    Thank you for this extremely interesting video. I find the simultaneously screened before and after views to be very helpful in understanding the lay of the land especially as I am not a local. Great video and I look forward to your next video.

      Thanks for your endorsement of the video style. I thought a few more may have commented, but you are the first. I can only assume that the punters are happy with it.
      Next week will probably be a tram versus bus comparison in Sydney, the following week probably Melbourne’s tram 6.

      @tressteleg1 I look forward to your next video which will be interesting especially as I drove buses in Sydney for almost 50 years. It is interesting to know that the running time allocated to buses between Circular Quay and Railway Square in the 1980's was virtually the same as the time allocated to the trams in 1958.

    I visited the worksite in Dandenong in July 2022 after the duplication was completed but while the spur for the Port Rail Shuttle was still being built.

      Well in a year or two when the line is finished and I do a follow-up video, no doubt that will have been working for some time.

    • @msg5507

      A spur line into an intermodal terminal that's being built in Dandenong South, where container freight can be moved from the port and then distributed from the intermodal terminal. Google "Port Rail Shuttle" because RUclips doesn't like links being left in comments.

    Are there plans to extend the line? The old Gippsland Railway was longer.

    • @tressteleg1
      @tressteleg1  Год назад +2

      It actually went to Leongatha and unless there is some decent sized town not too far away, re-extending the line is unlikely.

      There is a lot of talk about extending to Clyde because of the amount of development down there, but no firm plans yet. According to the big build Cranbourne Line Upgrade community update - September 2019, the project is "paving the way for a future rail extension out to Clyde." The Libs actually promised to fund it at the last election.

    Will you ever get any footage of either the Pakenham or Cranbourne (or Sunbury in the future) line from a HCMT? That would be pretty cool since I haven't seen any footage from the cab of one of them on here yet.

    • @tressteleg1
      @tressteleg1  Год назад +3

      I don’t know if my driver has been trained to drive those trains yet. Bit by bit that entire line is being isolated from the rest of the network so it’s possible that when the metro tunnel opens the line will be totally independent and possibly operated by someone besides the Metro company. So it will depend on which side of the fence he intends to work for, if the split happens. Whether HCMT trains will work elsewhere, I don’t know.

    Good to see how labor governments invest in infrastructure, after many years of neglect from the liberals, Rupert Hamer and Henry Bolte, the later did not do much for rail improvements

    • @tressteleg1
      @tressteleg1  Год назад

      That tends to be the trend, however for better or for worse, it was the New South Wales liberals who put a lot of money into trams and especially metros. Some have suggested that we can thank Hamer and Bolte for saving Melbourne‘s trams as they were too stingy to buy replacement buses. They wanted the money spent in regional parts of Victoria.

      Unfortunately for us on the Glen Waverley line “Teflon Dan” didn’t have any works, other than the Toorak Road overpass, done. Still have rail crossings at High Street Glen Iris, Tooronga Road Tooronga, Glenferrie Road Kooyong and Madden Grove Burnley. Stuff all votes for the Labour Party here but they choose to spend our tax dollars removing rail crossings in the back blocks passed Dandenong, out towards Cranbourne and Pakenham. And before any negative responses, we lived for almost 10 years in Langwarrin so I know what I’m talking about.
