  • In this video I install the Hotchkis rear sway bar on my 1970 Cuda. This sway bar is part of the TVS or total vehicle system that I bought from Hotchkis. This car never had a rear sway bar and is frame mounted. Adding new front and rear sway bars will be a huge improvement to how the car handles.

    Boy o boy you really risked your life using those cinder blocks they are very prone to breaking, so pleased it all worked out ok

    I ran my duster without the rear bar for a while and had quite a bit of understeer in the autocross. The rear bar was the only item from hotchkis that I was missing. It made an incredible difference. I ended having to move it to the firmest hole. That location will depend on how your car is set up.

      this thing didn't even have a front sway bar lol. I can't wait to get it aligned and see how it drives now!

    I put a rear sway bar in my A-bodies, but I only use Firm-Feel because they hang like the factory did them. Up & out of the way. Not only does it replicate the way Chrysler chassis engineers determined it to work best, it doesn't hang below the axle and "Tell" anything. Stealth is nice

      I have heard good things about the firm feel rear bars. Definitely a solid design

    Still watching the vid so maybe you addressed this but I would for sure check the rotors for any sort of welding junk on them. Good idea to get a weld king blanket for when you’re in tight spots and can’t take off sensitive things like those nice new brakes.

      I did look over the brakes and there wasn't any splatter....your right, looking back I should of put a blanket over them.

    When I installed my hotchkis rear sway bar I had to flip it over as well. I assume the sticker was put on wrong. It’s the only way the bar would fit right and be perfectly level with the axle tubes.

    Very nice car lots of great modifications done to it I can tell you like to do good work and it shows but you might want to get a little more welding practice in before you do any more welding on such a beautiful car not making fun of your welding because you admitted you were just learning everything else is perfect it's just too nice to not have perfect welds too that's the only thing lacking you already know when someone checks out your car that will be the first thing they pick apart your car absolutely blows mine out of the ball park on looks sure would like to trade cars with you I got a 69 valiant with a 440 in it just about got everything to put the 4 speed in it I'm retired now got a lot of time but the cash flow is a little slow thanks for sharing your videos

      Thanks for watching and glad you enjoyed them. I have always loved big block A bodies! Yeah I am not happy with the welds … but I was stuck. I don’t have any more car projects to weld. Thinking of finding another little project to practice welding on would be fun this winter

      @@backyardhotrods9885 well I'm glad you didn't take it the wrong way because I wasn't trying to insult you I'm a certified welder machinist and fabricator well I was I just retired so that kind of work is what I did every day for almost 50 years and working on mopars is my hobby if I remember you had a small welder they are harder to use than a big one is you need one that has 200 to 250 amps to weld up to a half inch but they can do sheet metal too they run hotter and arc smoother after you get good with a big welder using a smaller one will be easier it just takes practice and someone to show you how to do it right I took welding classes in high school you can learn on your own but watching someone is easier your weld looked like they penetrated because it was thin just not real pretty like a stake of dimes affect I have watched some welding on u tube and most are junk but not all but I don't remember his name sorry didn't mean to talk your head off anyway your car is beautiful and the offer to trade is still good hell if you lived by me I would come over and weld it for you take care and keep her pretty and running good thanks

    Look good but did you look at a frame suspended rear roll bar to minimise any extra unsprung weight. Thats what an AAR Cuda ran back in the day. I have a firm feel frame hung rear bar on my Valiant Pacer in Australia.

    • @backyardhotrods9885
      @backyardhotrods9885  Год назад

      I like the idea/design of those...but since I went with the Hotchkis kit I just used theirs. I can't imagine it really makes a big difference...but maybe it does.

      @@backyardhotrods9885 any reduction in unsprung is a good thing especially with consideration for damping control. Is there a measurable difference on a road car? Probably not. Are you running bearing spacers on your front wheels to take away any 'wobble' in the front wheel bearings?

    Using cider blocks is a bad idea particularly the way you’re using them the jack stands are on the weakest part

  • @davidmckinley5343

      @backyardhotrods9885  Год назад

      you know at the time it seemed like a good idea....but probably wasn't the best. It was all could come up with though. Don't think I would do it again because the jack was close to the edges of the blocks.
