A really small thing that they're doing here that ends up going a long way, they crank up the backing vocal mics almost just as much as the lead mic. Really being able to hear all 3 voices brings the chorus to life and makes it sound so much richer.
So that would happen with Brent Smith and not with other singers that can sing just as good? (can't think of many that can span their voice straight through three octaves and sing all notes in between... or that they can pitch and boom within a second. I have seen him do it. My brother who is a musician was really shocked because he was facing the man within 1 meter in London and he couldn't believe it. Truth be told, Shinedown have songgs difficult to deal with live. But they do.
It just occurred to me that Shinedown is the quintessential rock band: Brent is the theatrical frontman. Guitar man is confident but nervous. Drummer just want to pound on something. And Eric is all rock 🎸 roll.

I feel the same way. I think it's because it's a tad too slow. I think in the recording they have two guitars as well, and here they only have one.

Pretty much this whole song is dubbed. Listen to the guitar.. they only have one guitarist yet they have the sound of multiple guitars..
