I absolutely love it when you do Australian parks. Sure it's cool to see rides from more famous parks, but there really is something special about someone talking about the rides you grew up with.
Superman the escape was being built first it was only delayed for a year but still tested as the first 100 mph coaster…tower of terror was only the fastest and tallest for only a few months
Just wanted to say I appreciate how recently, you've done your videos in kind of a "series" where every few videos seem to be related about a specific topic. Keep up the good work!
Thank you for making this video and not focusing on the accident. As someone who grew up with and who loves Dreamworld, I loved this video. I think we should all take a minute to appreciate how hard they pushed this ride on its final day of operation. I've never before seen so many launches in such quick sucesion. Not a single breakdown on that day. She just ran and ran. Almost as if she knew. So sad to see the track removed, but I do agree that the time had come. I'm very excited for the future of Dreamworld.
Always awesome to see that we do have somewhat of an interesting theme park history here in Australia. First trip to Dreamworld was on 3 December 2019, booked it that year. The bloody thing closed a month prior to the day haha oh well
So weird seeing this as an Expedition Extinct, grew up on this one, devastated when it closed - very keen for the new coasters to come though, especially seeing as Movie World is shutting Arkham Asylum (Lethal Weapon you briefly mentioned)
Wait, Arkham Asylum is closing? I went on that with my friends back in 2017 on our trip to Australia. Didn't get to go to Dreamworld, though; we were only there for WB Movie World.
@@ExpeditionThemePark they just retracked the whole coaster. So it maybe not hold any records anymore. I live in Sevierville and worked for Dollywood. And have some family that still works for them so if you need anything just hit me up.
It was quite hilarious, when nobody in line wanted to give up the chance of getting into the last car of the ride. Tower of Terror was such a great ride and I was happy to experience it for the first and for the last time on its closing weekend.
I loved growing up at Dreamworld during its heyday of the late 90s/early 2000's (pre- Ardent Leisure ownership). The roar of the Tower of Terror was a deafening taunt - are you brave enough to ride me, or are you too chicken? Having ridden it in both its versions, I prefered the orignial cars and restraints (which would allow you to comfortablly move your arms, but the adrenaline rush of facing backwards and watching the ground rush up to meet you. Unfortunately, like many of their attractions, Tower of Terror suffered from poor management, maintainence etc (which only on my kindest days would I attribute to difficulty getting parts, esspecially when you look at management of the park as a whole from about 2005-2017 ish (post Thunder River Rapids)). 'Unreliable' is an understatement; it really needed to be retired a few years earlier. I've commented before on the change in the feel of the launch over the years, but the really significant change was the feel of coming back into the LSM for the brake run - in 2019 it was no longer a smooth run back to the platform, it was a series of shuddering jolts that halted you halfway down the tunnel before a separate motor started up so you could limp your way to the exit. The poor old girl just needed a damn rest! Thank you for covering the Aussie parks and coasters! Its a real hit in the nostalgia feels seeing the old ads from the parks I used to (and still mostly do) love.
My mother accidentally rode the lethal weapon while pregnant with me without knowing it, obviously it wasnt lethal enough because I still made it out! but that thing seriously gave concussions I wasnt surprised they tamed it down
The collapsing high rise story is my favorite. But nothing can compare to Superman's exile from Krypton, which is my favorite theming for a Freefall Coaster.
I was only about 11 years old when I went on this when it had the original theming. All I remember is being very scared - there was one room you'd go into and it looked like you were walking the plank like 100 stories above ground.... I think it was just a trick paint job but man it terrified me as a kid.
The vortex was the very first rollercoaster I ever rode, then the King Cobra both of which are now gone, but those two rides started my love for coasters. I'm glad the Beast has been able to hang around so long, what a great wooden coaster.
I was very fortunate to get my last rides on this as I went to the park just a week before they were announcing it was gonna be decommissioned, an iconic ride that I will never forget!
Thanks for covering this much loved ride from my youth. I still remember like it was yesterday the first time I chickened out on this ride in its opening year with my dad (I was 9) and the ride operator let me sit in the booth and launch the ride instead! Was suddenly brave after that so he let us ride straight after without lining up again. It never got as high up that tower as it did in that first year.
Dreamworld won’t be the same without hearing the alarm sound followed by the roar of this in the background. I remember the days it use to go almost to the top of the tower and have seen it go to the top empty when doing the morning test runs
Fun fact, towards the end of its life the tower of terror 2 costed well over $4000aud every time it launched. And it has also only been able to reach around half way up the tower compared the ¾ in the opening decade
This is only true in places like Australia, and it didn't even need to be an SLC. Literally ANY "major" steel coaster would qualify due to scarcity. But a US park in the mid 90's for ex, was NOT going to become a "coaster enthusiast destination" just by adding an SLC...
I love seeing you do Aussie Parks!! I love your channel and it makes it extra exciting to see the parks I grew up with being mentioned. you should discuss the Thunder River Rapids ride at Dreamworld on the Gold Coast. It was a family favourite but in 2016 a tragic accident happened that uncovered the truth behind the safety and terrible maintenance history of ride. the Court hearings were very interesting and have lots of information for you to touch on. I'm sure plenty of Aussie's like myself would love to see you cover this ride and its eventual extinction. Thanks!
Ahh what a classic. I’ll never forget it’s last day, all of us staff rode it over and over after the park closed, and I was lucky enough to ride the last ever ride. It really was an icon, as soon as you heard it roaring out of the tunnel, everyone would stop and stare.

And even to now where they have just tried to hide their past mistakes (like concreting the river rapids and sticking a coaster there, instead of just keeping it a natural river and haivng a nice tribute with the coaster over it. or abandoning the river paddle boat in the middle of the lake, or when they turned it into TOT2 which most people here will agree that it wasnt nearly as good) ive yet to find a video really disecting Dreamworld history

So happy you did a video on the tower of terror!! Dreamworld is my home park and I grew up there as my parents worked there during the week and on weekends! This was my favourite ride and it still is! You should do a deep dive into the river rapids ride that was removed from dreamworld due to the deaths of a few people when the vessel flipped over on the conveyor belt. Turns out one of the jets to filter water from the pond near by stopped working causing the water level dropped. My parents mentioned there were a lot of issues with that ride before the incident

I rode Superman: The Escape three years later and they felt like two different experiences despite being almost identical rides. A shame I'll never get to ride ToT again if I ever go back to Australia. I do feel privileged to be one of the select few to have ridden both rides, however.

Great video! I loved this ride so much. First went on in 1998 and was lucky enough to experience it on it's last day of operation (have some videos on my channel, cheeky plug lol). RIP
Dreamworld has struggled since the unfortunate deaths on the river rapids ride. New coaster parts have been arriving weekly though, hopefully a glimmer of hope.
I live right across the road from Dreamworld & 10 mins away from the other theme parks ! I went on the Tower of Terror when I was 7 ! Giant Drop is so much better I think , but I do miss it !
Admittedly I freaked out a little bit when I saw my name in the video! Very informative. I loved Tower of Terror, both instances. Rode many times over the years.
I was there on the last day of operation and was in either the third or fourth last car of the day. Was very emotional. Such a good ride and will always be my favorite ride that Dreamworld has ever made. I'm keen for this new roller coaster though.
13:41 "and some for obvious reasons" well that's one way to address that tragedy and the removal of that ride without addressing it and removing focus from the topic of the video 😅
If they REALLY want to make a ride that captures the essence of Superman flying through the air, they should make a giant catapult that just launches you into space.
@@markvolpe2305 could be possible, but part of me doubts that change will happen anytime soon. They announced that while the coaster is leaving, the drop tower is staying, which to me means that it’s staying in its current state
Hi, from the UK. I have been on the version 2, of the ride, loved it, as well as the giant drop. Been to WB Movie World, loved the Superman coaster, but the new DC Rivals coaster looks cool. Also did the Beast ( wooden coaster ) at Australia's Wonderland, ( Sydney ) sadly that park closed down many years ago.
I miss the Lethal Weapon already. I have quite a few fond memories of that coaster. I also miss the Wipeout and Tower of Terror. Australia doesn't have many decent coasters and thrill rides, so it kinda sucks when several major ones close over a relatively short duration.
Was a great ride when it first opened, rode it many times in those first years, pity it spent more time down for repairs, towards the end of it's life, never got a chance to ride it one last time
This was hands down one of my favourite rides in the world. I much preferred it to Magic Mountain's 'Superman: Escape From Krypton" which I rode a few years back. I've been on it countless times over the years and was lucky enough to experience both the forwards and backwards launch. In 2019 a few months before Dreamworld announced it's official closure I unknowingly rode it for the last time and was heartbroken when I saw the news. While it's true towards the end it was quite rough, didn't go as fast or as high as it once did and was always having problems it was still my favourite ride at Dreamworld, and though I totally understand why they decided to retire the Tower of Terror I'm still gutted that I'll never get to experience it again
I loved Superman The Escape, i'm pretty sure this one would have shattered the glass ceiling for me ,sucks it no longer stands .hey if your ever looking for obscure park expeditions. Here in Phx Az we got a place called Castles n Coasters, witch atleast for us locals is an institution with a looping coaster called Desert Storm ...just in case you were looking for a video topic .As always love the channel bro keep on keeping on
They have also removed another coaster by the time the new coaster opens. The Buzzsaw coaster is being removed after less than 10 years of service. Dreamworld really needs to step up their game in terms of replacing rides.
I went on this ride a few years back. It was alright. What I would have loved for them to send off, I would want them to just crank up the speed and make the cart fire off the end hahahaha
Dreamworld and movie world are the only theme parks with roller coasters for about 1000km (2million miles) they’re also pretty much across the road from each other
The animals from wonderland were distributed to other wildlife parks around eastern Australia. Some to featherdale (nearby), but the big croc was relocated to the USA.
The original Tower of Terror was an absolute weapon. 0-160kph in just 80m! The updated Tower of Terror II with its +200m run up with the cart facing backwards had nothing on the original format. Still miss it dearly along with the wild west section of the park. I at least wish they kept the part of the ramp that went up the tower to symbolise what was once there.

Had the pleasure of riding this in 2004 in its original format whilst on holiday in Queensland
a nice credit to have!
Tower of Terror II looks like my worst nightmare.
Great video! I loved this ride so much. First went on in 1998 and was lucky enough to experience it on it's last day of operation (have some videos on my channel, cheeky plug lol). RIP
Great video!! Great work!!!!
Thank you!
another fantastic video, thanks for your hard work.
thank you so much!
Dreamworld has struggled since the unfortunate deaths on the river rapids ride. New coaster parts have been arriving weekly though, hopefully a glimmer of hope.
I hope so!
I got to do the raft ride in 2010, thankfully.
I live right across the road from Dreamworld & 10 mins away from the other theme parks ! I went on the Tower of Terror when I was 7 ! Giant Drop is so much better I think , but I do miss it !
Great video very interesting
Admittedly I freaked out a little bit when I saw my name in the video! Very informative. I loved Tower of Terror, both instances. Rode many times over the years.
Yessss thank you!
I was there on the last day of operation and was in either the third or fourth last car of the day. Was very emotional. Such a good ride and will always be my favorite ride that Dreamworld has ever made. I'm keen for this new roller coaster though.
Yeah it looks fun
13:41 "and some for obvious reasons" well that's one way to address that tragedy and the removal of that ride without addressing it and removing focus from the topic of the video 😅
If they REALLY want to make a ride that captures the essence of Superman flying through the air, they should make a giant catapult that just launches you into space.
Yeh that’ll be realistic lol
Ahem, Superman Ultimate Flight at Six Flags Over Georgia/Great Adventure/Great America?
Awesome stuff!!
Thanks!
Now that TOT is gone, are they going to do anything to upgrade the drop tower portion of it? I would be cool to see a KI or KD ring style on it.
It already is a drop tower
@@SmileBulletWhat if they wanted more capacity on it?
@@markvolpe2305 could be possible, but part of me doubts that change will happen anytime soon. They announced that while the coaster is leaving, the drop tower is staying, which to me means that it’s staying in its current state
hands down best ride iv ever ridden.should toatally do a video on the other rides at dreamworld, like the WIPEOUT that was also demolished..
Every ytber: look at these cool effects i used in filmora/skillshare
Expedition theme park: wow looks at it spin.
easily pleased haha
I didn’t even know they closed the ride 😢 great video my friend!! More Aussie content please 🙏
Good for us.
13:10 Can You Send Me The Link For The Video ?
man it's too bad these rides are gone, looks like a lot of fun!
Yeah!
I miss the Lethal Weapon already. I have quite a few fond memories of that coaster.
I also miss the Wipeout and Tower of Terror.
Australia doesn't have many decent coasters and thrill rides, so it kinda sucks when several major ones close over a relatively short duration.
Yeah a real shame really
I only rode Lethal Weapon once and I just remember it really hurting my neck like the majority of Vekoma SLCs do.
Was a great ride when it first opened, rode it many times in those first years, pity it spent more time down for repairs, towards the end of it's life, never got a chance to ride it one last time
yeah!
as an Australian who goes to dream world and loves my country... this makes me happy
These videos are great to watch on a lazy Sunday morning😃
Happy Sunday!
Thanks for the free trial on skillshare
Hope you learn something good!
OMG YAAYYYYYY i grew up going to dreamworld. would you ever cover the history of the nickalodeon section from the 90's-10's ish???
Hope you can do more Australian theme parks soon
Thankyou great video 👌
Glad you enjoyed it
8:18 you can see the rapids ride 😢😢😢
We've all wanted to see that.
RCT style
they should rename it to intamin tower
Dreamworld and movie world are the only theme parks with roller coasters for about 1000km (2million miles) they’re also pretty much across the road from each other
Nice of them to give the parts to Magic Mountain.
This has nothing to do with this rollercoaster, but what happened to the animals from Wonderland Sydney?
I don't know actually
The animals from wonderland were distributed to other wildlife parks around eastern Australia. Some to featherdale (nearby), but the big croc was relocated to the USA.
@@kimstark6125 thank God, that was on my mind
Great video. Would love to see one off Hades 360.
Great suggestion
The original Tower of Terror was an absolute weapon. 0-160kph in just 80m! The updated Tower of Terror II with its +200m run up with the cart facing backwards had nothing on the original format. Still miss it dearly along with the wild west section of the park. I at least wish they kept the part of the ramp that went up the tower to symbolise what was once there.
I like his videos because they are really funny and goodly interesting
thank you!
I like that u showed a big brother season 1 intro for some reason xd
Please do Shockwave from SFGAm next!!! This was great as always!! 👍🏼
Thankfully I got to experience Tower of Terror at Dreamworld, literally the day before it was to close and become the Tower of Terror 2.
