The US didnt free or release him. They didnt have him in custody, the UK did.
The UK allowed his release following a plea agreement between Assange and the US.
The court in Saipan in the Northern Marianas will supposedly sentence him to time served in return for a guilty plea. I say supposedly because it wouldnt be the first time the US has reneged on deals made in extradition proceedings. The Yanks had to do something because they know the appeal that had been allowed in the UK had a good chance of being decided in Assange's favour. So dont be surprised if he does actually get sentenced to time in a US federal prison and him carted off to the US mainland. As we know we can trust the yanks to keep their word.
Has the UK media treated Alex Belfield as a freedom fighter for free speech? If it did I must have missed that.

@@Handlebar-MustDash yep... plus he often stated he had received media training so knew what defamation, libel and slander are all about.... that went well for him didnt it?
To be quite Frank, havent been impressed by anyone on you tube who states.... "they have received training on defamation as part of my job"..... they mustn't listen to the training.

That's the problem of upsetting a very powerful government of a very powerful country by revealing the naughty things that they get up to. They (the powerful government of the powerful country) tend not to like it, will throw a large tantrum, and will do everything in their power to crush you. Assange was fortunate to get off so lightly, that's if he has. Perhaps a good idea for him to keep looking over his shoulder for a few years yet🤔

Andy: Who do I trust the most, authorities or Assange? 🤔 "Lawyers for Assange gave evidence it said would show that Assange was careful to protect lives." (Wikipedia)
