The rides all opened back up, and me and my 10 or so other classmates had the whole park to ourselves. We rode Ultra-Twister 15 times in a row, the ride operator just said "Tell me when you wanna stop, I am just going to keep it moving until then." Amazing experience. We need a video on "Viper" that was at Six Flags Great Adventure. The whole story with the USA facility, it being a prototype, adding the rings, the fact people said it was so painful (meanwhile it wasn't even close to pre-premiere big apple coaster, or the togo stand ups still up, and of course the disaster of windjammer surf racers). That everyone thought it was better to watch and picture-esque, etc. It has a backstory most don't know. Unless i'm nuts and this already happened. I wish it could've been fixed/altered I thought it was enjoyable besides the shoulder harnesses and it should've had a double in-line twist inversion(s) too. The drop not even being tall literally WAS SOMETHING to write home about on top of it.

I liked Viper. It had the best drop in the park and the inversions were fun. It was not a fun ride to test ride in the morning since it would leave me seeing stars.
The coaster ran better with a full train. Even though Rolling Thunder was my main coaster, I was able to experience Viper with 3 train operations, “wheels being thrown” and Viper being struck by lightning. It was a fun coaster to ride and work. I preferred it over Medusa in both aspects.

It was, by far, my favorite attraction, and I wouldn’t even be able to venture a guess as to how many times I rode it. I remember its constant closures, though. There was another high ride nearby, and we would get on it, just to see if UT was back up and running! I will say, though, I remember it being *quite* a rough/uncomfortable ride. Got to meet someone on the Ride Safety Commission who was able to confirm some of the details of Ultratwisters construction.
After meeting with executives from Togo, the Six Flags executives wanted the ride to be assembled in Japan first so they could see it operating and request changes before it’s relocation to GADV. They also wanted the ride to be easily removable for its ride rotation program.
So yes, the prototype in the video is in Japan, and it is also the same ultratwister that was sent to Six Flags Great Adventure.

"Moving conveyor! Please WATCH YOUR STEP!!!" Yes! We were proud to have that coaster in Houston. The 45 degree lift hill caused the ride footprint to be "left offset" of The Texas Cyclone. It was also found that the hydra fluid to work the "turn tables" was "too thick" for Houston. 3 computer processors ensured safety. The sad note WAS, Yes! the park came down around 7-9 months. I road that in NJ back in the day. It was a pretty cool ride. I do remember going back to the park about 4 years later to find the ride was surprisingly gone, Was interesting to learn all these yrs later what happened to it

Ultra Twister rides foreman here from Astroworld ‘91. Funny that everyone in Houston remembers the ride’s strict manly intercom voice saying “Moving conveyor, please watch your step.” Working there, it was fun to observe the stuff we used to find in the small white rocks below the track at the end of the night (mainly hundreds of cheap neon pink and green imitation Ray-ban sunglasses). Great fun to work there. I miss it dearly.

I have to go against you on the not rough part. I rode it many times at Astroworld, and the brake runs were insanely abrupt, especially the forward facing one on the top track.
With that being said...I still loved it! Cresting the peak of the lift hill was always a breathtaking moment!

I was lucky enough to ride it at Astroworld, it was such a fun ride! That first drop was such a surprise, being the first nearly 90 degree drop, and with it only having single cars, you plummeted immediately after the lift hill. Awesome ride.

I miss that ride. Glad I was lucky enough to catch the Astroworld version. Would have been great to ride the original vertical version, but oh well. Can’t catch them all! Wish someone would build something similar. There are smaller parks with not much space that could use something like this.

Great ride! I rode it at Six Flags Astroworld, like 500 times. I'm from Houston, and am Disgusted that Astroworld had to be Demolished. I was Born in 1976, so Astroworld was my Hang Out spot. Takes a lot of Memories away, because it got Demolished. It's a shame to me. Thanks.

I rode the Ultra Twister when it was at Great Adventure in Jersey. As I remember it was a fun, fast, short ride -- I wanted that sensation to keep going. Also I remember the forces were being pretty harsh on your shoulders and upper body. Definetly a ride that was over-hyped, but still a fun ride to jump on real quick.

This was cool to see. I actually got to ride it a few times at astro world. It was fun and a smooth ride. I always wondered what happened to it after astro world closed. Now I know, its gone forever. I wondered what happened to the viper as well. I loved the early 90's, we had season passes to six flags so could hit up six flags over Texas, Fiesta Texas in San Antonio and Astro World a couple times a summer.

As mentioned in the video, at AstroWorld, the Ultra Twister was modified to have a 45 degree lift hill. However the attachments for the rails of the original vertical lift still existed and were easily visible. The seats were pretty ergonomic but I always felt like the seat back tilted forward a bit. That would actually make sense for a vertical lift. I'll always remember the sound of the recording that played on the platform. "Moving conveyor! Please watch your step!" The station and lift were located directly behind the mountain formerly occupied by the Alpine Sleigh Ride which had closed years before. The tracks from the Sleighs that extended behind the mountain had to be demolished to make room for Ultra Twister.

I rode the one in Nagashima Spa Land this month and thought the seat back was a bit forward and seemed very odd. Great ride thought, I was lucky enough to ride it many many times on my visit there as the park was quiet.

I rode this when it was at great adventure back in the 80’s and can still remember it being the most unique coaster ever. I also remember going back to the park multiple times and seeing the ride closed and then it was gone. Definitely a good ride but it was at the wrong park. Ride capacity was way too low for SFGAV
