Once the election is over, they forget about the people. That's why it's important to always cancel. There is no one there in politics who cares about the people. Your only small flaw was the real footage during the credits. They really interviewed Knockout Ned (Mane Galinha) in real life. This is Brazil the real deal. By the way, if you want to go deeper in these kind of movies you will probably want to watch "Elite Squad" (1 & 2).

One thing I always think about when reactions to this film appear is that foreigners only have half of the total experience because of the language. The film is full of local slang and the subtitles cannot convey the same emotion. Things are smoother in english, even if they try to convey the same meaning.

There's also a quasi-sequel from the same director called City of Men, which is a little more modern about 2 friend caught on opposite sides of an urban war. And if you like THAT, check out Tae-Guk-GI, which is a film about the Korean was with a similar plot to City of Men. City of Men isn't nearly as good as City of God, but it's still great.
You ought to watch Carandiru. City of God, Elite Squad and Carandiru are three essential films if you want a glance at the causes of Brazil's gang violence (which has much more to do with the state security apparatus than with the favela population)
It's sad that so many years after the release of this movie, which has become one of the most acclaimed of all time, people still have the sole choice of watching it with these dreadful/shit subtitles. For an example “você quer moleque” was just translated to “what do you want” but actually he said “what do you want kid”. It might not seem like a big deal,but it really takes the experience away from the language cause “moleque” is actually derogatory for a younger boy,well at least that’s what my mom told me cause we don’t live in Brazil anymore,I grew up in the states since I was 6. I’m not saying you need to go out and learn the language and it’s slang, all I am saying it’s hard to translate languages like Portuguese or Spanish completely because of slang,but even without slang it can still be a little difficult to translate. The same example for Mexican Spanish,they mostly speak with complete slang,at least that’s my opinion.

@@brandonmcduffHe meant that what they say in the movie doesn’t line up with the complete translation in English. Mostly because Brazilian Portuguese is spoken with a lot of slang. For an example “você quer moleque” was just translated to “what do you want” but actually he said “what do you want kid”. It might not seem like a big deal,but it really takes the experience away from the language cause “moleque” is actually derogatory for a younger boy,well at least that’s what my mom told me cause we don’t live in Brazil anymore,I grew up in the states since I was 6. I’m not saying you need to go out and learn the language and it’s slang, all I am saying it’s hard to translate languages like Portuguese or Spanish completely because of slang,but even without slang it can still be a little difficult to translate. The same example for Mexican Spanish,they mostly speak with complete slang,at least that’s my opinion.
