These kids are really favela residents. some of them became famous, some disappeared, others were arrested... but they were all part of a theater group in the favela. That makes this film so authentic. There is a film "City of God 10 Years Later" that shows the current reality of the actors.

the first time they watched it in the academy, about half the judges left the room to boycott it, 'cause they could not handle the violence (this includes the sexual violence), that's why. The academy had a lot of problems with realistic violence and sex on the cinema. A lot of things actrually had to change after this movie. But yet they denyed it of the Oscar

Unfortunately, in Brazil, social inequality only increases, and politicians live in a bubble, they only remember the people on election day, as they need their votes. Once the election is over, they forget about the people. That's why it's important to always cancel. There is no one there in politics who cares about the people. Favelas will always increase and with it violence.

@@brandonmcduffHe meant that what they say in the movie doesn’t line up with the complete translation in English. Mostly because Brazilian Portuguese is spoken with a lot of slang. For an example “você quer moleque” was just translated to “what do you want” but actually he said “what do you want kid”. It might not seem like a big deal, but it really takes the experience away from the language cause “moleque” is actually derogatory for a younger boy, well at least that’s what my mom told me cause we don’t live in Brazil anymore,I grew up in the states since I was 6. I’m not saying you need to go out and learn the language and it’s slang, all I am saying it’s hard to translate languages like Portuguese or Spanish completely because of slang, but even without slang it can still be a little difficult to translate. The same example for Mexican Spanish, they mostly speak with complete slang,at least that’s my opinion.

The film is true in nature... it tells about the journey of criminal complications that never ends and if you think it's an exaggeration it's because you've seen a lot of Disney, this is the real world and it's even worse... 😵💀🔥
