I'd imagine her mentioning God at all is more controversial to the average American than her assuming things about his nature or intentions... the only people this should remotely offend is based Radical Muslims like myself and even I enjoy the song. Don't need to agree with her about feminism or anything else to enjoy her music

I think she's trying to explain how we give god such human qualities, and we claim so much for him and what he would support, believe, or "do."
for those wondering if this is completely religious, the song is actually a clear criticism to george bush while sarcastically comparing him to god himself -- supported by the lines "long before that september, long before hijacking planes" referencing 9 / 11, and the line "his favorite band is creedence clearwater revival" referencing his apparent taste in music

I'd agree, with the qualifier that it's about people who say they know what their god wants. Their god doesn't like people with black skin, or homosexuals, or poor people, or anyone, really, who doesn't fit with their specific demographic, and what a coincidence it lines up perfectly with their views. She then points out that two people who have opposing views have the same approval of the same god, and he doesn't know who's right - they both have approval of him, apparently. And then she points

This is a great song cause it wonders about the abstract idea of God. Most of us don't know what God is all about, with so many different beliefs and religions. What is right and wrong? Is he taking the piss of us? trying to make us confused?

God ALLOWS bad things to happen as a test of our devotion and love. He is incapable of making bad things happen... everything bad comes from Satan and God, like I said, only allows these things to happen because He has a reason. there is always a reason God allows bad (and good) things to happen, and you can only find that through Him and His Word.

I used to always listen to what my whole grade was listening. Like Lady Gaga or Black eyed peas, or metro station. You know the fads. But then I sumble across Smile, loved it. Checked out what else Lily allen has. LOVE ALL OF IT! SO now whenever someone asks who my favorite artist is I say Lily allen, and they say WHO? Lily deserves to be well known!
