Excellent reaction! I live very close to the Cidade de Deus (City of God) favela, and every day, on my way to the University, I pass by the favela and see that the situation remains the same, or even worse, and it’s unlikely that it will ever change, which is quite sad. Most of the actors in City of God (Cidade de Deus), the 2002 Brazilian film directed by Fernando Meirelles and Kátia Lund, were indeed members of the actual community or similar favelas in Rio de Janeiro. The film is notable for its use of non-professional actors, many of whom had no prior acting experience before being cast in the movie. The filmmakers chose to cast people from the favelas to add authenticity to the film, which tells the story of the rise of organized crime in the Cidade de Deus neighborhood. Several of the actors, including those in major roles, were from the community or other nearby favelas. The production included a workshop to train these non-professional actors before filming began. For example, Alexandre Rodrigues, who played the main character Buscapé (Rocket), and Leandro Firmino, who portrayed the violent gang leader Zé Pequeno (Li'l Zé), were both from favelas. Their performances contributed to the film's raw and realistic portrayal of life in the Cidade de Deus favela. This approach to casting helped City of God become one of the most critically acclaimed films of its time, known for its gripping realism and powerful storytelling.

A frequent mistake that even upsets some of us is thinking that we speak Spanish just because our country is located in Latin America, Brazil is in Latin America, but we speak PORTUGUESE and not Spanish, we were colonized by Portuguese and not by Spaniards
People from South of Brazil, kinda understand a little bit of Spanish, but comparing those two languages is like comparing English and German. Same root, a lot of common words, but very different pronunciation. Nonetheless, great reaction. Love from Brazil.
City of God has some pretty interesting things, much of the cast of actors seen in the film is actually their first performance, they are children and teenagers who lived in those favelas, second a character that appears in the film surpassed fiction grew up to become the boss of a territory in the favela the film is from 2002 he was shot down by the police of Rio de Janeiro, third HBO released a series continuation of the film the film tells you the events from the 60s to the 80s this series takes place in 2004 chronologically 20 years have passed the extraordinary thing is that it repeats the original cast of actors and much of the technical team of the original film, the series and the film are intertwined through flashbacks ruclips.net/video/JtZlUc01wRM/видео.htmlsi=psL17wy3EZC501M0

I dunno if you catched that, but the voodoo wizard told ze pequeno to never have sex wearing the amulet but he finally raped the girl and that's why he wasn't protected anymore
This film shows two sides, two opposites, Lil Z chose a life of crime and always looked for reasons to commit deliberate violence, Rocket followed the path of honesty and effort, in his life crime always knocked on his door, but he always looked for reasons to deny, they represent the two destinies that a young black man who grows up on the streets has, a choice that is influenced by the reality in which they live 🤔
That whole film theory that some people on the internet have floating around about "Cane and O-Dog" being the same person in Menace 2 Society? Actually "Rocket and Benny" fits a lot better from this movie if you think about it. Young lad chumps out of crime (in spite having The Gift for it) and leaves that life and stops getting the new clothes since his young days of the late seventies and early 80s and even gets contact lenses or something. He probably thinks he's making a real difference too.......
Fun Fact: it was not translated but at the very end of the film in the scene where the children are leaving in the alley they mention some names of drug dealers and groups that were emerging at the time and how they would end them all, one of the groups mentioned was the "Falange Vermelha"(Red Phalanx). Well, "Falange Vermelha" now "Comando Vermelho" (Red Command) became one of the biggest criminal organization in Brazil (biggest in Rio) and one of the biggest in South America! anyway, an interesting detail they added.
