When I use to put my shoes in my backpack after climbing they stunk. Started attaching them to the outside of the pack with a carabiner so they air out each time and haven’t noticed any stank. So definitely would give it a shot.
All good except for the freezing part. Labs store bacteria for study in freezers. They don’t die in the freezers, nor will they die in yours. I think the scrubbing and alcohol application has a much greater impact. If you just stuck your shoes in the freezer, the bacteria would wake up when the shoes are warm again and you would be right where you started.
Ew! Well the shoe was still pretty stinky after the alcohol the freezer really seemed help a lot. Its prob something you just need to stay ahead of before the smell gets out of hand/foot.
Labs suspend bacteria in cryoprotectants such as glycerol if we want them to be alive after freezing. If we'd like them to be dead, a standard protocol to rupture cells is to put them under multiple freeze-thaw cycles. While the alcohol and scrubbing probably did most of the work, I'd guess the freezer may have contributed too, with more freeze thaw cycles improving things.
A lot of bacteria do die in temps below freezing. Only a few bacteria live through freezing temps so this is only partially true. Freezing will kill a ton of bacteria.
I fixed the problem by NEVER putting them in a backpack/bag after training. You forget them ONCE inside and you are doomed, but since I’ve started hanging them always they don’t smell no more!
I use small usb fans to dry the shoes after training for couple of hours and then place SmellWell packs in them. Works really well to prevent the smell from developing in the first place.
The freezer is a great idea. I'd go easy with the isopropyl, though. You never know which parts of the shoe might be really sensitive to that. Frankly, I just put mine in the washing machine on cold or lukewarm and never hat an issue with that.
Don't they lose some of their rigidity or something simmilar? Also I heard that putting tea packets over night can remove the smell. These two seem like the best options right now but I'm still a bit "scared" of washing them.
@@maringuic2484 Why would they lose any rigidity? If you don't use some kind of aggressive detergent it's basically just water and some warmth. If they stand up to foot sweat and climbing in the sun, they'll take a wash as well.
It should be noted that freezing only slows down bacteria growth. Therefore, bacteria in cold temperatures will not be able to function, but if they are brought back to room temperature, they will start to multiply. So you want a “one two punch” kill them off then preventing the growth. Stay ahead of the curve and keep the shoes clean that will keep your shoes fresh.
I fixed my foot odor long term (2+ years) with a course of OTC athletes foot powder (tolnaftate, miconazole, among others). Use it daily until the smell stops, then for a few weeks after. I haven't had it come back.
The only thing that has worked for me is Friendly Foot shoe spray. It will not remove existing odor but if you start with a new pair of shoes and spray after every session there will never be any smell (except for the smell of the spray).
I swear by the Peet shoe dryer. It was $50 on Amazon and I leave it running 24/7. I put my sweaty climbing shoes on it and they dry overnight -- no more smell! I wasted my time with a bunch of other things before getting the recommendation from a skier, of all people. It works wonders on my surf booties and running shoes.
@@BetaClimbersI also use this method^^ but with the Dr. Prepare shoe dryer (it's more portable). It works extremely well and it doesn't get hot enough to melt the glue on the shoes. Also, when it comes to scrubbing the inside, a light detergent with a soft bristled bottle brush works quite well.
When you return from the climbing gym just put your climbing shoes in the airing cupboard or other warm place and the sweat evaporates and the shoes smell brand new overnight
Wash your feet before putting them on. Good foot care is key really. Always use clean socks in your daily shoes. Wash your feet well. And don't get foot fungus
I think the freezing method is a gimmick. My stinky shoes aren’t stinky till I work them. Its like a glowstick. I massage them before putting them on and boom the smells are back.
Mine like on the outside of the pack and get a spray of alcohol as soon as I walk in the house. It’s also a good plan to make sure your feet are clean before truely go in the shoes… Mine don’t smell at all
Stinky shoes? First thing is to wash those stinking dogs of yours! Putting already sweary and dirty feet in climbing shoes is just going to transfer your stinking athletes foot into the shoe. Clean your feet! I like to fill the sink with soapy water and put the shoes in and squish them around. After they are clean use a boot dryer! I really like the peet boot dryer.
Woah your shoes must be really worked, maybe do some better pre cleaning, toss them in the washing machine on cold temp. Then dry them out, freeze them so nothing grows, then wash again. A couple cycles should fix it.
Did he really do the smell test while the shoe was still deep frozen? If so, I can remove the smell from a dead rotten rat covered in feces. Deep freeze it and smell is gone ✌️
I have a video idea for you bro. If you go mountaineering in the rain and your clothes are soaking, dripping wet. Just toss ‘‘em in the freezer over night and BOOM, not dripping anymore
MY TOOTHBRUSH?!!!!
🤣🤣🤣

cooking is good for killing bacteria ;-)

You are on a another level
Soak in dishwashing liquid, scrub with brush, thoroughly rinse, soak in vinegar + water. Air dry next to fan.

I do the same, and after the wash they are stickier than before

@@TheS4ndm4n I had the rubber of the inside of the toebox break in a pair of shoes of mine. I suppose it was because it was due to the alcohol.
I know mine stink when I can smell them from 5 foot 6 inches away if you catch my drift. Ive used baking soda previously but I’ll try this next time

Exactly! If your shoes stink its probably because your feet stink. Treat the problem not the symptom.
My feet never smell in regular shoes, but my climbing shoes sure as heck do smell after using them barefoot without cleaning for too long.

Wow I’ll have to check that out guess it not to hot for the glue

I've beendet using charcoal inserts and they've been working wonders

Backing soda once a week, even after daily use, does the trick ( pH too high for bacteria?)
If only papa Yelnats could watch this before wasting so much time boiling those shoes
What kind of soap do you use?
Not having stinky climbing shoes is aid.
Thank you so much, I really needed this advice because god damn my shoes are bad. will give it a try!
🤙🏻🤙🏻
I'm a fan of a little Borax powder in my shoes.
I hang mine on the outside of bag and use odorban on them every once and awhile
I left my shoes in my car boot too long once and looked inside it to see mold growing 😷
I had a brief moment of hope, but unfortunately am way beyond all of this.
buy leather shoes, wear the socks, keep them dry, and spray inside with vinegar solution once a week.
My climbing shoes make me sneeze when I smell them 😔
Curious how quickly the smell came back?
I’ll have to update you on that one so far so good
Tow jam soup!!!! 🍜 😳☠️

I keep hearing about that ima have to try it
the outro looks like its green screen
toss them in the washer machine
It comes back really fast after the freezer trick.

🤣 I see your problem, You should probably remove the rat from the shoe.
