Some words in Portuguese have similarity to my Bahasa Indonesia language like:
Sapato we say Sepatu,
Dado > Dadu,
Igreja > Gereja,
Banco > Bangku,
Bandeira > Bendera,
Queijo > Keju,
etc makes it interesting for me to learn
The Portuguese were the first European people with which the Indonesians had contact, in the 16th century. Many of those words come from this contact and have a Portuguese origin.

Since the most difficult part of learning Portuguese is to understand people when they talk it would be great to have some conversations between 2 persons in your videos. With subtitles. @@marioalvesbrasil sim, é verdade! Nós não gostamos muito, porque houve algumas coisas que nos pareceram bastante aleatórias. Eu como professora, posso dizer que entendo a tentativa de uniformizar a língua, no entanto penso que não seria necessário, já que as línguas são mais ricas quando têm mais variação. Como cidadã, não gostei mesmo nada, pois tive que reaprender muita coisa hehe! Os hífens é o pior! 😆
@@marioalvesbrasil Isto seria motivo para uma longa conversa mas tem toda a razão Romário! Há muita gente em Portugal que não suporta o AO imposto por meia dúzia de "iluminados" e por um criminoso (o ex-PM de Portugal José Sócrates)! Um exemplo foi a supressão de consoantes não articuladas, por exemplo a eliminação do C antes de consoantes. A presença do C tinha por função abrir a vogal anterior. No português brasileiro vocês pronunciam todas as vogais, átonas ou tónicas; no português europeu temos tendência para comer as átonas, daí a necessidade do dito C. Mais, agora não se diferencia FATO (peça de vestuário) de FACTO (evento) pois de acordo com o AO ambas se devem escrever da mesma maneira. Depois há o uso do hífen, enfim é um nunca mais acabar de confusões, na minha opinião, desnecessárias! Interessante que os falantes de inglês ou espanhol nos vários países anglófonos ou de língua espanhola, respectivamente, nunca sentiram necessidade dessas forçadas uniformizações das versões diferentes (e há tantas) da mesma língua!

Mia, just a few comments on an excellent video with very clear pronunciation!
Any particular reason why examples are missing for the sound of C and G before the vowel U? Such as in "cúmulo", "cueca" or in "gutural", "gula", respectively.
The C with "cedilha", Ç, is so common in Portuguese words that it would deserve mention even if it's not part of the alphabet. Analogy with the French...
O K, Y and W are not really letters of the Portuguese alphabet but, as you said, used only in words of foreign origin.

Yes, I didn’t mention it because it’s the same as in English, I guess (I’ve done this video already a while ago..) and the ç could have been mentioned, but as it doesn’t belong to the alphabet I didn’t do it here. Why I pronounced like [a] here?

its cause of the dumb orthography reform we had in the last decade. The word used to be spelled "acção" - the c was silent, but it was there to let you know the previous vowel is open, same as "selecção", "baptismo", "excepção", etc. The silent c/p opened the previous vowel.

I was born and raised in New Jersey and I used to go to Portugal every Summer to visit family in the 80s and 90s.
Those letters weren't in the Portuguese alphabet back then.

I have a question about s. Can it also sound like shhh even if it is not at the end?
Is it alright if I have a heavy Spanish accent? Haha I'm struggling with the shortherned or almost silent vowels as well as the French-like sounding "R"

You say that the letter D is always pronounced the same way no matter its position within a word. Yet I have the impression that when D is placed at the beginning of a word (or a sentence), and also after L and N within a word, it is pronounced rather similar to a French or German D. Otherwise, placed between vowels or after R and S, it's pronounced almost like the smooth English TH, as in raTHer, faTHer, etc.
Olá 😊 thank you for your comment 😊 phonetically it’s represented just as the “normal” d I talk about, but of course in Portugal there might be some slight variations, depending on the area and so on. I see what you mean. And you are right that if you really pay attention to little nuance of the D, this can happen 😊 but officially the D is only pronounced one way 😉 hope this helps!
It depends on the accent. Mia comes from the North, like my parents, and you are right : she clearly pronounces those D between vowels like english TH (or very similar). In Lisbon, the same doesn’t happen: they always pronounce D the same way, even between vowels (very « strong » like in french; it sometimes sounds like T to me 😅)
its not pronounced the same between vowels, its closer to a "th" sound, like the sound in "the".

Uma pergunta, em Portugal se diz “cimeira do G7” (gê sete) ou “cimeira do Guê 7)??? Se é Gê7, por ensinaste apenas “guê” e não “gê”??? Um estrangeiro ao escutar notícias da euronews, por exemplo, nunca vai escutar que há um grupo chamado Guê 7 (G7) vai sempre escutar Gê7. Sei que nas escolas em Portugal há uma tendência em ensinar apenas “Guê” apesar de em várias situações como a que mencionei a letra soar “gê”
Sim, é verdade que pode soar como gê e esse exemplo que deste é uma exceção em que a letra aparece sozinha. Tirando este exemplo, não me lembro de mais nenhum em que a letra apareça assim sozinha. Ao dizer “guê” e não “gê”, estou apenas a mencionar o nome que damos à letra, se bem que eu sei que hoje em dia também há quem ensine que se lê como gê. Eu não aprendi assim e sei que há muita gente que não aprendeu assim e que diz guê. Acho que essa é a forma mais usual. Mas isso é apenas o “nome” que damos à letra. Mas mesmo tendo esse nome, pode ter muitos outros sons. Senão também seria difícil dar nome a letras como o “A”, porque ela lê-se de

@@MiaEsmerizAcademy na verdade também se diz “Gê 20”, no futebol o grupo é “Grupo Gê”, a DGS é “DêGêS” e abundam exemplos... aliás se fores no Priberam e no dicionário da Porto Editora on-line e colocares “gê” aparece como “nome da letra G”... veja adoro o trabalho que fazes e sei que em Portugal atualmente os professores ensinam “Guê” muitas vezes, então não é uma constatação ao que disseste nem a ti, és uma excelente professora, é apenas partilhar contigo que mesmo não sendo fundamental para um nativo saber que em siglas muitas vezes o G é mesmo Gê, afinal o nativo fala “gê” nas siglas e nem se dá conta, para um estrangeiro por sua vez pode ser complicado entender porque tantas vezes é falado “gê”, porque é reconhecido “gê” como nome oficial, e porque mesmo assim ele aprendeu diferente. Pelo que um amigo me explicou, a razão das escolas estarem a ensinar “Guê” em vez de “gê” seria para ter uma diferença didática maior em relação ao “jota”, o problema dessa atitude nas escolas é que de facto o g e j não têm diferença sonora nenhuma em infinitas palavras. Não sei se sabes, mas é justamente por essa razão que em italiano o “j” foi banido é daí que se escreve “giorno” e não “jorno”, é “Giulia” e não “Júlia”, etc... mas uma vez parabéns pelo trabalho e esta é apenas uma crítica construtiva, não macula em nada o excelente trabalho que tens desenvolvido.

@@MiaEsmerizAcademy acabei de assistir uma publicidade da 5G da NOS, e lembrei-me de ti, 5G também se diz 5 Gê haha yah nas escolas atualmente costumam ensinar “Guê”, o que é estranho pois na maioria das vezes que precisamos mencionar uma sigla com “G” quase sempre o pronunciamos “gê”

@@andreluiz6023 Obrigado por partilhar. É interessante (e complicado). Para complicar ainda mais, parece-me que estas tendências de uso de emojis nem sequer são iguais entre Portugal e Brasil. Conheço vários adolescentes em Portugal que continuam a usar emojis de riso, por exemplo.
Só resta compreender porque no Brasil usam o som "ká" para a letra K. O original grego era "kappa", em Portugal mantém-se como "kapa". fiel ao original. Sabe porque no Brasil abreviaram para "ká"? Fiz uma busca mas não encontrei nada.
