Great video❣️ You seem like a lovely couple and I just started subscribing. I just really alove that you notice everything beautiful big and small. Stockholm really is a beauty. I hope you guys come back and visit other citys too 🇸🇪 Love from sweden 🌬💞
@JacobandJennyTravel Yes Kiruna seems wonderful! I have not been that high up in the country yet doh ☺️. I live in Norrköping (on the east coast a bit below Stockholm), but I have half the family up in Jämtland and I really love that culture, activities and nature (and the dialect🥰). Born and lived in Stockholm until school started when we moved to Norrköping where my other side of the family is from. And I have to mention that Norrköping is also fantastically beautiful. Also built on/around water but instead of still water, it is around a rapid that flows through the city, many bridges, lots of green and nice parks in the city, nice buildings, working class culture, and this city really has its history. I'm out taking photos day and night 🤩 Have a great weekend 🍂❄️✨️
I was listening more than I watched as I was cooking while playing this clip. But, it was a little funny to me that you assumed there would be some history in the old town, all while you were likely treading the cobblestone that is said to have literally run red with noble blood during the Stockholm bloodbath. Also, most of the Stockholm architecture is actually german if my history class could be trusted ^^ Just a bit of trivia for ya! Seems like you enjoyed the trip, so that's sweet ✌️😁
@JacobandJennyTravel I realize that "it's funny to me" may sound like I think you're dumb, in hindsight. But I really just meant that I found it funny that there is so much more history under your feet than I think you even suspected at the time. Sorry if this came across the wrong way 🫡 Also, on a field trip with my school, we had a historian walk us through it all, like the place was an outdoors museum. I hate that I wasn't more interested in history back then 😅 Sorry for another long one 😋
You most definately need to try Smörgåstårta (be vary though; there's many different kinds). If you're only trying one, there's only one correct suggestion and that's the one with shrimps, mayo etc. Most are good though. But I only wish you the absolute best experience 🙌
Also, about the food, the amount of good restaurants is too numerous to list but a Swedish classic first course is toast Skagen (if you like shrimps). A good fish restaurant is Sturehof (lite pricier maybe?). Another good restaurant is Gondolen with a stunning view since its in a glass bridge high up (close to Gamla Stan) but its even a little pricier.
Yeah, Swedish "ostkaka" isn't something you could get at a café, at least I've never seen it there, or know anyone who would have it with a cup of coffee, like ostkaka isn't fika to me. To me it's more like breakfast food, or dessert after a meal at home.
In Gamla stan you also have Stockholm's most narrow ally, look it up it's a fun little visit. I did laugh when you said that their is a famous museum about a boat... That "boat" is a massive royal ship because I think you are referring to Wasa. It's def worth a visit because it's a wow moment.
Fact about Stocholm subway is that 90 stations of 100 are made with art and it's worlds longest art gallery. Btw you have to do a trip for few days in Stockholm arcipelago and best time is in summer mid July to mid August
Hi guys. Thank you for the nice video about our Stockholm, an old expression about Stockholm is that it is called the "Venice of the North" because of all the waterways in the city. Now you know. Tack care Lasse🫶
Something you failed to mention or don't know is that you were in the Old Town and right by the Royal Palace. Gamla stan has more expensive fika than other places.
Another great video as always! :) And i've to say you were very lucky with the weather. I'm not sure if you remember me saying it when you were discussing the travel, that autumn isn't the best period to visit. However it worked out fine in your case. :)
What you realy need to try while in sweden is what we call "Smörgåstårta" or like you say sandwich-cake. Or swedish meatballs with potatoes, brown saus and lingonberries

Don’t want to be picky but it’s not the sea, it’s the fresh water lake Mälaren. It pours out into the sea by the castle and the locks and eventually through the archipelago into the Baltic sea. 😊
Might be a bit late posting this but taking a chance. Ony of the best if not the best restaurant with walk in is "soldaten svejk" (no reservations) and there prices is not bad either, they serve all kinds of food but try "plankstek" if you want to try a old swedish classic. The dish went out of fashion a while but it's making a comeback. Visit Djurgården area if you can, I think you will like it.
Is coffee break in the middle of the day not a thing in America? Isn't that when you're supposed to do it? It's not a break if you do it after work. And it's not advisable to drink caffeine in the evening. I'm somewhat confused.
@ 7:49 your at Stortorget, can literary be translated to either the the great square or large square and for an interesting if somewhat gruesome fact is the location where Stockholm Bloodbath took place in 1520 which was the culmen of political intrigue and hostility between Sweden and Denmark leading to Sweden leaving the Kalmar union which at that time had unified Scandinavia into one large unit. Ed: Was so focused on the historical part when answering but your quite right @altorsan. Stora could translate to great as well as large, my bad ;).
The Old Town aka Gamla Stan was very close to be teared down in the mid 1960ies (together with the rest of the central city). The plan was to turn it to a big parking lot/house from were people could simply walk to the city center. These plans were scrapped in the very last minute, which we now are very grateful for.
Your viewpoint was just a liiiiitle bit to low. You should have been on top of the hill on Södermalm just behind you. Sad you missed it, but still cool to see someone explore your own home town (of choice)! :-)
Ever heard the expression "Cities aren't loud, cars are loud", you'll notice that in alot of europe soon as the cars go the tranquility steps in unless it's giga crowded (Looking at you, Louvre)
The Old Town dates from the 13th century but most buildings are from the 1600s and 1700s. The area has been settled since the Stone Age, and was founded as a city in 1252 by Swedish statesman Birger Jarl.

And I hope you are aware that the Vikings wasn’t a set group of people or a ethnicity, but it was a profession. Something you did, and not something you were. Dunno if you’re even a Swede or Scandinavian, but we have a saying in Norwegian: «å gå i viking…» which explains it. In the beginning they where tradesmen, but later evolved into piracy. Some would call them explorers. Norse is the correct term when talking about the people. And in Norway we had several Norse queens that was of various ethnic and cultural backgrounds: indigenous Sámi, Siberian and Mongolian, Ukrainian… slaves was one of the biggest exports during the Viking age, and they took many, especially Celts and Slavs. Hence the word «Slavs» meaning slave🤭😝😅

Stockholm was not bombed during WWII like many other European cities. But on the other hand, unfortunately, a lot of old buildings in the city were demolished during a period.
Great video of Stockholm, welcome! On that square in Gamla stan we had the "Blood bath" in 1520, when the danish king Christian I beheaded many of the nobility and others, but then we hade our new king Gustav Vasa 1521/1523, that exit the Kalmar union and we became a country of our own again since 1397..
It had the wrong dimensions and too many guns for that very thin design, it looks like it will tip over even now and it would as soon as a hard wind comes and it did in the past. A national embarrassment that they turned into a monetary success story by doing that cool museum.

I like Stockholm alot. I even lived there two years as i were toddler. It is so easy to go over sea from Finland to Sweden. The trip with big ferries are nice too. At least at the summertime. Not so pleasant at winter. I used to make one or two week trips there as i had some relatives close by. The public transport is great and i used lot of the subway system "tunnelbana" going all around the city. Last time i visited Sweden last years october for my aunts funeral in Norrtälje that is not too far away from Stockholm. I still have six cousines and one uncle living all around Sweden. Nice to see places that i have seen so many times as i have wondered around the city. Even that i have visited there many times past 40 years i didn´t heard abut fika until travellers vlogs after 2020. Our coffee culture is slightly different in Finland and even that many people takes something sweet whit the coffee, most of the Finns takes just the coffee. I also like more Finnish coffee. The taste is smoother. I just hete that where i work now is only Swedish coffee (Löfberg) that is propably the most common or popular brand there. Sadly most of my relatives does not live close to Stockholm anymore so it would be more expensive to explore around the area. @@JacobandJennyTravel That ship is a really funny story. It's basically an example of hubris, that you should let the expert decide, not the guy with money, and of "how not to build a ship".
And a story of great excavation and preservation...
The clown is just a symbol/mascot for the ice cream company!
Makes sense haha!! Thank you for watching :)
There is a horror novel where that specific clown has a central role though. So could definitely be classified as creepy.

Great video❣️ You seem like a lovely couple and I just started subscribing.
I just really alove that you notice everything beautiful big and small. Stockholm really is a beauty. I hope you guys come back and visit other citys too 🇸🇪
Love from sweden 🌬💞
That is amazing, thank you so much for subscribing and your encouraging comment :) we enjoyed Kiruna as well🇸🇪♥️
@JacobandJennyTravel Yes Kiruna seems wonderful!
I'm out taking photos day and night 🤩
Have a great weekend 🍂❄️✨️
Glad you liked it! Welcome back any time :)
Thank you so much friend!! :)
I was listening more than I watched as I was cooking while playing this clip. But, it was a little funny to me that you assumed there would be some history in the old town, all while you were likely treading the cobblestone that is said to have literally run red with noble blood during the Stockholm bloodbath. Also, most of the Stockholm architecture is actually german if my history class could be trusted ^^
Just a bit of trivia for ya! Seems like you enjoyed the trip, so that's sweet ✌️😁
Haha thanks for the information :) we had a great time!
@JacobandJennyTravel I realize that "it's funny to me" may sound like I think you're dumb, in hindsight. But I really just meant that I found it funny that there is so much more history under your feet than I think you even suspected at the time. Sorry if this came across the wrong way 🫡
Also, on a field trip with my school, we had a historian walk us through it all, like the place was an outdoors museum. I hate that I wasn't more interested in history back then 😅
Sorry for another long one 😋
@@ainikih9532 No worries at all!! Thanks for sharing your story :)
You most definately need to try Smörgåstårta (be vary though; there's many different kinds). If you're only trying one, there's only one correct suggestion and that's the one with shrimps, mayo etc. Most are good though. But I only wish you the absolute best experience 🙌
That sounds delicious!! Thank you for the recommendation :)
It is the wrong type of cheesecake. 😀 Swedish cheesecake is something completly different. I hope you get to try that to.
That is good to know!! Thank you for the information :)
Yeah, Swedish "ostkaka" isn't something you could get at a café, at least I've never seen it there, or know anyone who would have it with a cup of coffee, like ostkaka isn't fika to me. To me it's more like breakfast food, or dessert after a meal at home.
Also ostkaka (cheesecake) is just not one type of dessert here. The ostkaka in Småland differs quite a bit from the ostkaka in Hälsingland .
@@Asa...S här i Småland äter vi absolut ostkaka som fika, men jag har aldrig sett det på café. 😀
Sometimes I eat ostkaka if I'm too lazy to make dinner and don't feel like any type of fast food.

Wow that is so cool! Good to know! Thanks for the information :)
Something you failed to mention or don't know is that you were in the Old Town and right by the Royal Palace. Gamla stan has more expensive fika than other places.
Legit a lot of tourist traps there.

Another great video as always! :)
And i've to say you were very lucky with the weather.

It is a great place!! 🇸🇪 Thank you for watching :)
13:28 It’s the the sea, the Baltic sea. A part of it called Mälaren.
Don’t want to be picky but it’s not the sea, it’s the fresh water lake Mälaren. It pours out into the sea by the castle and the locks and eventually through the archipelago into the Baltic sea. 😊
Good to know!! Thanks for the information :)

Hahaha!! Thanks so much for your comments friend :)
When was this filmed?? Aah, the blooming roses of November??
It was filmed in October!! Thank you for watching :)

We typically don't go out to a cafe in the middle of the work day so it is kind of special :) thanks for watching!
@@JacobandJennyTravel Ahaa, I see. Not really the case here in Europe. :)
Glad you enjoyed our capital. 😁👍🇸🇪

Stora could translate to great as well as large, my bad ;).
i would suggest calling it "the great square" or "The great plaza" instead. Rolls of the tongue a bit better.
It used to be named "stora torghit", so...
Wow that is wild, thank you so much for the information :)
The Old Town aka Gamla Stan was very close to be teared down in the mid 1960ies (together with the rest of the central city). The plan was to turn it to a big parking lot/house from were people could simply walk to the city center. These plans were scrapped in the very last minute, which we now are very grateful for.
Thank you so much for the information :)
Great review of Stockholm

Should go on a boat tour and see the islands around Stockholm
The boat tours did look so fun!! Thank you for the advice :)
The Old Town dates from the 13th century but most buildings are from the 1600s and 1700s. The area has been settled since the Stone Age, and was founded as a city in 1252 by Swedish statesman Birger Jarl.
Wow that is amazing!! Thank you for watching :)
What you're eating there is American cheesecake which in no way resembles Swedish cheesecake.
If you actually want to try Swedish cheesecake you'd need to go to a supermarket or a café that specifically advertises that they have the Swedish version.
They are completely different.
Of course this is filmed in the summer so you can't go back and fix it for your next video.

Stockholm old town is aboit 800 year old.... give or take a few.
Get the transport pass for metro, buses, and trains. With that, transportation is quite reasonable. To pay per trip is a very unwise way to get about.

That clown makes alot of people happy, if that clown is near than you know there's icecream. It's the GB Glass clown. Glass = Icecream.😉

lovely video. but I can't believe you were in Stockholm and didn't go to the ABBA Museum!!!!
Next time!! And thank you friend :)
As a Norwegian I went to Stockholm several times and never went there as I hate museums and Abba🤣🤣🤣
@@kilipaki87oritahiti yes I know about the Vikings. I thought my whole life I was half Swedish. my father said his parents were all Swede and spoke Swede but were born and raised in Kronoby Finland. I did a DNA test for fun. turns out I am half Finnish !! indeed my grandparents were Finnish blood. Guess they considered themselves Swedish. and the Vikings, well that's to support my Minnesota Vikings football team! SKOL

Wow that is crazy. Thank you for the information!
It was the inspiration for the bloody wedding in Game of thrones. Killing the guests of the party.
Boat? It's a war ship - that sunk on maiden voyage. So not a great war ship, but sunk 1628.

Maybe i could beg from youtuber "ThreeStarVagabond" if i could crash in his place some summer. He is a nice dude and makes lot of videos from Sweden.
That is so cool!! We definitely need to take the ferry sometime. Thanks so much for the recommendation :)
