Great tutorial Jonathan! We are working on the in-game charts, the new vector tile technology we are using doesn't seem to be compatible with the rendering technology in MSFS. Moreover, we are suspecting that there would be performance drops in the simulator if we made it read the amount of data which is needed to display the new version of charts. We are researching this challenge and hopefully, we shall find a solution (or an alternative).
Brilliant. I have been struggling with the new version changes since yesterday but your video has helped a lot. Thank you so much. You are one of the biggest assets to the sim community.
Thanks Jonathan ! Just updated mine! Wow comes to mind ! That’s a lot more user friendly in my opinion and so easy to navigate! Good job Navigraph team ! Very impressive for sure 👍🙏🏻✈️👨✈️
Navigraph has always been an outstanding aid for simulation; "8" is a whole new level. Initially there was an issue with being required to log-in each time you minimized the program but thankfully that has been solved. A great program and well covered, Jonathan.
Reading your comment, my immediate thought was that some poor developer put some code to reset login credentials on the minimize button (to help debug something runtime perhaps), and forgot to take it out and it got by code review. Glad they fixed it.
As an amateur GIS guy this is very impressive; from the seamless integration of the base map and chart layers to the speed of the servers to the feature set and the UI--very nice!
I got a degree in GIS 3 years ago but never did anything with it (COVID hit, most professional GIS people have long tenures and there is saturation) but I keep my eyes open for GIS type things.
Jonathan, your knowledge, sequencing, clarity and on the spot honesty is commendable and very much appreciated. Thank you for helping me decide to buy the Navigraph yearly Subscription…. Cheers from CaptainREM.
Yet another excellent video from you Jonathan which clarifies a lot of the stuff I was battling with. One thing tho I was hoping you would do and that was adding the arrival, approach, and departures to the test route after the auto procedure disconnected the initial ones. But, just another thing to figure out. Anyway, great intro to something I'm sure will be very useful.
I’ve only just got into Navigraph with the basic data package but watching your excellent video I am very tempted to upgrade. What a fantastic tool this is!
Thanks so much for producing this excellent video - you explain a lot of the new features very clearly and have saved me a lot of time of "hit and miss"!
Good video, as always. I would like to see a little nav map comparison. LNM profile view is great for terrain and choosing an altitude to fly. Plus, it's free.
Thank you Jonathan! For all you do for the community as well. (We see you 😉) I think Navigraph did a great job on this new version. I am sure they will keep on improving and are listening close to the community. The only little remark I have is the logout~issue but I think there is an update already for that.
Great video Jonathan! Tremendously informative and thorough as always. I've been playing with this new update all afternoon and I think it's fantastic. I love that we can now use 'track up' (set in the 'moving maps' options), the elevation contour lines and too many other new incredible features to list. As someone who loves to fly the Bae 146 and DC-6 using traditional navigation methods, I would love to see an autoroute option/toggle added that would use only VOR and NDB's from Dept/Dest, but that's just me being lazy. Of course with the fantastic new info overlays and everything else we can toggle on and off, all that traditional nav data and victor airways can be fairly easily used to manually create those kinds of routes, though it takes a little longer, but I suppose that's all part of the fun, yeah? Also, if you visit the Navigraph forums, you'll see that the devs are very aware of the constant *log out/reauthorize* issue and a massive amount of users are experiencing this, including myself. I did a short hop from CYYZ (Toronto, ON) > KCRW (Charleston, NC) and had to re-login/reauthorize 4 times in about 1 hour and 20 minutes. Kind of annoying but the devs say they're on it and hoping to fix it quite quickly. Sadly, at the moment it's also been clearly stated by Navigraph that the bulk of these new features won't be coming to the in-game Navigraph charts anytime soon, which has obviously upset a huge amount of users, especially those who play exclusively in VR. Something to do with the new Navigraph tech using vector imagery for maps and the incompatibility of MSFS to natively work with said tech... though who knows what development trickery/genius Navigraph might come up with to get things to play nicely in the coming weeks/months. Again, most of this info I found today on the Navigraph forums while looking for a solution or explanation regarding the constant need to 'reauthorize' the native Windows/OSX apps. For any interested I'd look there for more info yourself about all that.
I'm lucky in that I don't have a long track record using Navigraph, so no "investment" as such. For those upgrading after years using early versions, I can understand their frustrations.
Your videos are top notch without a doubt, so thank you for your kind efforts. My humble comment would be there is more to the world then just Stansted and Edinburgh airports, have a good day.
Try entering your route first (EGSS/EGPH) then autoroute, then departure runway and when you select departures Navigraph will suggest the best matching departure 😍 based on your runway and route. Likewise, select arrival runway and when you select arrivals Navigraph will suggest best matching arrivals 😍 for your runway and route.
Yes - I did it backwards in the video because I was just showing functionality. It's clear to everybody that autoroute overwrites anything you have done - or that you you can click it immediately. I imagine it will appeal to those that like to get in a plane, press three buttons, and then turn the plane back off after it lands and say "did you see how well I flew that?"
Very useful Jonathan thank you. As a real world IFR pilot, it always strikes me as ironic that so much effort has to be put into detailed IFR flight planning, when, in reality, you are almost always vectored by ATC units, here and there, depending on traffic on the day. An actual IFR flight invariably has little relationship to that which was planned and submitted to ‘the system’.
Yep - I always think the same thing. In the simulator, I find myself saying again and again "here's where we can program the STAR, but we wouldn't do this in the real world until we're en-route - or we just need to be ready to change it" :)
Excellent information sir! Thanks for your time and effort in explaining the new version for us; cleared up a lot of questions I had. Good work, much appreciated.
Great video, thanks. Charts 8 plans flights without knowing the airframe. E.g. it gives me a FL380 when I want to use the Baron 58. A real simbrief-integration including airframes would be nice.
Hi all. I'm just getting around to buying Navigraph for a month and testing it out. I am not yet convinced about the usefulness of Navigraph. I currently use simBrief, Little NaVMap and ChartFox. However, I would like any flight planning to be more integral to the flight simulator itself. And this, as you know, can only be provided by Navigraph, so far, I know of no other alternative.
Interesting ! If you design a flight plan in NAVI while the aircraft is on the ground does it get loaded into MSFS ? I have a hard time getting NAVI talking to MSFS for some reason. I am currently exporting then loading into MSFS from the world menu. I dont see a way to start in a parking space using Navi. Thanks
Hello Jonathan, watched your video re tge new Navigraph 8 release very good as usal , one question do you know if you can upload a flt plan to the FMS in the Cessna CJ4 A/C On another subject how do you put in airways on the CJ4 nav syatem? Thanks for any help on these questions. Cheers Charlie
Great video thanks. Since loading Navigraph 8, my FBW A32NX experimental will not load new flight plan always reverts to the previous on the MCDU even after full reboot. Any ideas much appreciated n thanks
Great video as always! i have just renewed my subscription since early 2022 and discovered a lot of changes which you have covered well in this video! it is taking me a bit to get used to it, but i now think i will be using this every chance i get! Out of curiosity though, do you think tools like Little Nav Map and PFPX are completely redundant now if you have a Navigraph subscription? I am slowly getting back into flight sim after a long while and i was not exactly experienced with it to start with so i am still trying out all the tools to decide what i want to use. Basically, if i have Navigraph sub and Simbrief, do i need anything else? I really want to use LNM (i love it) and PFPX (still works and i love it), but this looks so good and easy to use plus being able to pull up all the required charts is essential! Thanks again!

I'll have to try this myself. I will say - simlink has got nothing to do with it. Navigraph sends the flight plan to the cloud - simlink sends your aircraft position to the cloud. So it may be that Charts 8 is not completely compatible with other clients in terms of the route. Like I said - I'll try it when I get a chance.
I have but still will not connect. I have v.1.0.12 of the NavData Centre. I can make a plan OK but on the MCD it shows FORMAT ERROR and NOT IN DATABASE

I only started paying for Navigraph after they released v8 with these added VFR tools. Well worth the money now if you fly VFR. Thanks for the video.
