There are some really good singers in 2022 they're just hard to find. As good as Jocelyn Brown, well I don't know about that, Jennifer Hudson and Fantasia Barrino are cut from this era though. This song is just so amazing, it's timeless. I'm from this era so I appreciate what you're saying.

This is such a great song! Yes, I was in college when this came out. Amazing! By the way I just want to make a couple of points. When us older folk (and some young ones) say contemporary music sucks today, this is what we mean. The "artistry" and talent required to come up with a track/song like this is way more demanding of a singer/musician than any rap/hip hop song can demand of any rapper. Furthermore, anybody can learn how to use "ProTools", sample some old disco songs, and rap profanity on top of it and call themselves a musician. However, you cannot take six weeks of piano lessons and be able to play like Stevie Wonder! That's the difference! Lastly, back in the 60s, 70s, and 80s, we did not have to go and "look" for good music. Stevie Wonder, Lionel Richie, Prince, Jocelyn Brown and many, many more were all on the mainstream Billboard charts with great songs! All we had to do was turn on the radio, and they were all around us! That's the difference. Peace!
+Sam Aduampoma TRUE DAT BRO. But, I still like Tupac and Bones, Thugs-N-Harmony. Plus, some of their female background singers have nice vocals too. Much love.
What a great song. WHY can't producers and artists listen to these songs are realize they still sound good after 30 years and do the same thing again?? There's a guy rap version that I cannot find. It's his reply and I think it's called somebody' else's girl.
+djharryg Do you realize that in the 80's, there were people who said the same about the 60's classics, and in the 60's, people longed for the music from the 40's. I have music from all decades, and I know that all different genres evoke different emotions to the listeners. There's a time and place for everything, and it'd be unfair for me to compare, 18th century *classical* music, to rock and roll from the 50's, or opera, to Jazz from the 30's, etc. In reality, people who say that music nowadays has gone down the gutter are those who have no relationship with contemporary music, and who were left behind. Their only exposure to it is with the white noise of the top 40, and they make no effort to go past it and educate themselves in the masterful creations of the last decade (musical prodigies never stop existing, in the late 19 century you had the likes of Debussy, in the 40's you had Billie Holiday, in the 70's you had the Carpenters, and now you have Agnes Obel, Late Night Alumni, and Melody Gardot, amongst others). Trust me, there is good music out there, and if you get past the nostalgia of your childhood, you'll see that. Oh, and even by 80's standards, this was in no way the BEST of songs, the intro is a tad over the top (don't get me wrong, I love this song).
I hadn't thought of this song in 20 years but once the first three notes dropped I remembered every riff and every word. I've got this on loop, it's making me happy as I have a massive 80s in Houston, TX flashback!
Truer words were never spoken...this song just makes the listener joyous even with the subj cause it just won't work with SOMEBODY ELSE'S GUY..boo hoo!!

I-I-I-I... can't get off my high horse

You are the one who makes me feel
So real
Yeah yeah yeah
Oh! What am I supposed to do
Oh! What am I supposed to do baby
When I'm so hooked up on you
Then I realise
Oh I realise
That you are somebody else's guy
Oh yeah
Why you wanna do this to me boy?
(Ooh ooh ooh
Somebody else's guy)
Can you remember the times we spent together
Sharing our days in the sun
Then I found out that you were somebody else's
lover
After all the plans we made, now were shattered
Still I can't get off my high horse
I can't let go
You are the one who makes me feel so real
Ooh what am I supposed to do
When I'm hooked so on you
Then I realise that you're somebody else's guy
That day in September, I'm sure you can remember
That's when all the stuff hit the fan
You told me a lie and you didn't have an alibi
But baby yet I still cared
You know I loved you so baby that I can't let go
no, no
You are the one who makes me feel so real
Ooh what am I supposed to do
When I'm hooked so on you
And realise you're somebody else's guy
You know I loved you so baby that I can't let go

+djharryg i like this a LOT. Can you give me other artists similar to this?
Quem curtiu, curtiu....

I hadn't thought of this song in 20 years but once the first three notes dropped I remembered every riff and every word. I've got this on loop, it's making me happy as I have a massive 80s in Houston, TX flashback!
