The sining is soothing my soul regardless of the mic
Love my c414 xl 2 and my TLM 102…both through a neve style preamp sound amazing. Tames the highs on the c414.
414 punchier than avantone, Neuman punchier and much more defined than both. A great take on the avantone is going to sound better than a bad take on the Neuman. It's all relative.
0:30 1:14 1:58
noticeable difference in fourth "let it be"
My impression is that the Neumann TLM-102 is an excellent microphone, but it doesn't work particularly well on the baritone character of the voice since the brightness brings out harmonics that would be better suited with a richer, slightly darker microphone. Very cool test! The AKG is so flat -- I guess that's the point. Very different from my C214 which has a similar kind of top end brightness to the TLM.
Have you found which microphone works best for your voice in other videos? Around this price range I bet the Sennheiser MK8 would sound great
Today, we recorded video with Flea microphones. And Flea 48 SuperFet is for his type of vocal excelent. If you want, check it out. 😊 Thank you!
What pre amp used?
Hi, preamp in Audient iD44
On any one of those microphones, you could get a decent vocal. Im keeping my Avantone 🎉
It's honestly the best microphone out of the three.
Neumann takes too much the plusives and S
I’ll be honest, I don’t like TLM 102 much. For me, low mids sounds muffled.
Neumann TLM 102 and 102 are broadcast mics with "smiley-face" eq-curve
sounds to much similar......
Tlm 102 sounds more compressed to me. But Cv-12 and 414 are relatively close.
all three mics do sound really really different. you gotta long way to go when you hear no diff here.
The AKG sounds absolutely the worst! I look at lots of different mics looking forward to upgrade and after lots of tests i have to finally say - this mic ist bullcrap! lows are meh, mids to present, almost too harsch, the worst are the highs - as if there is a deesser on it, that is dialed in too much. The "S" sound is disgusting on this particular microphone. I would never buy this microphone. Nor even record my vocals through it.
The CV-12 is great, clean, not colored, but full body and the very important "S" - is so lovely silky. I would seriously concider this mic as my main new mic, when it wouldn`t have a self-noise of DAMN 17dB!!!!!
As the Neumann came in, it destroyed the other two mics - the sound added AIR. The highs became large and open, the voice wos still in the middle, but the sound got "room" or "air" left and right. Wow! It´s a big pity that Neumann TLM 102 and 103 are broadcast-microphones with the sweetening "smiley-face" response curve that gives the broadcast color. It must be horrendous to use it for recording vocals, i can imagine you will need 3 deesser in a row (lol=)
So, non of these microphones is conciderable for me - CV-12 is too self-noisy, the Neumann is a broadcast mic, the AKG sounds like a bad telephone.
Gonna go on looking. I concider the JZ BH2, but it hat the response-curve close to neumann.... i really dont know. Thought about the new Sony C80
, but elf noise is +14dB. I don´t get it hat the cheap Rode NT1-A has only a self noise of +5dB....
Listening on RME-interface.
Have you looked at the Telefunken TF29 tube mic? How would the TF29 would compare with the mics in the video?
