I remember doing all of the b sides before doing chapter 9 without knowing they were required. So getting to the wall and seeing it evaporate INSTANTLY was possibly one of my hypest moments in gaming history.
The last screen of this level was literal hell, the game even gives you encouraging words after dying a lot of times. If you beat this level, doesn't matter if you died 100, 1000 or 10000 times, you are a true gamer.
You don't know true Hell if you haven't tried to go for the Moon Berry, the final room alone must have taken me ten hours. The entire Dark Souls trilogy didn't ONCE bring me so close to ragequitting.

I had already cleared all the base content before playing farewell since I assumed it was going to be post c-side difficulty, and the gate showing up and immediately opening was pretty validating, ngl.

It was great for me since I got everything beforehand from just my instincts excluding the normal golden berries. I did have the flying one for level 1.

I see this wall as more of a warning than a requirement: Farewell WILL kick your ass, and the B and C sides are good training for that. Of course, if you're already skilled enough, you can just bypass the wall with a fast wavedash, which rewards the experienced
Funny because I started Farewell with only 3 B-sides done. I got a bit frustrated by the halfway point of the 3rd subchapter so I left it there and decided to beat the rest of the B and C sides. It was absolutely worth it both for the hearts and the skill
I've been enjoying the Celeste streams so much, i hope he can be the first of many big streamers to get into it 🙏 I *was* quite concerned when he said that he was going to Farewell before B/C sides though 😅
Good rule of thumb is to finish all the C-Sides before Farewell. Because damn that chapter was so damn hard. But I do love how it uses nearly every element in the game

The hearts are stopping you because you learn stuff in the B and C sides (wavedash, wallbounce). If you already know how you can skip the gate but if you don't, the game stops you: "go learn that".

Yeah, the developers purposefully left a way to skip it, so it's not too hard to do if you know how. That being said... I wouldn't recommend doing it on a first playthrough ? Let's just say the difficulty definitely assumes you've played enough Celeste to have gotten these hearts...
Farewell is one of the hardest things Ive ever done in a video game and it made me feel a myriad of emotions, but I never got "mad" at it the same as other games, even games I consider fun and fair like Hollow Knight and Soulslikes. Idk, the game is impressively designed, I love playing it, and I immediately got what it was trying to make me feel not just with story and arr but with gameplay. I didnt pop off at the end I freakin cried.

Don't worry, PC! If I remember right, you don't have to do that whole chapter again to get there, you can load different parts of the chapter from stage select!
you can literally just come back; the start of the subchapter is right before the gate, and you can start the level from any subchapter that you have reached
because its supposed to be a warning. the 2nd half of farewell is very fucking hard, and getting the b sides done first would help with that. unless you wanna spend 30 hours on the level, its supposed to help you

you can literally just come back; the start of the subchapter is right before the gate, and you can start the level from any subchapter that you have reached
because its supposed to be a warning. the 2nd half of farewell is very fucking hard, and getting the b sides done first would help with that.
unless you wanna spend 30 hours on the level, its supposed to help you
@@thesecondeevee9754 what does that have to do with the fact that the gate only appears hours into the level? None of what you said would change if the gate was in the beginning, except that players who don’t want do b and c sides don’t waste hours of their time thinking that this level is accessible.
