    The depth gauge has been so helpful, best I’ve seen out there for a simple job. I get so many compliments on the textured background, and always give credit to y’all. But have begun to use the 1/4” spiral upcut to give better definition to letters. Its a great combo!

    Thanks for the bit training video. Can you sharpen the round over bit? I occasionally use the upcut bit for inset letters. What are the disadvantages of using it vs. the 60D bit?

    • @oldave100
      @oldave100  2 года назад +1

      Yeah, we can sharpen the roundover bit. The upcut bit gives a 90 degree cut as opposed to the V groove, which makes tear out more likely and it can catch on the sander a little more.

    Just finished making a little sign for my garage, I spray painted it then sanded it. Do you think putting a burnt finish with a torch will mess with the spray paint?

    • @oldave100
      @oldave100  5 месяцев назад

      If you pass over the paint quickly, it won't hurt it, but if you leave the flame on there for any period of time it'll definitely show

    Hey Eric, I've watch you prep your boards once some time ago. I thought you sealed the board before placing letters to help with bleeding. I made a sign years ago after watching your video. I can't find the video now. Did you use to seal the wood before carving? Thanks for your help

    • @oldave100
      @oldave100  5 месяцев назад

      Hey buddy, we seal the pine boards sometimes because they're more likely to bleed but not very often. We probably should but half the time we forget to

    What is “inset letters “?

    • @oldave100
      @oldave100  4 месяца назад +1

      Inset is where you carve the letters into the board, as opposed to carving around them and making them stand out.
      Does that make sense?
