort his heart and create a Palace. Thus, despite how warped and dark his heart is, we must conclude that Akechi has some form of control over his heart. Hereward is merely the final evolution of this, representing both an idea of real justice and the chaos he craves. In other words, Loki is not a villain controlling Akechi. Loki IS Akechi, representing one aspect of his "other self."
@@ethicalapemen3686 are you sure that isn't some trick Loki isn't pulling? gotta remember he's known for deception, and considering the character arc Akechi goes through, him getting his third and final persona makes his character arc a completed one, one where he's finally letting go of the past and finally looking at the world in a more honest manner Arsene even has his own Personality and talks directly to Joker at times, if Loki isn't controlling akechi then he's being that toxic friend pushing him into the wrong path by communicating to him.

Just for kicks since I hate Akechi: Akechi: You’re so lucky. Lucky to be surrounded by teammates who acknowledge you. And once Shido confesses his crimes, you’ll all be heroes. And you did that by joining forces with Shido. Akechi: (laughing weakly) In the end... I couldn’t be special.
Jin and Takaya from P3 were even worse than Akechi because they actually killed multiple of YOUR Comrades in SEES (Shinjiro, Junpei, and you would lose Ken if Shinjiro didn't take the hit). Akechi can't even kill a Phantom Thief assuming that you don't act stupid.
It didn't stop him from trying though. He outright (tries to) kill you in the interrogation room. If anything, he's much worse, seeing as how he (presumably) murdered dozens of people over the course of two years and, while he didn't kill any of your party members, he directly killed two of their parents. That being said, however, I still prefer Akechi for being at least somewhat sympathetic, at least compared to Strega's nihilism and despair-mongering.
I feel sorry for the newcomers who have simply searched "sad Kamoshida theme" or something like that and now have the whole game spoiled because they looked at the comments section. F

That is true, everyone faces pain, loss, suffering, hardship. But there are two kind of people when it comes to that. Those who give up immediately, without trying to make things right in their life. And then there are those who fight those things, and even if they end up struggling more and more to reach their goal, they keep fighting, wanting to change and to make things right in their life. The past can't be changed and neither can our mistakes, but the future and those that we make down the road can be changed, it just takes the smallest amount of courage to fight to reach that goal.
I must confess. The amazing high school life I could never had in real life, was in the game. I aced all the tests, maxed all stats, made friends, & was the ultimate chad. The sad thing is I was a unpopular introverted loser in High school. I’m still introverted. I want to make friends but it’s scary.

Everyone listening to this song seems to bring up their favorite sad moments in the palaces, and I think it's pretty interesting, particularly because this song makes me think of a particular character and her moments in the game rather than a highlighted moment from a palace alone. Futaba Sakura. When I hear this song, I think of Futaba's struggle as she fights her false image of her Mom, how she needed someone to blame and chose herself because she was made to believe it made more sense, how she'd do anything to clarify what happened or at least get to say goodbye. The ending of her palace is what made this song seem to connect to her more in my eyes, she had her final words with her Mother, achieved that wish she wanted to have for so long, filling in the hole in her heart that the adults had put on her. I guess I'm not much different in linking this with a palace in some way too, huh? X3

I tear up whenever i hear this song because this game quite literally changed my life. I had a friend who was the only person I knew who liked it and he was the nicest person. I knew him for a year and I don’t really know what happened to him. I hope he’s okay and I hope he’s happy. you’re amazing Isaiah.

Kamoshida may have been an Olympian, but even he couldn't run from his crimes. Madarame tried to paint over truth with lies, but his imperfections washed it all away. Kaneshiro desperately wanted it all, but got only what he deserved. Futaba believed in lies of her past, but only by denying them could she achieve a new future. Okumura threw away so much to achieve his ascension, only to fall like his very own sacrifices. Sae found the need to cheat the system to win, not knowing she had the power to do so without. Shido wanted to steer his own 'immortal' vision, only to sink with the ship that followed it. Yaldabaoth used the people to achieve false godhood, and with the world's defiance was he brought back down. Maruki wished only to let others escape from reality, but realised no-one could do so without facing pain. Poetry.

*3/5, 2009.* I... i admit. I am the most scared out of my friends... When... when they said i was gonna raid a tower full of Shadows, the only thing i could do... was hide how scared i was. I was alone all of my years... going from foster home, to foster home, making new families and stuff.... Hell, i may even have lost my true names, and i forgot... i dunno. Every time i said "i don't care" to a person, was because i wasn't strong enough to find a solution to them... i was weak... and a lot stupid. And after all that happened, stop a train from killing everyone, saving Fuuka, facing my fears and my heart, facing the past of the wars that happened and meting Strega for the first time, meeting Shinjiro and Ken, seeing Junpei finally have a girlfriend, seeing Shinjiro die, and Chidori as well... only to know that in some months, we all are gonna die... made me reflect. He truly and genuinely felt regret for his actions. That's why it's so easy to feel bad for all the villains in their confession. They AREN'T faking it. Their hearts really changed and now they feel unbearable guilt over their acts.

This game taught me how to properly take care of my friends. Maybe two hands are enough to count them. But atleast now I know just how to take care of them. I'll be by their sides no matter what. If they're happy or sad. It pays no mind. We will enjoy every moment to its fullest now. Together.

I must say, I was full of doubt about P5S. I thought it would be just another spinoff. The combat was cool and seeing the gang gathered again was very nice, but the moment I got to Alice’s Trauma Cell, I knew this game would be something special. Her story is just heartbreaking.
Ann promised that she would become friends with Alice. If Alice and Ann really became friends, then Alice might be able to recover, otherwise Alice might become a shut-in like Futaba for the rest of her life.

I love how they use the melody of the heroic part on blooming villians... is like the same thing in our Phantom Thieves that took them so low in live its the same one that gaves them the resolution to stand against the bosses they fight (their biggest fears/regrets)
I just realised while playing P5S, that this theme contains the boss theme that sounds when you fight the ruler of the palace but slower and more calmly I guess it makes sense since it's the ruler who is suffering a change of heart and regretting his sins

Pity Shido didn't have a psychotic breakdown, he cost Futaba her mother and caused PTSD - leading to her being a shut-in, not talking to anyone as she held herself to blame Kamoshida: Was hired by Kobayakawa, who was one of Shido's lesser subordinates Haru: Killed her father to turn the Phantom Thieves into criminals, in hope to use this to get himself more votes into office
what he did deserved more than imprisonment, it deserved the Death Penalty since he cost people their happiness and used his subordinates to attempt to eliminate any essence of rebellion against them (As evident from the fact that despite Shido confessing to false charges, they still held that against Ren to get him locked up)

I think I *REALLY* started to like Ann later on in the game when she was able to talk about Kamoshida with everyone. Sure, she earned my respect when Kamoshida was going to kill himself and she told him that Shiho was still alive and told him not to run away from it.

You could tell how bad the academy was, having a PE teacher who abuses his students and forces himself onto the girls there. A decent government would've sacked or jailed Kobayakawa for hiring a teacher like that

Why else you think he was covering up for kamoshida's crimes at the school? Even the teachers and PARENTS knew about how kamoshida abuses his students. Stated by mishima himself. You're naive and foolish to think the government haven't had a handling on the matter as well. The order for the mc's execution without even seeing the body is proof enough how corrupt the Japanese system is. Get swept under the rug like nothing happened just like at shujin academy.

@@Evil_Beauty She actually didn't. Ann went straight home after talking with Joker. That's why Kamoshida got so irritated that he wound up causing Shiho's suicide attempt. Had Joker not shown up to help her when he did, Ann may well have actually given in to Kamoshida there. The fact that Joker, a total stranger up until then, was still concerned enough to want to help her is what gave Ann the guts to not give in to Kamoshida.

Persona 5 has got to be the most well written and best persona game. Characters we’ve never seen before and the most emotional scenes. The game puts you on a feel train and it’s amazing. And how heartbreaking it is that even on the true ending you’re crimes are still unforgivable.
I agree completely, however out of everything this game has done right I was the most impressed about their implementation of mainline smt mechanics.
It felt like a persona game that could appeal to both sides and quench some of the persona v smt arguments.
I also agree this may be the best game I ever played

I always felt that with P4 when I was younger. I connected to the characters so much, I always wanted to be a part of their lives. To this day I'll still say it's my favorite game. P5R came out recently and reminded me how much I love this series. Such beautiful games, glad I grew up with them.

"Hey there, Shujin Academy students. It's a beautiful day out, isn't it? It must be a real shame to be cooped up inside. Some of you may be wondering what I'm doing back here, since my time at Shujin ended several months ago. No, haha, I can't give you any financial advice now...or any advice at all, as I'm not worthy to do so. I will not be returning, and I ask that you disregard everything I have told you during counseling sessions with me. I was not in my right mind, and I acted in a manner unbefitting of a counselor.
I sought out particular students for...preferential treatment. I would bribe them and gain their trust with gifts of food. I ingratiated myself into their personal lives- treating them as friends and confidants rather than professional clients as I should have- and used the information I'd gathered from our sessions to...to manipulate them into doing what I believed was best for them. I encouraged them to do things that any competent therapist would have immediately seen as unhealthy. I even followed them to school and...and to their homes, to keep tabs on them.
I also utilized one particular student's brilliant mind for the sake of my career. I became far closer with him than I should have, and abused my authority to do so, hoping he would help me with my research- I even blackmailed him using confidential information so he would keep helping me. In doing so, I have ignored his own traumatic experiences. My actions toward him may take years more of therapy for him to recover from, but with any luck, he will find a better therapist than me to help him.
I wasn't doing what a counselor should do. I wasn't helping you grow and overcome your trauma, but instead making you satisfied with never striving for a better self, a better world. I believed that because I couldn't move on from my own issues, no one else could either- I was so blinded by my own sorrow that I couldn't see the error of my ways, and that you are all so much stronger than this pathetic man you see before you. I have failed the students I was meant to help, and led you all astray! Please, please forgive me!"

Regarding the composition, I love the little glitchy destruction sounds in the background. They fit well with the palace owner's "world of desires" slowly crumbling apart.
Always loved this when the villains lost and confessed to their insecurities.
But what about Akechi? Since he has powers, he can’t have a change of heart, making him irredeemable.

Futaba, Akechi and Sae were all able to change themselves. For Futaba, it was because she wanted to avenge her mother, knowing that the suicide note was forged - For Sae, she realized that she was pursuing the wrong type of justice and Akechi was able to rely on the Phantom Thieves as they had a mutual enemy, so they would be able to avenge him and change Shido's heart to fix society
Even though their crimes were unforgiven, but still.. it can't be help but to feel sad for them. I wonder how would it be to live with that.. unbearable feeling of guilt, kinda sad, but wouldn't it stop people from committing them in the first place? what poor creatures we are.. we hate easily, jealousy and greedy.. committing sins is only part of our nature
It's hard to say but it really depends on many things, not just our nature. My opinion is it's the society and the enviroment around us defines what and who we are. But honestly, I think we always look and think of life from the eyes of our own, not from the other's. When we do something, we think that we can do it, so everyone can do it, and ignore the fact that not everyone can do what we can do. Some ways, we indirectly force the others to follow what we want them to. We push the pressure on them, and when they fail, we blame them. Under those pressures, their characteristic and personal changes. If some can overcome it, some cannot and that can lead to sins. When they commit it, mostly, they will say "I have no choice", or "I'm tired of being looked down", or dangerously, "I'm not the only one". On the other hand, when we succeed on something, we, psychologically, allow us to think that we are strong and deserve to be well-treated, and mostly, we allow ourselves to look down on others. That can lead to sins, too. And when we commit sins, we often say "I have the right", or "I can do what I want", or again "I'm not the only one". So at the end, it is no one than ourselves that create sins, and we always want to ignore it.
My final word is we can share a lot of good and care-hearted sayings, but the cause and the feelings of the people who suffered inside them, we will never give a single care. And it is a sin, too.
I was almost moved to tears at kamoshida's confession
Yeah. I felt really bad for Madarame. He was so well liked and respected. Even with the allegations, people ignored them and thought he was a pretty stand up guy. The moment his vanity left him, his underhanded ways gone from him, and I saw him go to tears, I figured that was punishment enough you know? Facing yourself is the hardest thing to do... but everyone just tore into him and called him a senile old fool. Even as an ordinary citizen who might not understand the whole cognizant world thing, I might have been a bit upset or angry with him, but I think I'd pity him more and learn to forgive him with time.
Playing the game, in my mind I was wiping out their evil. Once it was gone, the person I was angry at didn't exist anymore you know?
Remember they would not change unless you force it by stealing there hearts so don't feel bad for those who have no guilt for what they done

You really do almost feel like the villain when you deal with Maruki. He’s such a sympathetic character and has a reasonable perspective.
But at the same time, while Maruki had a genuinely good goal, he ended up crossing so many moral lines to achieve his “perfect” reality with Sumire being the obvious example of what he was capable of. I do indeed consider Maruki still as a good friend, but when the time came for that fateful fight, I did feel like a villain a bit ripping Maruki’s dream from him, but as a certain blue hedgehog once said “Guess I can’t be the hero every time.”

**SPOILERS BELOW**
Out of all the villains, I find Akechi the most understandable because he mirrors Joker in a way. He's the kind of person Joker *could've* become if he hadn't made his friends and confidants. In the beginning of Persona 5, literally no one was believing in him until he met Ryuji, Ann, and Morgana. Making connections with others saved him, which is made evident by how Akechi values his isolation. This is just a guess, but I think the reason Akechi isolates himself is because it's his source of hatred for Shido, and despite what anyone thinks, hate can be a kind of strength that can keep you alive in the most trying times. The reason that Akechi was so reluctant to accept Joker as a kindred spirit was because it would've meant losing that strength, and yet he wanted that friendship anyways. Think of how Zuko lost his firebending in AtLA after he joined Aang in Season 3; it's the same principle. It's one of the two reasons I've thought of why he tries to kill Joker.
The other reason is that it's part of Akechi's plan, and why he's aiding Shido. It's not just because he's blindsiding Shido, but also because it's the ultimate revenge. He committed his crimes so that Shido could succeed, and then after his bastard father got everything he wanted, Akechi would then rip it all away and make sure Shido knew it. It explains why he'd aid and abet Shido instead of using his undeniable power to take the bastard down from the get-go. It's like how Richard Nixon did Watergate even though he could've won re-election anyways, wanting the perfect victory. And that encapsulates Akechi because he was working his whole life for it. But, revenge rarely leads to satisfaction- a wise man from Okinawa once said that revenge is like a forest. easy to get lost in. Akechi gets a lot of scorn for his actions in the game. His crimes are reprehensible, yes. but he didn't do those things because he was an outright evil person. The reasons are there, and they indicate that further interaction between him and Joker could lead to some real resolution.
It's why I support the idea of redeeming him in Royal, because this, like it or not, is a character arc. The feelings and reasons are there, and they point towards a story yet untold. Persona 5 loves to throw around the word "unforgivable" a lot, but the thing is, you don't need forgiveness to redeem yourself, contrary to popular belief. You can bear the guilt of crime and still be a good person if you make yourself into one.
The most thought-provoking antagonists for me have always been the ones that are what the protagonist might’ve become if things had gone slightly differently. A dark mirror, so to speak.

Having played Royal now, I'm happy to see that, without spoiling much, that the relationship between Joker and Akechi has been more fleshed out, and the new events capitalize on that. He's a flawed, byronic anti-hero who still likes being edgy a bit too much, but he's also the outright MVP of the third semester.
there's more to Akechi and Joker's duality, not only the lack of connections Akechi had, but the control over his own ego, he was being played by Loki the whole time which this persona may have had a hand in Akechi's path of sticking to his isolated path after all Loki is a trickster god, one that shouldn't be entirely trusted, and in Royal awakening Akechi's true Persona is like him finally ditching that Toxic false friend, taking the the more Ideal and optimistic outlook that was Robin and fusing it with the deceptive and Pessimistic outlook that was Loki to make Hereward the true outlook of Akechi's life not perfectly Ideal, but not decepitive and pessimistic.
and when Joker won against Akechi it meant something greater, Joker was more in control of his own Ego than Akechi was.

Loki isn't controlling Akechi, in a way, Loki *is* Akechi, representing Akechi's desires to sow chaos. Robin Hood represented a false facade of heroism, while Loki represented his true psychotic personality revelling in ruthlessness and bloodlust. According to Morgana, Persona Users have absolute control over their desires, which makes it impossible for them to form Palaces. If Akechi were dominated and controlled by his feelings, he wouldn't have a Persona period. They would distort his heart and create a Palace. Thus, despite how warped and dark his heart is, we must conclude that Akechi has some form of control over his heart. Hereward is merely the final evolution of this, representing both an idea of real justice and the chaos he craves.
In other words, Loki is not a villain controlling Akechi. Loki IS Akechi, representing one aspect of his "other self."

Also, Akechi deserved worse because Persona users with evil hearts like him are irredeemable.
Jin and Takaya from P3 were even worse than Akechi because they actually killed multiple of YOUR Comrades in SEES (Shinjiro, Junpei, and you would lose Ken if Shinjiro didn't take the hit). Akechi can't even kill a Phantom Thief assuming that you don't act stupid.
It didn't stop him from trying though. He outright (tries to) kill you in the interrogation room. If anything, he's much worse, seeing as how he (presumably) murdered dozens of people over the course of two years and, while he didn't kill any of your party members, he directly killed two of their parents. That being said, however, I still prefer Akechi for being at least somewhat sympathetic, at least compared to Strega's nihilism and despair-mongering.
I feel sorry for the newcomers who have simply searched "sad Kamoshida theme" or something like that and now have the whole game spoiled because they looked at the comments section.

And then there are those who fight those things, and even if they end up struggling more and more to reach their goal, they keep fighting, wanting to change and to make things right in their life. The past can't be changed and neither can our mistakes, but the future and those that we make down the road can be changed, it just takes the smallest amount of courage to fight to reach that goal.
I must confess. The amazing high school life I could never had in real life, was in the game. I aced all the tests, maxed all stats, made friends, & was the ultimate chad.

Everyone listening to this song seems to bring up their favorite sad moments in the palaces, and I think it's pretty interesting, particularly because this song makes me think of a particular character and her moments in the game rather than a highlighted moment from a palace alone.
Futaba Sakura.
When I hear this song, I think of Futaba's struggle as she fights her false image of her Mom, how she needed someone to blame and chose herself because she was made to believe it made more sense, how she'd do anything to clarify what happened or at least get to say goodbye. The ending of her palace is what made this song seem to connect to her more in my eyes, she had her final words with her Mother, achieved that wish she wanted to have for so long, filling in the hole in her heart that the adults had put on her.

About everyone, about everything. In 1/1, the thought of killing Ryoji appeared on my mind various times... but, i thought "What would happen to everyone?" All of my Social Links, all of my friends, and you guys, my family. All of them would probably not happen because of the Dark Hour bever existing...
Then, i thought about facing Nyx, and do the impossible...
Needless to say, that was the best decision of my life...

@@nokina3 While it is true that Kamoshida would have never confessed were it not for the Phantom Thieves, that doesn't make it less real that once they stole his heart he changed. He truly and genuinely felt regret for his actions. That's why it's so easy to feel bad for all the villains in their confession. They AREN'T faking it. Their hearts really changed and now they feel unbearable guilt over their acts.

I must say, I was full of doubt about P5S. I thought it would be just another spinoff. The combat was cool and seeing the gang gathered again was very nice, but the moment I got to Alice’s Trauma Cell, I knew this game would be something special.
Her story is just heartbreaking.

I love how they use the melody of the heroic part on blooming villians... is like the same thing in our Phantom Thieves that took them so low in live its the same one that gaves them the resolution to stand against the bosses they fight (their biggest fears/regrets)

Blooming Villian is one of my favorite motifs in the franchise
I just realised while playing P5S, that this theme contains the boss theme that sounds when you fight the ruler of the palace but slower and more calmly
I guess it makes sense since it's the ruler who is suffering a change of heart and regretting his sins

Pity Shido didn't have a psychotic breakdown, he cost Futaba her mother and caused PTSD - leading to her being a shut-in, not talking to anyone as she held herself to blame

Haru: Killed her father to turn the Phantom Thieves into criminals, in hope to use this to get himself more votes into office
what he did deserved more than imprisonment, it deserved the Death Penalty since he cost people their happiness and used his subordinates to attempt to eliminate any essence of rebellion against them (As evident from the fact that despite Shido confessing to false charges, they still held that against Ren to get him locked up)

@William Fuma - Futaba was wrath, the reason why they sent the "Sloth" calling card is because she was letting the other people walk over her and this made her unable to control her emotions. Mementos was Sloth, as people were in there to avoid the real world and having to think about things - here, they had the Holy Grail giving them guidance
