$15000/5months = $3000per month. $3000/75%= ($40 per 1%) * 100% = $4000 per month {dam whats her job}
It's only $48k a year. Secretarial work can get you that much. Look beyond retail and fast food and you'll learn that most Americans earn above $40k per year.
~48K/yr net is ~ 60K/yr gross. Awesome job nonetheless.
+Shawn Nichols um a starting teachers salary where I live is 35k, secretary is about 25-30k.
Everyone I know earns much more per month!
SaskiasaChristkind where do you live and what do they do? I need to relocate and change fields apparently.
I love how she's like "I moved back home with my parents"...lol. Like YEAH I could save $5000 in the Five months if I had parents to move to.
Thank you for actually describing what you did to save. Too many videos on "how I saved $$$" never actually say how they did it.
RIGHT!!! babbling on and on about nothing! First video I found that actually said something meaningful lol
That's all good if u have no responsibilities and can go home to mum and dad rent free but that's a small percentage of people
People, seriously? Clearly nobody saves that amount of money that quickly unless they make enough to begin with and can take some very drastic measures! What were you guys expecting when clicking on the video? How to save $3.000 in a month when making $1.000? Nonetheless, her tips can be very useful. Sometimes we don't realize what we can do to quickly save money. Just take what you can from it and move on.
I think another useful tip is tracking your spending (people have no idea how frivolously they spend sometimes) and not only learn to cook, but to cook cheap food. You can cook at home and still spend a lot of money on ingredients or you can cook cheap, healthy meals and cut a lot of spending there. Now I know I overspend mostly on groceries. Congratulations to you, Amanda, on sticking to your plan.
I agree, but it does sting a little when people like this say that anyone can do it
Sure, if the claim is 'I saved 15k in 5 months and so can you', then it is clearly very misleading. However, I took it as: I saved a lot of money and so can you. In this sense, a person who makes $1.500 a month and saves $700 or even $500 is saving a significant portion of their income. They would be saving a lot for their particular situation. That's how I took it.
I dont even make 15k in a year
Michelle S do you work minimum wage and part time? That might be why.
Nope I am a Personal Trainer, its commission. I make over minimum wage but since California passed that stupid law I will be making min wage soon. :/
Michelle S I used to be a personal trainer in the Bay Area. What law did the state pass?
Min Wage to go up to $15 an hour in X amount of years. But, with that rising so does my rent and bills. Its getting hard to keep up with. As min wage goes up, my pay doesn't. My job is making less money for me. Oh and they cut the ACTUAL min wage workers hours to compensate for how much extra they are getting paid for so that the business doesn't go bankrupt or lose to much money. You know where i am coming from then, as a trainer you never know what you will make. I wanted to open a small business, and it will be challenging as now its getting harder and harder to save money.
Michelle S if you work commission for the gym you are an employee rather than an independent contractor. I would suggest becoming an independent contractor so you can charge what you want. It's harder since it is your own business, but it's better than working for an employer who changes the pay structure. I also work for a corporation as a sports massage therapist. I make 25 an hour, but I don't work 40 hours a week. I was paid commission also until they changed it to hourly. I am starting my own business this year with a friend of mine. Maybe working or partnering with someone else would be easier and more motivating.
Great video. You are right, the only way to save is to stop spending. I admire your motivation, determination, and sacrifice to save for your travels. I am on the path to minimalism because I feel overwhelmed with all of the "stuff" that I have. Happy traveling!
That is awesome, I am so happy for you!! Minimalism changed my life in such a positive way, I'm sure it will help you a ton also!! Thank you so much for watching!! 💛💛💛
Oh i'm so happy you commented on one of my videos and I found you!
Love your channel Amanda! All interesting things I am interested in haha
+Elysia Raimondo awesome! Thank you!!
All what you were cutting, I never started spending on this!
*****
Exectly, nobody even spends so much money on this stuff in real life!
It depends on where you live.
Angel Lee
Yeah, you are right in this point, but she mentioned that she had many magazines at the same time, if I remember the video correctly! :D
I know girls that spend $50/week on getting their nails done. Not to mention all the makeup they buy, getting your hair done, starbucks every day, etc. She's just mentioning the stuff she stopped doing, but you could easily modify it to fit your own needs. Just cut off stuff you don't really need. People who want to travel, make it a priority and sacrifice most comforts and luxuries in order to save up to do so.
Yell, she going to quit her $75000 a year job to travel and spend all her $15000 in savings. She just made $75 on 75,000 views on her youtube channel. that's money.
can we get a video on how to make $15k in five months? because I think people would relate more
well I said in the video but basically I saved $1K per paycheck (bi-weekly) for five months, and then sold my car and a lot of my belongings :)
using wifi for everything sounds good, but you still have to pay for internet.
I would switch it around, cut the internet instead, keep the phone and use it as a wifi hotspot to get internet wherever you are.
that's what I do :) I don't have a home, I am constantly traveling, so I don't pay for wifi ever.
Key words: you moved back with your parents not everybody can do that
yes I did and I know not everyone can do that :) I've been asked what I did to save money so this video explains how I did it. I still believe most people can save money, maybe not as much as fast as I did, but there are other ways that I saved money which hopefully someone can benefit from. Thanks for watching :)
You can still do a lot of these things and save money.
rizeuse hey there dont make excuses in life ; you can save money ; start saving small amount like 5k in one year
rizeuse but you can still save money
I Am Happy And I Deserve It you'reso right so many like to make excuses. I use to do the same thing
Such great tips! Such a helpful video!!! Loved it ♥
Thank you!! 💛💛💛
Thanks for responding, Amanda. I'm now a subbie!
Thank you! 💛💛💛
(a comment for all those people like me that are like "...I don't even make 15K before taxes in 5 months!")
I'm in a similar situation (and am taking similar money saving measures) as Amanda right now. Recently graduated college and am halfway through a 6-month internship that pays ~2.5K net income a month. I was fortunate enough to be able to find a place to stay rent free until my internship is done, which - along with making my own meals - saves A LOT of money . But for all you regularly functioning adults that do have to pay rent: you can still save as much money as I am planning on saving (~12K) with an extra 3 months of work on my salary, given you pay about $800/month for rent. One point on which Amanda and I differ is our gym memberships. For me, gym is a great way to stay in shape and keep myself entertained during the workweek. So if I get up at 7 to catch the bus at 8 and get to work by 9, leave work at 5, go to the gym, and get home around 8, I'm too pleasantly exhausted to do much more than lie around languidly until bedtime. It's hard to spend money when you don't have the time! (Gym is about $1.25 a day as a monthly membership). As for weekends, I'm not much one to give advice; I already enjoy introverted activities like reading, playing musical instruments, or browsing the internet. Hiking or exploring public parks is another great, free way to keep yourself from existential despair during the weekends, and something I wish I did more of!
So, in my case, 6 months of work and saving money gets me 8-10 months in SEAsia. Pretty sweet deal!
good tips, definitely helps by staying occupied doing things.
This was a very inspirational video! Great idea with having part of your check sent to your saving account! :) Awesome video!
+Heather Ellis thanks!
Wow such great tips! Great video!
+Freedom In A Budget thanks!!
You did so good, happy travels 👍🏼
Gosh you just describe my life style:)
the issue with me is not working enough.great video
also I saw one of your videos yesterday and really enjoying watching you.keep doing videos
So basically you had no life for 5 months. but hey thats cool, you were able to travel!
+Let's go Shopping I didn't really feel like I had no life which is the funny part. I spent time doing things I loved that are free, like hiking, bike riding, facials and netflix at home. I spent a lot of time with people I care about and I think it was a great way to relax before heading out on this trip! :) Totally worth it! Thanks for watching
Netflix and an internet connection ain’t free.
you should call it how i stooped spending so much money each month.
Its like you HAVE to be hard on yourself! Even after we don't have parents anymore we are our own parents!! Lol adulting is a trap! But your video was very helpful toward putting it into perspective 👌
haha I like to think of it more as putting your money toward something you care about more. I was so excited to put money in my savings because I knew every time I got paid I was so much closer to my goal of quitting my job to travel :) Thanks!
+Amanda Round the Globe very true!!
I spend almost all my pay check on rent. My parents wont let me move back in their house...
You don't have to move in with your parents, there's other options. If rent is your biggest expense, definitely research ways to lessen it...Can you move to somewhere with cheaper rent? House share? Move to cheaper area that might be further out?
You're lucky. I cant move out or else my parents lose the house.
claudia zermeno why is that?
what did you do for work? if you dont mind me asking, what was your take home pay and your monthly expenses? just seeing how much you committed
+Bao Vo I worked in the wine industry. I am thinking about making a video explaining the numbers in more detail. :)
I paid off 16k in 9 months while paying off a mortgage as well. I need to cut out more. Good tips. I think I will cut my data plans on my phones. I want to get rid of cable but it comes with internet and we need that for home business. I have an Alaskan airlines credit card and I do the same thing. Pay it off monthly. They match a mile for every mile.
I'm still without a job. But I am about to self-publish a book. I really hope that the funds roll in pretty fast. I am ready to move to Thailand ASAP.
Do you wear contacts? i was going to say if you do try wearing only transition glasses it'll save you a lot of money. i have 2 kids and they wear glasses as do I and my husband as well. we save a ton on wearing glasses and not contacts.
I used to wear glasses (I owned contacts but hated them), but I actually saved up and got LASIK right before I left for my travels. I had to pay into a health savings account for my job anyway, so it was great to use that money for something that I really wanted. :)
When you say you bought everything on the chase card , did you mean your monthly bills/expenses also or just for food ,gas, etc.?
So, the key is to work full-time at a good job, give up your car, and move in with your parents....why didn't I think of that??
I'm not sure if you are being sarcastic. I'll give you the benefit of the doubt here :) People ask me all the time how I afford to travel and they usually assume that my parents pay for everything or that I'm different than them (privileged in some way) and the point of this video was to show everyone watching that I worked hard to save to travel and other people can too. :) Thank you for watching!
Can you elaborate and share the expense costs as a breakdown?
it's a good habit to save like this while you can. I'm a father of two now so I don't have the luxury of putting away 75% of my salary for savings. in fact 90% of what I mae goes towards my kids, I literally buy myself nothing these days.
I really like this video💯💯
i got the feeling that is dominican republic where that video were record.
It was recorded in Panama City ☺️
+Amanda Round the Globe it has to do somethimg with the picture and the activity of motocycle on the back ground. kinda close 😊
super close! I hope to go to the Dominican Republic someday :)
Basically you stopped having a life
I still did a lot of things. I went for hikes on the weekends, I would have dinner at my friend's houses, I'd get beers and have picnics outside, I read and studied a lot, I created my own website, I learned about travel, I did a lot of stuff and I was still pretty busy to be honest. I just didn't spend loads of money going out for fancy dinners or nights out.
I saved 10000 in 6 months doing exactly that
How much did u get for your car?
$4k :)
That’s cute. I saved $15K in one month.
damn I wish I could save this much, I earn £740 a month and after bills (rent, gas, electricity, water, council tax, monthly food, and car) I don't have a penny left! I never shop, go out for food, wear make up get my hair done etc...damn girl you're lucky!!! I suppose I could move back home but I still would only save about 3grand a year!
Emily Worrall can you go to uni or college and upskill to get a better job?
Sinead Tbc I would love to but because of my age I have to pay for college courses, there is an option to take out an advance learning loan or something along those lines but I'd rather not be in debt
This is the thing, is that it really bugs me when people like this say "anyone can do it!" They don't realize how wrong they are. Yes they worked hard and made sacrifices but they also had a lot of privilege and opportunity that others don't.
I've been doing the same trying to save 10,000 n 12 months. I deleted my banking app n kept my money n my savers account
What was your annual salary?
About 48,000. If she was saved 15000 in 5 months, that's 3000/per month. She said she was saving about 75% of her paycheck, meaning she was bringing in about 4000/month. So 4000 x 12 = 48 000
if you listen she sold some stuff
I'm older than. most of you that girl in the video included. I'm 46, when I began buying milk on my own I was 10 and milk was 32 cents from 82 to 1989 where it was 65 cents. it never left that range in the 80s where I bought it in nj.
gasoline was 35 cents. if you can't walk or ride a bike, or find a very cheap place to buy food and also extremely cheap place to pay rent. I can guarantee any of you will be working past 40 and beyond. limit the car to just weekends. live in efficiencies studios. and cheap food. and I guarantee at just 500 dollars in mutual fund monthly for 15 years you'll be done with work.
I just quit my lousy job. My boss wanted to fire me anyway.
great video :)
Thank you!! 💛💛💛
+Amanda Round the Globe you are really inspiring :)
+Belinda He aw thank you so much!! 💛💛💛☺️☺️☺️
oh yeah very cool! :) thanks.
Well how much did you make per month?
Yeah but you sound like you have a good salary to start. If I had 70000 in the bank I work no more....Lloll...
Yeah if I had 70000 in the bank I wouldn't be working either
70,000/1200 a month in operating expenses is about 8 years of operations. That's if it's making no interest. You got a hot pic by the way. I'd ask when you coming to Miami next but then for what nothing to learn here. Much more interesting Africa Asia New Zealand.
Here's a great question I'm going to isreal in October. How are these 20 hour trips. I'm thinking I'm not going to sleep the night before so to sleep the whole ride there.
ray bon I am from Africa and the flight takes 24 hours. You can take a sleeping pill which will put you to sleep of course but since it's uncomfortable sleeping on a plane makes it easy by the time you get up your almost there
ray bon
The first question is how much money does she make?
The answer: 3,000 a month
Exactly, and at 75% it means she was bringing in 4000 a month... So, answer: get a better job! Lol
If you can’t move back home that’s your fault or problem not hers you wanted to know how to save and that’s a way to save period nobody told you to jump in to something you can’t handle smh you should’ve been saving before you even moved out
In what world? Rent, food and gas alone is expensive!
I would love to save money but I could never do this.
So u had income of 3000 a month to do this not many people in the world will be able to save 15k in 5 months if they don’t have the income
You need to make atleast 36k per year to start
I do all of this to save money ans still...havent been able to save loads :(
every bit helps!! It takes time, which is the annoying part, but just keep doing what you can :)
I just gotta say, it's not such a big deal to save that amount of money, considering the lifestlyen you describe ou had before you started saving, lol. Moving back to your parents house? I spend half of my paycheck on rent, and moving is not an option. Really, this is not a huge life saving video :D
thanks for watching :)
Going back to live with your parents is not always a luxury, sometimes it's a sacrifice 😂💔
she gets 4000 a month... dam that's a lot
haha I have never made $4000 a month. I made $2600 per month. I sold my car for $4k which helped a lot. Thanks for watching :)
Well shit if I SOLD MY CAR I'd make 15,000 in a year too lol good lord
Do you do any modeling side jobs?
No haha
I didn't even get 3,000 in one month 🙈
Am saying my money to buy an apartment for real estate am only 24 years old wish everyone good luck 2020
What a pretty lady.
If only I can live in someone's house for free, saving money is not that hard..
if you can't move home, I'm sure there are still other ways to save money!
Goals but wouldn’t want to move back home lol
Tell me what you do and what you earn, otherwise you are just making this up...
I used to work in the wine industry. I made $1300 every two weeks. I didn't make this up haha
So you earned 2600,- a month, saved 1950,- a month times 5 is 9750,- so you then still had to earn extra 1050,- a month....
Maybe it's possible when your car made you a nice sum when you sold it.
But ok, I believe you :)
Carlos
Stay nice please
Paris R. Zike
I wait tables and I make $2000 a month on the low end working 5 days a week. I could easily make more if I picked up extra shifts. It's definitely possible to save up that much if you're willing to sacrifice a few comforts and luxuries.
thank you for the tip
thanks for watching!
Where is your pleasure?
I love hiking and being outdoors. I spent a lot of time doing that. I also really love catching up with friends over coffee, which I did on the weekends. I am lucky that I got free wine from work so in the evenings I would spend time with my parents over some wine or work on my website. I stayed really busy, but the things I enjoyed doing didn't cost money :)
I don't even have a job.
Um hi ! I need to know how I can get in the wine industry and have free wine!!!
Oh and make money while doing it. Lol
Awesome. Soon most of us will be forced to be like you.
new subby
😊
Very helpful video
Most likely shes making 60k per year...oh wait. She lived with her parents? So no rent. Bingo.
Check Skrill Card
Bull Shit. To save $15000 in 5 months is $3000 a month. what is your take home $4000 a month. $3000 a month is 75%of $4000 a month which means your make $6000 a month or $75,000 a year. What's your job?
You hardly have any lips!
ModelDoctor thanks!
tove looo
🖒🖒🖒
My dad makes 30000 a month lol
Congratulations
Ray Vincent ya I regret saying that😁
