"Do something today to make tomorrow us happy." Amen! I'm in my 50s and a caregiver. Several years ago, while living in with a 95 and 75 yr old mom and daughter w/Alzheimers and other health issues, I decided to be KIND to MY 75 (and 95) yr old self starting NOW (then) by being more health conscious (diet, exercise, mental health)!
I love it that you said this is who I am, I am a mom… That’s my very heart and soul as well. It feels kind of scary when your kids leave home, but then the grandchildren come, and you realize all over again, this is who I am. Grandma - I was a good mom, but I’m a pretty awesome Grandma❤️
Wow! I’ve never thought of my kids’ items as an extension of MY identity clutter, but it absolutely is. Mind blown over here. Most people who talk about this subject stop at crafts and work clothing, but for a SAHM, you’re so right.
You have been all over my house during this podcast. I dumped the junk in the refrigerator and put away clean dishes. I filled my pill boxes for the week and cleaned out my purse. I also rounded up the dirty dishes and started a shopping list. And I have the ingredients out for making French Waffles - more on that later. Whenever I have a task I don't want to do, I find one of your videos to watch while I'm doing it, so it makes it easier to do the disgusting thing. Give your craft supplies to senior centers or nursing homes. They will love it. I have some phone wire from my husband's jobs that I'm giving to girls who make bracelets and maybe other jewelry. Free supplies for them! I also keep my clean egg cartons for my young friends who raise chickens and sell the eggs. Free packaging for them! Finally, I give away my firewood to the neighbors because the woodstove is their only heat source and they can sure use it. I can't burn the wood due to COPD according to my doctor. If you think hard enough your trash can be someone's treasure.
THANK YOU!!! This sounds silly, but because you gave me permission, I am on a declutter & trash kick ( I can throw things away like the good boxes)- 10 trash bags out and a truckload for donation :) You are inspirational in decluttering. Once my house is back, I can go back to recycling. I have a long way to go, but every little bit out helps! Thank you again.
Wow. I had every intention of couch potato-ing this video, and darned if I didn't get up and empty the bathroom trash. And then I did some more stuff, and now the dining room table (my arch nemesis) is tidy. Thank you! This is life-changing motivation and help. Thank you. Also, I gave myself a goal of 400 pieces of declutter by December, (365 + last December). I think I might just reach it by my birthday in July. Thank you.
Nicks wife: As a 51yr old woman who just discovered I have ADHD and stage 4 breast cancer( cancer 2yrs ago, ADHD (CONFIRMED) 1 month ago) - I love this woman right here, shes the first one who made me feel like i finally understand- I'm not lazy and stupid, IM A LADYBUG with some butterfly habits😅 and i also WANT TO credit and SHARE THE RUclips CHANNEL: ADHD LOVE for the concept of "body doubling" for ADHD. They created it, and they have an app we all can use. If you haven't heard of them and have ADHD, YOU'RE WELCOME ✌️😁. I HAVE BINGED BOTH CHANNELS AND I finally feel i understand me and I GOT THIS❤
Thank you! Doing the hard stuff now, is the easy way out. You are a genius in highliting important messages. I like your authenticity, courage and passion. You are a very good source of motivation for me right now. I have to get rid of many things that don't serve our family any more in order to be able to live instead of being a slave of the stuff. Thank you very much! Keep up the good work!🤗
I'm having a break and a cuppa while watching this. Have mowed both lawns, cleared the drive and de weeded. Thought I'd do a quick tidy of the shed now there's nothing in the shed. Organising time in a few minutes as it's all on the lawn. Big throw pile. And did all the laundry
My house was full of identity clutter, and then it caught fire. Everything is gone. I don't have to make those hard choices they were made for me. Watching this helps me though, because I can see how I might fall into familiar clutter traps again.
Tomorrow Me thanks you, Cas, for motivating Today Me. While I listened to you I got out a contractor size bag and a regular size bag of trash, put together a small box for donation and started a load of laundry and put back clean laundry.
You're really watching through the screen here😅😂😮. I'm stuff shifting homeschool resources here and my kids are in their 30s now. Ok, it has to go!!😅😂🤣
I washed the dishes & filled a trash bag from pantry while listening to this podcast 🎉 The the 30 day declutter program is amazing, as are you! Thank you !
Ok so I got delayed by two events this morning and I was just able to get back to my bathroom and do just a bit of cleaning (Flybaby person). And I found you and Dana through the Minimal Mom. I’ve listened over and over and over but never actually did stuff with the person. All the stuff helped me so much but I have to do on my own in quiet till today. Because I had to finish up, I did it with you. It worked. Had some work done in my bathroom and had to get it back in order. Taking me forever till now. Thank you Cas.
I'm definitely the fantasy clutter person! I love, Love, LOVE crafting, and had a ton of collections for the person I fantasized about being but never had the time, space or energy to actually commit to any of my newfound hobbies. I'm moving out of state though, and that has been the HUGEST motivator for me as I really, really, really don't want to pay to move all that stuff several states away. I've gotten rid of decades worth of stuff and now everything fits in a 5' X 8' container, plus a few boxes that will go in my car. It feels neverending, but I've made massive strides toward my goal and I'm so proud of myself! Thank you Cas (and Dawn from Minimal Mom) for helping me and motivating me to get to this point!! You're the best!! 🥰🤗💖💕
I’m dealing with long COVID and everything seems overwhelming to tackle with - although I am one of the lucky ones who can walk and even work a bit. Not procrastinating is key for my everyday life and helps me to stay on top of things; -ish, that is, and honestly, I get help from sweet people, but there still is enough to do for me. So thank you, dear, wise Cass, for stressing the point of “do it now, if you can”, future me is always so happy about things she hasn’t left to do. Does this make sense? Brainfog is 🤬
Your words about identity clutter are so moving and true. I am all-in on decluttering, but those identity items are such a sticking point. Thank you for explaining why it's so difficult.
So much done during this: Finished kitchen, removed all (and old) things from bottom shelf ONLY of fridge - scrubbed it & put good stuff back. Refilled the hummingbird feeder. Replaced a lightbulb in my bedroom ceiling light. Moved over laundry. Folded/ hung/ put away the load of laundry that was in the dryer. Mentally prepared to attack my Identity Clutter!! Thanks Cas!!!! ❤ Lynel from MN
Great pep talk! I helped a friend get rid of a bunch of old clothes no longer worn & the mountain of shoe boxes crushed them to put in big bin... had room in there for old wire hangers & more clothes
Thank you for the huge pep talk! I pre-treated where the cat threw up a hairball on my bed and put that in the washer. I bought a jar of green olives, as soon as I opened them up, they were mush, but they were from a store that’s a hour away so I dumped them in the garbage and rinsed the jar and put it in the recycling bin Still working. You are a great motivator!❤❤❤
I've listened to this on repeat 6 or more times. I'm afraid I'll lose this and it's hit me so hard. This is more than motivation, it's mental help. Thank you So Much 😢
The identity clutter is a big thing for me. I identify as a reader. My RUclips channel and indeed my entire social media presence is centered on that identity but I don’t have the time to read all the books I own because I’m a mom now. This podcast is motivating me to accept the reality of my current identity. Some of the books I acquired in the past few years aren’t even books I want to keep anymore so they are clutter now. Thanks, Cas. I hadn’t thought about it quite like that before
I ate up the last couple of my Japanese candies - yay for natural decluttering - while going through this past year of payslips & bank statements, filing them properly, and then shredding the oldest year of them. It's usually something i like to do in April - with the tax year changeover - but I'd been procrastinating it 🤭 (We're renters, so landlords like to see a couple of years of financial proof you can pay rent, UK). TLDR: An inch stack of paperwork is leaving 🥳 ... Also managed to get a few expired makeup & skincare products off my dresser so that's a bonus; both visually now AND avoiding the breakouts they can cause in future 😊 ... And now I'm gonna find another "declutter with me" video to make more progress on other items/rooms 🤭
What an amazing episode! I feel as though I’ve seen a therapist! I’ve been decluttering with you for almost two years and I’ve found myself paralyzed by fantasy and identity clutter! Wow! This is a whole new me! Thank you, Cas! BTW….you look amazing!!
This was so good and SO SO helpful!!! Oh my Goodness!! Every word you shared was amazing!! Again SO helpful!!! Thank you Thank you Thank You!!! Love and Hugs ❤❤❤
I have so much i want to say to thank you ,im living with chronic illness and undiagnosed adhd, this podcast has hit the nail on the head with so many things..thank you x
Commenting before I even watch... I just saw this pop up and I literally went "Yayyyy!" because I love listening to you while getting stuff done. I've been having trouble today to keep going, and with you on my headphones I know I can get this cleaning wrapped up! Happy dance!
I had finished my tasks for today but... then I started to watch Cas and of course "she made me" do couple things more :D You motivate me so much every f-ing time! I am ALMOST disappointed with my weakness :D Kidding! almost...
Ok Cass, I knew you were speaking to me to get up so I did (after enjoying the winter sun shower). I picked up my tools and went out to demolish some rotting fencing and chopped it up for the bin, enough for a few weeks worth of pickups. Been doing a few tidy/clean things this morning inside so I tackled an old job. Was only going to do about 2 long pieces of wood but ended up getting rid of about 10. Yay. 😊
WHERE DO I START???? I love listening to you cas, your so good at making me realise that I have to much craft stuff , but it's so hard to get rid of things as I know it will cost me later , ....but....I know how much this is going to save my life once I can overcome my anxiety attacks. So I know you said do it now while I'm listening to you, and that would be cool unfortunately it's late at night here in th U.K and I'm more motivated in the morning, and now that I'm moving home it feels like it might be easier, it takes me a long time as I'm disabled and in my late 60s. But I'm gonna try x thanks cas x
while I listened to this I started a load of laundry, got my Robot vacuum cleaner going, cleaning up the dogs dishes and water bowls. thank you for helping me get motivated today!
While listening, I put away coloring supplies, and some hardware for a project we won't do today. Also cleared junk off the coffee table. Then, I made the grocery order. ❤ Thanks for the motivation, Cas! This afternoon, if it doesn't rain, I'll clean up the garden.🎉
I am just listening as i am getting ready for bed but I am so excited after moving in February I unpacked close to the last couple of boxes and decluttered some bedding. We had a carload full of stuff to Goodwill. My goal is to make a trip to Goodwill 1-2 times a month. Now i have just a few areas left to really hit hard. Im had so much clutter in our old house and way too much stuff. We decluttered a BUNCH before the move and even more since we have moved!!!
Gosh Cas… This is one of my favorite podcast episodes of yours❤ It’s taken me a long time to get to where I am now and you inspired me. I learned hoarding tendencies from my mother who was born and lived during the era of hanging onto everything. So, thank you SO much for helping me change my mindset ❤ Now I’m trying to help my daughter (17) who is into identity clutter, especially with books. 😊
Thanks Cass, I needed this push today. Have been decluttering for a couple of weeks. Yesterday I went through sentimental cards and letters and filled a black bin bag - actually leaving space in my underbed storage box! But my identity clutter is something I haven't really pondered. I'm a creative so have all the bits and bobs and although I went through my crafting supplies 3 times already, I now realise there are a handful of additional items that I really don't need. There's more I could donate, definitely, so I'll be jumping on that tomorrow. (I was going through my finances while listening to you today! :-) Wishing you a wonderful rest of your weekend.
Cass, you are soooo freaking inspiring! I took out a big box of clothes from my closet and two of those roller organizers that you hate! And you’re right, they don’t hold anything but space! Thank you from the bottom of my heart! ❤️
Thank you, Cass! I have quite a bit of closet decluttering to do. In just minutes of this video, I got three black garbage bags full of clean clothes I will never wear. Hopefully, someone else can wear these nice clothes. It was hard, but you kept me on track and I did it!
I have a room full of crafts and I can't let go 😢 but watching this video really helps, think I just mite go true my stuff and see what hobbies I am not into anymore
Cass I’m very similar to you in the sense that I shop for my fantasy self more then my reality life, one thing I’ve found to do is to think of others when I see something that makes something desired easier. Example: My in-laws were wanting to set up a play room for their grandchildren one thing they needed were size appropriate containers to store toys in, now when I’m on my phone or out in town if I find a toy organizer for a good deal I let them know. If I find something I can actually use I already have to have the space cleaned out and ready for it to be used, otherwise I don’t let myself get it. My oldest child loves to play with their toys, but can have a hard time cleaning up before moving on to a new toy set, I wanted to start doing the container method for most of the toys but I didn’t want the idea to flop on it’s face, instead I started with cardboard boxes and put most of the toys away, when my child wants a new toy (going from blocks to a character themed or dress up toy blocks) they have to put current toys away completely and correctly before the new toy can come out. That went very well for 1 month and then I felt ready to let myself make a “big investment” into something my fantasy self wanted, now it’s no longer my fantasy self but my reality self. If it hadn’t worked with the cardboard boxes I wouldn’t have made the investment in the quality storage containers but my child is now putting away toys by themselves before requesting a new toy be gotten out.
I loved this! I was up and working. I did some trash bag therapy and decluttered a desk. I gave myself permission to throw out college work that I had been holding on to just in case. Thank you!
What has helped me get rid of a lot of my identity clutter is Dana K White's container concept, as well as what you are talking about regarding things I can't use anymore. I am so glad you said that you cry sometimes when you declutter, because I have done that and felt so weak and emotional when I did. Now I feel less alone.
Thanks for the motivation and the challenge. Filled up a grocery bag with trash from random places. Will keep watching your videos. I find them so so useful!
I’m a book person, craft person and mom….oh my!!! I have been able to get rid of lots of books. I have issues with the craft stuff; I think I’m going to do everything and end up doing nothing.
Hi Cass thank you for the therappe session. I reakly enjoyed learning about fantasy clutter and i dentity clutter.... First i didnt know what that it existed or was and i didnt know it had a name... awsome....i love.the way you explained things and help me to understand the y. I too ha e adhd and sensory too. Your videos helped me in huge ways. There isnt enough thank yous.
Mercy you bless me. Jesus sent you our way. Gift to the tomorrow you and today. So thankful. Bags getting full and esteem growing as well. Easy to forget that things own us when we’re supposed to be managing things so yes Declutter, Declutter, Declutter and trash bag therapy 101 one girl you rock lady. Body Doubled with a friend today 🦋🐞 we got a lot done so thankful to Jesus for you. Blessings on you.
I am a new mom to back-to- back babies, I literally greive when I declutter the clothing they grew out of. It is heartbreaking and very difficult. I don't think I'm ready to part with a few select items, like the first onesie my first-born wore when he was born. It was the happiest moment of my life. Just seeing him there in those little jammies...I have feelings I can't let go of. For me, it's more than this mom identity, but a tangible token of the memory of the gift of my son. Similar feels with my daughter's first knitted hat. It's like I'm freezing a moment in time and if it's not tangible I could forget. I try to detach from most things, but mom stuff is REAL. I have let go of so much stuff over the years...but I think it is okay for me to hold onto those choice items.
Dear Cass, I was saving this podcast for few days, waiting for the right moment to declutter( when my kids are sleepung but I still have energy left). I did just great today! I feel like supehero😂 Thank you Cass!
I'm just starting decluttering...this video helped so much! I filled 2 garbage bags and a donation bag❤ I definitely struggle with identity clutter...not sure when I can let go of my children's things but alittle at a time.
I really, really needed to find this. Thank you. I have your book, but haven’t read it because I’m scared. A podcast is, for some reason, less scary. So, we’ll start here. Thank you!!
I decluttered so many hard things this past weekend. I lost 85lbs and still find it a bit difficult to let the bigger clothes go. I also decluttered dishes and cups im not using. Not sure why its so hard. Thank you for this.
I was having troubles about 3 months ago, couldn't sleep, and rearranged my kitchen cabinets, getting rid of lots of stuff. My apartment is so small, and I have so much furniture and shelving units, that walking through it is like walking in a brook! It's not safe or sane! I love the concept of "Future me"!!! I am also pretty unattached from my true likes and dislikes, like you mentioned as Fantasy Clutter! It could be I get think I think I should, instead of doing something more creative. Maybe the true test would be, could I make something of value with it (financial or sentimental) or actually sell the stuff? Also, my new plan is to simplify to what I use and really 💕 love
25:00 For me a lot of the clutter I had was books and other things that belonged to my brother. After he died no one really wanted any of it but no one wanted to throw it away and I ended up with most of it because even if they did take something - they handed it over to me a few years later as the memory carrier. It took me decades to get rid of those things. It is an identity and because he is gone, emotionally I question myself a million time before I throw it out.
I got rid of 4 trash bags worth of stuff while listening to this. Thank you! ❤
Wow! Congrats
You need to write a book called "How to Be Your Own Best Friend." Seriously, the things you say just in this one podcast is pure gold.
and make it part coloring book, such as the first letter of each chapter, to keep our hands busy and to keep a pen/ color in hand. ;) Engagement. :)
“Little mini bullies disguised as fantasy” LITERALLY 🤯 WOW. That applies to so many things too! Just wow!
🐝I have discovered "buying the supplies" and "using the supplies" are two VERY different hobbies :P ;)
the boxes and drawers full of them in my flat and attic are a testament to that 🙈
😂 true
Hahaha
I like to joke that my yarn reproduces on its own but we all know who is guilty here 😂
@@EveryPeachInReach Oh, I hear you there! Yarn and fabric... it just breeds all on its own!!! I swear!!! ;) lol
This is my favorite kind of podcast that you do. You give it to us straight and tell us to get our butts up and get to work!
She has a gift! :) LOL
Literally came here for the butt kick!!

Finally got the ball rolling on my decluttering journey. It’s been tough because nobody teaches you this stuff while growing up.

Identity Clutter... thank you, Cas, for the explanation. I had no idea that's what that was and why I struggled to get rid of it! 🎉

WOW… this cuts deep 🥺, but it is so important to hear. Thank you, thank you, thank you; you have literally saved lives with this. God bless you. 💖
I actually got up with a garbage bag and threw away and decluttered in and around my nightstand during the podcast. I do feel better!! 😊
💜🙌

My decluttering for the day?
Dropping off 3 bags of clothes....and 1 box of miscellaneous!
Thanks Cass! ❤
Body doubling/Decluttering with someone else is so effective and fun!
Your words about identity clutter are so moving and true. I am all-in on decluttering, but those identity items are such a sticking point. Thank you for explaining why it's so difficult.

This was really helpful for my mindset to let go of pastt items that I no longer care to use, and not keep it due to guilt.
Great pep talk! I helped a friend get rid of a bunch of old clothes no longer worn & the mountain of shoe boxes crushed them to put in big bin... had room in there for old wire hangers & more clothes
Thank you so much for motivating me today, cleaned out another cabinet and working on a huge garage declutter project! ❤

Gosh Cas…
This is one of my favorite podcast episodes of yours❤
It’s taken me a long time to get to where I am now and you inspired me. I learned
hoarding tendencies from my mother who was born and lived during the era of hanging onto everything.
So, thank you SO much for helping me change my mindset ❤
Now I’m trying to help my daughter (17) who is into identity clutter, especially with books.
I got so much done today!!! Thank you for helping me. I can’t express my gratitude for you. You are truly a blessing to me. Thank you
Such a moving video...I got teary-eyed during the identity clutter section. Thank you for your gentle and inspiring message, Cas ❤
This is an amazing video! Now I know the “why” when it’s hard to let go. Thank you Cass💜
Compounded kindness to (ourselves) does make every day better❤️
YES!! I always load the dishwasher and set the delay timer, then start a load of laundry before I do any other cleaning.
Thank you for this video! 😊 had an aha moment. Needed this.
18:30...as they start to grow..... (cue the tears, this is so spot on)
Thanks Cass, these podcasts are so helpful when I need to just get up and doing and you talk me through it!
My butt’s on fire! I can’t sit down! Made me chuckle. 😅❤
You're amazing Cas 🙌 thank you for the truth & the push! You rock 🙌💜

Body Doubled with a friend today
🦋🐞 we got a lot done so thankful to Jesus for you. Blessings on you.
This is a really great podcast. So true!
Yep, I went through that as a teacher. I am not going to be teaching again. I recently parted with much of my teaching resources.
The whole time you talked about identity clutter, I kept thinking it’s my fantasy-self clutter that is worse.
I feel like supehero😂
Thank you Cass!
Love that!
Cass! I paused the podcast to google stainglass classes near me. 😂😂😂
So relatable, Cass. Thank you❤
I'm just starting decluttering...this video helped so much! I filled 2 garbage bags and a donation bag❤
I definitely struggle with identity clutter...not sure when I can let go of my children's things but alittle at a time.
I'd love to hear more about the different types of clutter. Very interesting.
This video is pure gold 💯
Mini bullies… love that term. Although I consider myself a minimalist I am always learning more. ❤ Thank you!
3 garbage bags later. I feel so much better. Thank you.
I really, really needed to find this. Thank you. I have your book, but haven’t read it because I’m scared. A podcast is, for some reason, less scary. So, we’ll start here. Thank you!!
Love you, so many thanks ❤
I decluttered so many hard things this past weekend. I lost 85lbs and still find it a bit difficult to let the bigger clothes go. I also decluttered dishes and cups im not using. Not sure why its so hard. Thank you for this.
Thanks CAS! I really needed you today 😊
Fantasy clutter also applies to having clothes that are too small in your closet
Fantastic episode, thanks!❤
Thank you so much. I use you're you tube video to motivation.
OMG! Who knew? Fantasy clutter? Is that why I have a weaving loom hanging in my closet. Never used it!!!
6:04 My favorite part 😂
"Like a CRAZY person! Like your BUTT'S on fire!!" 😂
Thank you so useful so me I’m learning so much 🙏🙏🥰🥰
Thank you! Great content.
THANK YOU so much!!!
