- Taped from a TV show back in 1987, possibly "The Today Show". Jane Pauley interviews Stanley Jordan. Stanley explains his two handed tapping technique, then goes on to play a song by David Gates of Bread, "The Guitar Man". I don't think it is on any of his albums. A big thanks to my friends at TedGreene.Com for filling in the blanks for me.
I've been looking for this for a long time; thank you for the post. Stanley Jordan is incredible.
When Stanley Jordan explains how he makes mistakes on the guitar, I'm not sure if I should laugh or cry. So I just remain sitting there in a state of shock and awe.
His brain! His hands independence! First time I saw him, on a video, I almost fainted. Stanley is so awesome!

"And you don't do that"
"Well, I do, I just did"
lol
First time I saw Stanley Jordan was on the Johnny Carson Tonight Show. I literally stopped in my tracks and watch this guy turn guitar playing upside down. I quickly went out and bought every album or whatever he records for my collection. He's just so damn interesting to watch. Thanks for the upload!
Genius! Amazing take on Guitar Man by Bread.
Can one human on this earth tell my there are only 163 views on this? What a genius.
And out of those 163, someone hit the thumb down button! Go figure!
This guy is the best. Just amazing and I wish I could play 1/32 of how he can. The technique is incredible.
Guitar Man is on his Standards, Volume 1 LP. He's a god.
God bless Stanley Jordan
Genius........
I VE CHOOSE the way of stanley since i nve seen him AT 1987 BARCELONA
But you dont do that....well i do ... i just did. Savage
👏🏿👏🏿
can anyone tell me if he uses pull offs with the right hand while descending or just hammer ons while descending or both.Cheers
Both. Depends what what hes playing with his left
It’s very possible to do descending hammer ons. Having stupid and I mean stupid low action helps. Like 2/64 high e 17th fret and 3/64 low e with almost no relief.
There is two guy who plays like him...they both played cover of joe satriani song always with me but this guy is way better than them....his brain aaaaahhh
Is that a Travis bean?!?
Yes, it is!
What on earth is a piano doing inside a guitar?!?!?
Yes he was an absolute genius in his technique/but much too plinky a sound for my taste/is it the music or the difficulty in achieving it that matters ???!!!###
Better than Ed, I think not !!
She seems a bit fake
She is a fake. I don't like this woman. She knows nothing of music.
The best thing she did was to say, "Why don't we just listen to Stanley Jordan".
Jordan is an extraordinary guitarist.
Yeah Stanley was pretty good I guess but to me it just doesn't sound very musical now Michael hedges is a musical player with two-handed tapping and everything in between
I remember seeing him play at the Universal Ampitheater, and after about five tunes, the "wow" factor wore off and the tone produced was fatiguing to my ears. STILL a great benefit to know we can use BOTH HANDS to produce rich harmonies on the guitar much like a piano player.
