What a pleasure it is to listen to a rich-toned, full-voiced Mimì sometimes! I wouldn't have thought Willis-Sorensen's lush, darkish and thick voice would fit Mimì very well, but this rendition is just wonderful, full of energy, emotion, sincerity, and the voice has a vibrancy and richness that allows Mimì's phrases to bloom to a climax in a wonderful way, in a seamlessly linked thread of notes. I also loved her unaffected, yet very moving and, above all, honest approach to each phrase of this great operatic moment.
Bravo to Rachel Willis-Sørensen! This gave me goosebumps. You know why this aria is so iconic? It is beautiful, yes, but I don't think that's the only reason. Rodolfo asked a question and is listening very closely to what Mimi has to say. He's not interrupting her, not helping her out in any way. His focus is completely on her, although she's telling him everyday information about herself. They are so respectful and kind towards each other, it's heartbreaking. That's why this scene feels so tender. The focus is all on her, Mimi, who perhaps has not had many encounters in which she was able to share her thoughts and opinions. That's why La Bohème is the most famous and loved opera, in my opinion. There are so many mundane, yet vulnerable scenes that still resonate with the audience today. Such a timeless piece!
What a pleasure to hear a larger voice that's solidly on the breath so there is no wobble. The color isn't artificially darkened and is a beatiful burnished gold. Brava!
I did not enjoy this at all. Someone mentioned her on another channel alongside a sporano I quite like, so I was hoping for something good. Which this is not. Very hollow, unpleasant sound, tongue is in her throat, voice is placed too far back and not forward. The acting doesn't suit the part at all, would be better for Musetta. Very disappointing.
Why did she feel the need to delete comments that do not suit her whim? I mean if she would know how ti sing, if she would be in absolute control of what she is doing, than she would not even flinch about criticism on youtube, because she would know better. I mean this is not how anything works on this planet. You cannot improve if someone dosent correct you out. She has no legato, no support, screams, is all over the registers, a wrongly developed mezzo soprano, etc.. Just terrible.
Phew! So glad you’re here. Here she is winning awards and competitions left and right, getting booked by the world’s leading opera houses, and has a perpetual waiting list to get into her voice lessons-how wrong we were, and incredibly lucky to have you “correct her out” with such a constructive, considerate critique before we were led astray again. Sadly, world renowned opera stars often forget to check the comment section of their youtube channels for the most solid career advice and pedagogy you can find anywhere. Again, thanks so much, and please direct us where to watch your singing/voice lesson videos!
@@mackabrack Winning awards and singing in the Met opera is not an achievement, since we all know what kind of singers win and get hired. It is more or less a negative sign, that a singer is there because of her looks or he/she has red knees. You know what i find sad that people, who comment on youtube, know actually more about singing than those "stars". And that mainstream masses that know nothing about the art of singing support such trash. As i said, if she would know what she would doing, if she could sing, this conversation would never even happen. But since she is so afraid of a truthful comment, so paranoid, or mabey is so full of herself, she delets comments. Because it is easier to live a lie, than to acknowledge the bitter and sad truth. But since you know more about singing, because you defend her, please enlighten me on her technique. You are defending someone so i assume that you defend her, based on your knowledge, that you acquired throughout your years and, that you have valid points. I want real objections not some made up stuff. Please, do tell.
Golly, tempting offer but I’m gonna say hard pass. You need more attention than I can or care to give you, and would rather not go on pretend trial to justify why I love this artist to a random dude on the internet. SO, seeing as I’ve already stepped in this steaming pile (I never have been able to stomach a bully-whoops!) let’s conclude by pretending like we went back and forth on our little keyboards for days, and at the end of it all, you STILL didn’t convince me of your viewpoints. Cuz that’s what would’ve happened. You’ve answered all of my questions of what you’re really doing here if you’re not a fan-hint: we’re doing it right now-so with that, have a great weekend and I hope you find something that brings you happiness, beauty and validity:)
@@mackabrack You are not able to defend your statement which is: "She is a good singer". This means you do not know what you are talking about, have no clue what it is all about, and are a liar, a charlatan, a dishonest person. You are not able to provide a single word on what basis you judge her. Why? Because you do not have a clue about vocal technique. Telling that you like someone/something does not equal good! You always need to substantiate why you think like you do. This is how things work in this planet. Have you not learned anything in school? Even more, i am judging her on an objective level, which can always be measured and/or put to test or in this case heard. I do not care if i convince you, i know i am right. And since you were unable to defend what you are saying means, your word is worthless.

Mimi is heavier than people realize. A lot of middle voice singing, and not a lot of notes above the staff.

Never saw that true ideas shown so intense before. Rachel/Mimi and Jonas/Rudolo falling in love; wonderful and heartbreaking !
What a beautiful comment, food for thought indeed! Thank you
Your comment brought me to tears

Besser geht es nicht,!!
Bravo fru Sørensen - du kan de høje toner uden at vibrere for meget - de går klart igennem. Smukt og kraftfuldt på én og samme gang.

This is full-throated singing and uses a proper release. I’m curious to know what deficiencies you hear.
