Liszt’s final Transcendental Etude paints the picture of a snowstorm, beginning peacefully with flurries of snowflakes ❄️, and climaxing violently with enormous gusts of wind and freezing cold 🥶. Tremolos are sustained in both hands, creating a wall of sound that captures the density and force of the winter storm. Even though nature can be beautiful, humanity is ultimately at the mercy of the elements.
It‘s kind of a shame how the majority of the comment section is just asking for new pieces, instead of appreciating this amazing performance. Amazing work by the way, can barely imagine how many countless hours this took to play with such greatness.
*Composer:* Franz Liszt *Composition:* Transcendental Etude No. 12 Liszt was a composer, pianist, and music teacher. This piece is very beautiful. It has the programmatic title "Chasse-neige" (impetuous wind which raises whirls of snow), and is the 12th and last of the Transcendental Etudes. The étude is a study in tremolos but contains many other difficulties like wide jumps and fast chromatic scales, and it requires a very gentle and soft touch in the beginning. Ferruccio Busoni stated the étude was the "noblest example, perhaps, amongst all music of a poetising nature." He described the work as "a sublime and steady fall of snow which gradually buries landscape and people".
