Because Ghostface went on the mic at the Summer Jam concert and said fuck Hot97 out of frustration. They were invited to Hot97 Summer Jam while they were touring Europe overseas with Rage Against The Machine. Hot97 wouldn't pay for their plane tickets and they initially refused to do the show. They were convinced to go back and do the show but Ghost wasn't happy on the circumstances so he said what he said. He also said fuck Angie Martinez as well as a few others in the process
The reason why raekwon is asking for so much money is because he probably doesn't have any. But when you don't have money, you can't afford to pass up on opportunities to make it by being greedy ...
Anthony Brian Logan it’s not about money, Raekwon wants to take the Wu in a new direction becuase he feels the old Wu won’t make any money in today’s era!!
Or he’s asking for it because he deserves it. He was big. And deserves his cut. Y’all always wanna bash people. Don’t come if you’re going to belittle and spread lies. He supposed to be getting paid for life. Not for a release and then no more
Listening to RZA it's clear that a lot of these guys come off the streets and few of them learn to be business savvy. No matter how long you've been in the game you've got to learn your business. That's why a lot of these rappers get jerked by the industry.
Happy to see an elder statesman drop wisdom and express control in explaining his position. He's not up there with his chest all out talking about what he's gonna do to another brother and what not. Hip hop has grown up even though some of its members haven't. Respect to RZA, Raekwon and the whole team.
yo dope interview! People really dont understand how deep the dynamics are to artist gettin hot nd successful! Rza is a smart dude nd he hit the nail on the head! look at the most popular artists of wu tang! they are the ones that got to drop there solos projects 1st it wasnt cuz they had hotter material!
Please- no kanye beats on a wu album. Or swizz beats, & def not khaled. Not this album. That's just backwards ass thinking. Keep it in-house. Keep it Wu.
Don John Masta Killa is dope though. I love all 3 of his albums. Listen to his debut and 2nd album in particular. Songs like "Street Corner" are truly incredible.
I understood what RZA was saying about everyone coming together like a family but they are creating a product to be sold. Family or not I'd want to profit off of something I have helped create. The record label is going to make money, the stores selling it will make money, the radio stations that play it will make money, the studio engineers will make money, and all of those entities are going to require contracts that spell out exactly what the terms are before they become involved or put it up for sale. Shouldn't Raekwon, Cappa, and Ghost be treated with the same respect? I'd be willing to bet that they'd forgo any kind of advance as long as they get points on the project. That would be fair because if the project doesn't make money, they wouldn't make any. But if it's a huge success, they get to share in the success of the project. Business is business. Them wanting to be paid for their work shouldn't make people question their loyalty. To me that just sounds ridiculous. I can't count the number of artist who record a hook or a verse on a song for a friend without any agreements about royalties. Then the song becomes a huge hit and they get ZERO from it. Lil Mo didn't get a dime from all the hooks she sang and wrote for Ja Rule. Those were #1 Billboard platinum plus singles getting heavy rotation on the radio and she got ABSOLUTELY NOTHING from it. That's not right, and neither is RZA for making a business dispute about family or loyalty. That being said, I love Wu, I think RZA is a freaking musical genius, I don't want to hear Kayne anywhere on a Wu album, and I hope they can work things out because hip hop needs them bad right now. I'm a southerner and I LOVE southern hip hop, but I miss that NY sound. Wu is the perfect group to bring that sound back... so please work it out guys. #SociallyUrban
Kanye's rapped with Ghostface, Raekwons been on a Kanye Album, and RZA helped Kanye produce one of his Albums. Why wouldn't he be welcome on a Wu-Tang Album?
txherezy Kanye is amazing at what he does and I love his music but Wu's music sounds nothing like anything Kanye has done. We see and hear Kanye everywhere on everything. I want 100% Wu on a Wu album. That's just my personal preference. The second Kanye appears on a Wu album it's no longer underground.
Wu-Tang is worldwide hardly underground. Definitely not "mainstream" but not underground. With the way that Raekwon has been talking about it, if you're going to have a Wu album with tracks made by non Wu affiliates it wouldn't make sense to exclude Kanye whom many of them already have a rapport with.
txherezy "Underground" isn't defined by record sales or recognizability of an artist or group around the world. To me underground would definitely apply to Wu. Although they are well known, their music was never big on radio or played on MTV. They never headlined arena tours although they did draw larger crowds outside of the US. I do agree with what you said about Kanye. If they are going to have non Wu artist on the new album, then I'd have no problem with Kanye being involved. But I'm still holding on to hope that it's going to be 100% Wu and no one else. Maybe they could do a remix album with a bunch of other big name hot at the moment artist. I could live with that I guess. lol
Without even thinking I already remember songs like Ice Cream, C.R.E.A.M. and Triumph being beaten to death on MTV, as well as classics like Bring the Pain. Features like the Fantasy remix with Mariah and You're All I Need were also major records considering the time. Not even the biggest artists today get radio spins like those songs got back then.
real good interview.... really breaks down the reasons why things can and can not get done once money is the driving point. when ppl are broke and starting out, its so easy to allow that passion to drive you, causing you to be up for days writing and in the booth for hours. But once the money comes in, that same "brotherhood" that you had in the past keeps lost and the media blows it up to be "beef"... damn shame.
Ethan Flynn Agree! His technic and content are sharp as swords, on the other hand Meth has sickest style and endless flow but you can´t compare because each are unique expression of the same energy
Meth was obviously going to go big as he was so charismatic and people buy into that shit. RZA couldn't fail to be creative, I see his name on a lot of things, GZA can come up with great lyrics, sadly it doesn't sell for shit now a days, he needs to be backed up by some 20 year old producer and trap his way back up to modern day music, I think he's too proud for that shit though.
Ethan Flynn Its about who's the most marketable. GZA might be better lyrically but he gets boring to listen to after a while. I would rate Ghost as the most marketable IMO but he can be too hood and thus too intimidating to the white folks. That's why they love meth, he's funny, named after their favorite drug and easy to work with. Ghost gets my vote as the one who can sell more records if he wants to.
Wow I absolutely love the RzA. He brings so much. Really I feel Deck is the most underrated. He is just as dope as meth, Ghost, or Rae just doesn't have the strongest catalog but with Czarface last year Deck murdered that shit in 2013 you hear me! Also don't sleep on Rza as an MC. He goes in , He killed it on Wu Gambino and had the best verse imo. Gonna be an interesting year for Wu also cuz there are said to be releases for meth, ghost, rae, deck individually. I hope Gza finally drops something too

Rza - Wu Gambinos
I agree... very EPIC interview... I loved it! A child of the late 80’s and all of the 90’s hip hop era...no other generation of hip hop can come close to its greatness! Rza... when you are intelligent no interviewer’s question can phase you while correcting them on their misinformed knowledge of the WU!
RZA is too gifted for other things on top of it. An untouchable producer, I can only imagine the possibilities if things turned out differently. We can only be thankful for what we got
hands down one of the best interviews in hiphop history! i'm not the biggest WUTANG fan... although the fundamentals (36chambers+debut solo albums + GZA first solo *haha!*) never leaves my stride.... i always pay attention when KRS or Questlove speak... but man oh man!... Genuine Respect goes out to RZA!. Even if 70% of what he is revealing is actual fact... then Peace+Love to him and his entire family (kinfolk). Pete Rock has always been my #1 favourite... but RZA just knocked Preemo of my #2! ... And Peace to you, you and You! from Sydney Australia.
I love WU.I grew up with their music..I remember and i can sing every single track on 36 chambers rhyme by rhyme...real ppl know what im talking about ..got most of their solo albums and been a fan more than 20 years now....but there is something that my mind still cannot accept and was really sad and disappointed when i was watching the short movie "ODB on Parole" (r.i.p.Dirt Mcgirt)...and when he was saying with tears in his eyes that nobody from the Clan has visit him even once for 2.5 years in the jail...Besides few phone calls from Meth and of course the non-stop support from his Mum (God Bless This Brave Woman),who also with bitterness in her mouth and visibly upset by the fact that his closest people, his Brothers, The Clan ....just seemed to have forgotten and written off his friend, who needed a great many of them in the heaviest and most dark period of his life. I will always listen to the Wu,cause once my ears are used with the quality music, they simply cannot change "the caliber",but I would always judge them because of this story....but that's it...never mix the professional with the private....also the function with the personality.

Friend of show not Station 🤦🏿♂️
15.40 for rae part
thanks man
lol I needed that
Props Mr. Simmons.
hippa2dahoppa2 Real Nigga.
thank you
The reason why raekwon is asking for so much money is because he probably doesn't have any. But when you don't have money, you can't afford to pass up on opportunities to make it by being greedy ...
Anthony Brian Logan it’s not about money, Raekwon wants to take the Wu in a new direction becuase he feels the old Wu won’t make any money in today’s era!!
yes sir every solo project was dope because they had all the other members involved
Or he’s asking for it because he deserves it. He was big. And deserves his cut. Y’all always wanna bash people. Don’t come if you’re going to belittle and spread lies. He supposed to be getting paid for life. Not for a release and then no more
@@MrJayd718 If true he could do it for himself
@@xxxten17glo12 He received his cut.
I give RZA respect 4 his business savvy and his genius love
Speaking of Nas celebrating illmatic! .. Mobb Deep just dropped a new double disc album celebrating 20 years too!
Nice
Garbage
Rest in peace Prodigy
1993 -1995 was such a dope time for hip-hop.
Brian Ramnath definitely classics week in week out but at the time it was the norm all the way up to the end of 96 then puff mase type rap took over 😞
i dig this interview. rza seems to be up front and honest
Listening to RZA it's clear that a lot of these guys come off the streets and few of them learn to be business savvy. No matter how long you've been in the game you've got to learn your business. That's why a lot of these rappers get jerked by the industry.
these dudes aint interviewed a guy like RZA before his intelligence level is beyond their questions and thought. True ABBOT
GZA liquid swords is the best WU album ever , possibly best album ever.
All the first albums were great
Paulie Walnuts am finna get that thunn good lookin yo
Raekwon Cuban links
Paulie Walnuts purple tape bruh
Heavy Mental easily
Pure Genius level & Good dude, he strengthens everyone around him.
"When you form a Voltron, you need every piece" - The Abbot
Happy to see an elder statesman drop wisdom and express control in explaining his position. He's not up there with his chest all out talking about what he's gonna do to another brother and what not. Hip hop has grown up even though some of its members haven't. Respect to RZA, Raekwon and the whole team.
Rza's one of the all time great player/coaches in hip hop....
Wu-Tang Forever!
RZA is monumental like reading is fundamental.
Much respect due.
Excellent interview. That's for letting me peak in on this one. #DOPE
yo dope interview! People really dont understand how deep the dynamics are to artist gettin hot nd successful! Rza is a smart dude nd he hit the nail on the head! look at the most popular artists of wu tang! they are the ones that got to drop there solos projects 1st it wasnt cuz they had hotter material!
Inspiring interview - like the way Riza schooled Rosenberg by waving his finger at him a couple of times! (not now student!) - big up
Same
Inspecta Deck is my all time fav in the WU!!!
dacrookedi Deck good with me too! But I rock with the "GZA"! ☝
None of the members have anything on my nigga Deck!
Yeah the Rebel INS was dope!!
My fav also
I live in S.C. the Wu minus Rza did a concert..I got a chance to meet Inspector Deck and U God... pretty humble dudes
Please- no kanye beats on a wu album. Or swizz beats, & def not khaled. Not this album.
That's just backwards ass thinking.
Keep it in-house. Keep it Wu.
Of all the producers you mentioned, I think Kanye could make a Wu beat!!
DJ Khalil
I absolutely love the RZA! Pure genius!!!
I think it would be funny if the W on his hat stood for "WZA" the way he would pronounce RZA Lol
The wazor!
Wow finally a great interview by Hot 97
GZA & RZA are my favorite rappers of all time!
Don John Masta Killa is dope though. I love all 3 of his albums. Listen to his debut and 2nd album in particular. Songs like "Street Corner" are truly incredible.
Don John That's fine. Masta Killa will always be cool to me though.
+Ocean Sage what about Cappa his style is awesome.
Roman T Cappadonna is cool. He's got a lot of great featured verses that hold up.
RESPECT AN LOVE TO THE OG RZA!!
Great interview. Much respect to all involved.
Equivalent exchange. I like what RZA is saying and his business perspective.
ONE of the best interveiws ever!!! so insightful.
great interview, RZA THE BEST
Ive always wanted Rza 2 record my first album cuz he brings da fire
WOW!
THIS WAS VERY INFORMATIVE
Damm!!!!! This interview is mind opening on so many levels my favorite all time
This album should be only FAM members only.
BAAAAAAM
GREAT interview!
-Paint The Sky,Blew!!!
RZA dropping some real truth
real good interview.... really breaks down the reasons why things can and can not get done once money is the driving point. when ppl are broke and starting out, its so easy to allow that passion to drive you, causing you to be up for days writing and in the booth for hours. But once the money comes in, that same "brotherhood" that you had in the past keeps lost and the media blows it up to be "beef"... damn shame.
I would put the GZA way over Meth. I think GZA might be the best MC in Wu Tang.
GZA is without question the best MC in Wu-Tang
Ghost gets my vote as the one who can sell more records if he wants to.
gusto4106 I'm white and Ghost is my favorite mc of all time but I do see where you're coming from.
RZA is my favorite mc from WU. He'd go deep every time I used to study him 🙏🏽
Inspecta Deck deserves his dues. Pay him what he's worth. He was one of the niceist of mcees.
What a great interview. Hot 97, keep up the good work!!!

RZA is so great to listen to, well spoken, great story teller and very wise.
edit: he is dropping so much knowledge rn...this is gold.
only producers outside of Rza, True Master, 4th Disciple & Mathematics I wouldn't mind hearing the Wu rapping 2 their beats R DJ Premier & Pete Rock
I agree... very EPIC interview... I loved it! A child of the late 80’s and all of the 90’s hip hop era...no other generation of hip hop can come close to its greatness! Rza... when you are intelligent no interviewer’s question can phase you while correcting them on their misinformed knowledge of the WU!
what you're looking at right here is enlightenment, street style. That's my DUDE (deep bow)
so much knowledge from Rza
When I buy a WU album, I want to hear lyrics over RZA beats. Not Kanye if anyone else.
i wanna hear the old ninja movie sampling again. i think thats what made wu the wu. without that its really not as good as it use to be
they're not ninja movies they're kung fu movies; from china, ninjas are from japan! AND NOW YOU KNOW!

Sorry you're wrong, Liquid swords has samples from The movie Shogun assassin which is a Japanese samurai movie 👍
Peace to the God Prince Rakeem...good build to open up the convo!
15:40 Raekwon discussion
Corny
What are you even talking about with your 70% ?
