This was so hot in 1986. We heard it everywhere we went. I mean the Garage in NYC, the Clubhouse in DC and of course Catacombs in Philadelphia, PA on 12th St many a Friday and Saturday night we partied to this melody of Colonel Abram. We use to slop the floor up losing our minds. David Todd on Friday nights and Donald Stone on Saturday nights. Catacombs was the place at that time.
The Colonel was fine back in the day, remember seeing him perform this on "Soul Train" so sad how he wound up homeless and on the streets and passing away, just this one song should have set him up for life, RIP Colonel Abrams, you were truly a pioneer and your music will live on for eternity..
I remember when I went to the clubs in New York City in the 80's. They always played this song and the dance floor would get so crowded. It was really nice. Nice memories.
First time I heard this was at the Paradise Garage in NYC.. It affected me greatly.. I lived 3 blocks away from him, but we never crossed paths, (I was a bit awestruck of him.. Because his records RULED the dance clubs in NYC> . I was shocked to hear he was homeless and died on my birthday.. I was doing club music back then. he was a great inspiration to a lot of us..
all the way live. After the clubs closed, we rolled on up into the after hours joints! It was the best time ever! Everybody worked hard. Everybody partied hard. And for a minute, nobody got hurt. Sex and drugs killed the scene, sadly, though; that and our azzes were getting old and trying to have families, etc. LOLOLLL
I had the distinct pleasure and honor of seeing this Great performer in action in 1986 just before I left for USMC Boot Camp. He performed at O'Dells. Best HOUSE performance I've ever seen. And to make it even better....He partyed with us for a couple of hours after his show...... Damn!! I miss partying at O'Dells....Cignals....Fantasys.....Gatsby's......the two clubs that use to be at that warehouse at Park Circle....The Place (After hours spot)...The Underground (Edmondson Ave)......Disco Skate...Rhythm Skate....The DOX (Paradox)!!! Back then Bmore was a helluva city to party in... Now it's dead as fukk....All of the promoters and club owners are catering to the misguided Youngins of today.....They have absolutely have NO CLUE!!! BMore Stand Up!!!!!!!
Big up to Waverly, Bmore. My parta town. I agree 100% that it's a damn shame this danceable, lively music vibe is dead and gone, especially in Bmore. 👍
I pray that all works out for him, and I hope and pray that people are not judging him. People need to stop judging, and know that it can happen to anyone. Make sure we learn to pray for one another!!
Me: "Yo man, we're going downtown to Nikki's, what's up?" Col.:"I've gotta cut this record right quick" (he made it there before us) LOL. He was a funny dude. We still laugh about it today.
Wow !!! Thanks so much for this high fidelity & HD transfert !!! (This extended version is unavailable on any CDs & so rare !!!) It would be great if you can upload the dub mix & acappella with the same quality !!! Cheers from France
R.I.P. & this song reminds me of my beloved Drakkar Noir back then.😄

His voice reminds me of Teddy Pendergrass when he sang fast songs.
