Curiously, the first time I've ever heard of a hurdy gurdy was after watching one of FAUN's music vid a few years ago. After which I've found your channel while looking for hurdy songs. And now the two roads cross paths. Oh how happy I am.
This song reminds me of the Russian tales of the Rusalka; water spirits who were said to lure travelers into a river or lake to drown. I don’t know if that’s what this song is about or not, but its lyrics and melody are certainly deeper than anything I find here in American music. What great talents these two are!
Sounds a lot like La Llorona, a Mexican story about a vengeful spirit that mourns her children that she drowned so she lures children into the water to drown them. I don't think this song is about it but it is interesting that there are similar stories like that.

I am reminded of PDQ Bach's Concerto for Lute and Bagpipe. As Professor Schickele put it, "The bagpipe rarely features in orchestral pieces. It is extremely loud and can drown out an entire brass section all on its own. The lute is also rare in large compositions, as whilst it's a very attractive instrument, it is also so quiet it can be lost in the din if another instrument is in the room... whether it is being played or not. So please, admire how beautiful the lute is, as you listen to the Bagpipes.
