There was an imam at my mosque who has a very deep voice and focused on tajweed as the main part of his recitation and even the shortest surahs sound beautiful
I thought I had a bad voice but really it was the "register" I was trying to imitate it didn't suit my voice so imitation only works if you know what level/tone is best for you. May Allah make it easy for us

inhale through your nose instead of your mouth. Inhaling through your mouth will dry out your throat and the intake of air isn't as deep. There are also different breathing exercises e.g blowing into a balloon.
Just make it easier for you. Make full use of stopping signs, stop wherever it is allowed. Most of the ayahs of quran are short and the long ones have many stop signs (you can find videos related to stopping signs on his channel), and for the verses which are long without stop signs, you can stop at a SUITABLE place and then resume. I recommend you use this brother's Tajweed book, specially the 2nd chapter. It will be easy for you inshallah.
After you learned how to inhale, try to controll how much breath goes out from the beginning to the end, many of use lose alot of breath at the start of a long aya and end up weak at the end of it, or dont reach the end at all, which may cause you to stop in an unsuitable place of the aya. Also after you learned how to inhale, it makes a lot difference which pitch height you choose. You will find that the lower you go the longer you keep your breath but the more and more you'll lose power. The higher you go, your voice gets thinner and you will go out of breath quick. Start from the tone of your natural speaking voice. Go up and down from there and see at which tone you have the best balance between power and breath preservation.

I can confirm that I've been subconsciously or unknowingly following the steps from this video, I listened to sheikh Omar Hisham Al Arabi recite Surah Qalam for a long long time as it was my favourite surah to listen and recite along. After learning Tajweed with my teacher, he asked me to memorize Al Qalam and it was very easy for me since I had memorized the tone of the sheikh's recitation and I could memorize the surah easily years later and copy the tone quite closely as well, but the sheikh's style caused me to improperly recite the tajweed as I focused more on the tone than the pronunciation. So in the end after memorizing it with the help of the sheikh's tone that i remembered, I adapted that tone to my own voice so I could pronounce Tajweed properly and so now The surahs I've heard in Mishary's voice and Omar Hisham's voice , I can copy the tone but need to adapt it in my own voice so I dont mispronounce words, all in all the steps in this video are exactly what I've been unknowingly doing and they do work. My tajweed instructor tried me to recite beautifully while learning tajweed but I'd often focus on either the tone and recite the wrong madd or ikhfaa, or I'd focus on the pronunciation and forget the tone, so what worked for me is to first learn the surah by heart and then listen to a Sheikh I can follow then adapt my already memorized surah to that style. Also for me I felt my recitation is not very beautiful but my Teacher always appreciates my voice and likes it, so for those learning, try and get a 3rd person's opinion and you will find out your recitation is not as bad as you think it is, all it takes is practice. My Tajweed instructor also says that recite as loudly as you can whenever you practice, that will help open the vocal cords for a more beautiful Recitation. JazakAllah Khayr for the beneficial video.

Beautiful much needed video Allahoumabarek. I also have some tips for whoever reads this: - To start off, stay close to your normal speaking tone. It's comes and sounds natural. - If you go too high your voice goes narrower and you will need more breath during an Aya. - Also do not go too low, the upside is that you will preserve breath for longer Ayaat, but you will lose alot of power. - When you choose a reciter, also try to choose one of his used styles or maqam, that suites you best (like proposed in the video, record yourself and listen, if you have somewhat of an ear for it, you will hear what sounds most natural and attractive) - dont overdo, and practice softly before you up the volume - dont start strong and end weak, try to spread your capacity evenly over the whole Aya, that means you have to try to controll how much air comes out during the aya. - some of us are tonedeaf, i know, but still you have to try your best - as for what in the west is called "vibrato" and "adlibs", stay away from these untill you got the style correctly - dont try to be a copy, find your own style in the end that suites your best, no one can sounds exactly like another.

I didn't expect this level of Islamic content from an English youtube page. This is just next level content. جزاكم الله خير. My experience with this subject just confirms what you have explained in this video. I always felt that my voice was "very bad and noisy" but with controlling breathing and listening to recitation "even without me noticing it" and of course trying hard to improve my tajwed I noticed a huge difference and noticed people comming to me to tell me that my voice is very calm and nice. But I'm sure I don't have strong or even special voice. Mey Allah make our recitation of the Quran for his sake only and give us the power to teach it to our kids and omma and follow its guidance.

Thank you for teaching us brother, may Allah grant you ease in the dunya and akhirah. p.s. I’m enjoying your tajwid series, it’s helping me a lot!
I have personally been listening to a lot of Qari Ibrahim Idris. His recitations are my favourite, Allahumma Barik, and I find myself often trying to imitate his style. Although I don't have the exact same vocal capabilities as the brother, I found this video to be reassuring when it says that our goal is to match the style, not necessarily the vocal techniques. That's what I have found myself to be doing Alhamdulillah. When I know I can't imitate a certain part identically, I focus on improvising my own way where it still has the same flow, thought it isn't the same technique used. May Allah reward you for your efforts.
May Allah bless you. This topic is been my struggle. our halaqah ustadha always said this to me. I had been confuse as to what reciter should I imitate. Shukran to this channel.

Alhamdullilah. I,ve learned a lot from you. In fact I didn't attend madras but you have became my alternative Sheikh. May Allah bless you and reward you Jannah!
I have been looking to beautify my voice. Thank you so much for this video. May Allah reward you a lot.
Yes please share techniques from improving breath and keeping calm when leading Salah.
So interesting and useful suggestions, explained with precision and excellent teaching skills.
Jazakum Allah khairan
Saa'd Al Gamdhi is best! He is very straigth and matches my tone beautifully. Love his recitation.
It seems like Allah listened to me and made me discover this video for learning beautiful recitation. Being asthmatic my voice is very bad and I am short of breath. Surely this video and a video about countering breath problem will be of great help. Jazakallahu khairan brother for this wonderful video.
I personally listen to Sheikh AbdurRahman al'usi. The way he recited is very simple yet beautiful!

Me too
when you're actually struggling inside, saying to yourself how bad your voice is and then get to come across this video just as WHEN you need it, and HOW you need it to be explained for you, Ma Shaa Allah, literally 0% coincidence.
The recitation he played in the video was the first thing that came to my mind when I saw the Ayah
Can you send me the link?
The best youtube channel of learning the Qur'an mashaAllah. You solved my problem in one video.
May Allah reward you of many sawab for this.
My favorite reciter is shaikh Abu Bakr Al Shatri.
didnt know about these tips but alhamdulillah allah gifted me the ability to imitate easily
I 100% recommend Sh Muhammad Ayoub as well, he has a variety of styles, some get quite sophisticated but his most basic style is quite easy for anyone to pick up in my opinion. Then once you've mastered the basic type you can go on to his more complicated styles.
Thank you so much for this video brother! I have wanted to properly beautify my voice during my recitation but didn’t know where to start, and Alhamdulillah, Allah Subhanahu wa Ta’ala blessed me with this video in perfect timing.
Thank you for teaching us brother, may Allah grant you ease in the dunya and akhirah.
p.s. I’m enjoying your tajwid series, it’s helping me a lot!
جزاك الله خيرا اخي
May Allah make these videos these hard work heavy on your scale of good deeds Ameen
In sha Allah, i will choose sheikh abdullah humeid
May Allah reward you for this.
May Allah bless you. This topic is been my struggle. our halaqah ustadha always said this to me. I had been confuse as to what reciter should I imitate. Shukran to this channel.
