Not only the Nobel winners and royals go down the stairs, the waiters carrying large trays with food take the same steps. The Royal table is always placed by the end of the stairs and the entire hall is crammed with tables. The ceremony and banquet are televised. After the banquet they move to the guilded hall to dance.
