I seriously feel only true MGMT fans like this, none of my friends that know MGMT for just "Kids" and all the mainstream song don't like this. I love this song, "Siberian Breaks" is one of the most impacting songs ever to me and I love the originality.
This album is full of amazing textures and sounds. It's almost magic. It's better to listen to it with headphones to fully appreciate its sublime complexity.

Picture this, a few summers back I was really depressed and as usual when i'm depressed I hit the music shop. The Handshake plays on the overhead speaker and the biggest smile shows on my face, I start tapping my toe and after it was over I was like "oh my god... I need to know what that was!" I go over to the lady working the music stand and she tells me who it was. That night I listen to Oracular Spectacular and that's when I realized, "this is probably one of my favorite albums."
The intro gives me 'nightmare before Christmas' and 'corpse bride' musical vibes. I used to watch those movies religously as a child. This whole song is nostalgic.
I...I dont know how to make this song better, MGMT was one of my favorite bands in highschool, their upbeat slightly mellowed two toned songs kept me sane, OS was nice, Congratulations even better, and this..this is fantastic, its so pleasant to watch MGMT evolve and grow into this wonderful song of emotion.
I took my daughter to see these guys at Calvin College in Grand Rapids, MI; then, a few weeks later, went to see Rush with some buddies. While both were great shows, the energy and vibe by MGMT was off the charts... that crew has their stuff together, without a doubt.
Omg, thats EXACTLY how i discovered Oracular Spectacular. It was about 5 years ago, i was suffering from teenage angst, and i was in a music store just playing around with the mp3 players and "Weekend Wars" started playing and i fell in LOVE and wrote down the name of the album so i could give it a listen at home. Still one of my favorite albums till this very day and it always brightens my mood.

What I appreciate about MGMT is that they do what they want to do, they aren't making music that is very radio pop friendly even after the success of a few of their earlier songs, they make the music they want to make, and I think that is beautiful and very respectable. And I just so happen to enjoy the stranger psychedelic tunes they manke.

@Ian Baker: I get your question, but it's not the views that matter in this case. Ever since the works of Shakespeare, the masses have attracted to the lowest common denominator. This is not to say that MGMT's earlier works were bad (I loved them at the time), but they did in fact pander to the (now referred to as) EDM crowd. After "Oracular Spectacular" their transition to this new, abstract formula was signposted by their single, "Metanoia" (look up the definition if you don't understand). Keeping their dream alive, they boldly released "Congratulations," an album that got horrific reviews from their original fan base (probably because they couldn't take drugs and dance to it at a club); Not being sellouts, MGMT cared more about the music they liked producing than making even more money than they already did! This new self-titled album is the next logical progression, and I strongly admire their latest work (I play the first half of this album on repeat all the time). TL;DR: quantity has zero correlation with quality; always has, always will.
Me too! I was kinda surprised with the kid singing in the beginning. I was used with Andrew doing it after I heard the live version. But anyway, it eventually grows on you. The song is really beautiful. MGMT FOR LIFE! xD

Oh yeah. Lyrically, this is their best work. Even musically is pretty fascinating. It's definitely a grower. I like it more with each listen. As of right now Plenty of Girls in the Sea, Cool Song No.2, and Introspection are my favorites.
I was at there show here in Vancouver last week. If you ever get the opportunity to see these guys don't pass it up. They played Alien Days at the very end right after Siberian Breaks, what an epic way to end it.
honestly, i wasn't waiting for something as good like this. they've overpassed my expectations. I really like the influence of the 60s-70s rock of bands like Pink Floyd, Soft Machine, Gong and Hetfield and the North. And when we have influence of bands like that, the results will never be wrong
