    Tears of Scotland

    Tears of Scotland
    The rural pipe and merry lay
    No more shall cheer the happy day ;
    No social scenes of gay delight
    Beguile the dreary winter night ;
    No strains but those of sorrow flow
    And nought be heard but sounds of woe,-
    While the pale phantoms of the slain
    Glide nightly o'er the silent plain
    O baneful cause, O fatal morn
    Accursed to ages yet unborn!
    The sons against their father stood
    The parent shed his children's blood
    Yet, when the rage of battle ceased
    The victor's soul was not appeased;-
    The naked and forlorn must feel
    Devouring flames and murdering steel!
    The rural pipe and merry lay
    No more shall cheer the happy day ;
    No social scenes of gay delight
    Beguile the dreary winter night ;
    No strains but those of sorrow flow
    And nought be heard but sounds of woe,-
    While the pale phantoms of the slain
    Glide nightly o'er the silent plain

    The battle of Culloden in April 1746 broke the power of the highland clans and ended the Jacobite rebellion of Bonnie Prince Charlie. In its aftermath the English carried out the genocidal highland clearances. Most of the population was murdered, starved, or forced to emigrate.

      Just a quick tidbit, the clearance was not 'the English' as is sometimes mistaken.
      It was a protestant British led ethnic cleansing of a Catholic Gaelic region.

      Not "England." The Jacobite Rebellions had supporters who were English, Scottish, Welsh, and Irish, as well as those who passionately supported the Hanoverian government from all those locations. More Scots supported King George than Bonnie Prince Charlie. Many more simply stayed neutral. It's also worth noting that often Lowland Scots were more ferociously anti-Highlander than their English countrymen, since they had a history of dealing with Higland raids and banditry. And yes, some of it just came down to a nasty helping of prejudice.

    I'm picturing a lone Scottish king bloody sword held limply in hand as he gazes over a bloody Battlefield. The bodies of his men and enemies piled high as tears fell silent down his face.

    "A love song for a vampire"
    Oh, my sire,
    My vampire!
    You are all,
    For my soul!
    Oh, my king,
    Connection are our,
    This magical power,
    The wedding ring.
    The fool is brother,
    The tyrant is father,
    You are savior my.
    Forever you and I!
    You are my lover,
    I`m giving you a present:
    My life and my hand,
    My innocence, my flover.
    P. S. "sire" is French for "your Majesty".

      I have seen it, and really loved it. The art style was especially amazing to me.
      I actually did vocals on Miracle of Sound’s Arcane-inspired fan song, ‘Perfect’

      Hello lovely, I do apologize. I remember you asking me for this by email a while ago, and I completely forgot to make a note of it. I'm a bit of a scatterhead at the best of times, and life is always chaotic here so can i ask that you send me another message or email me at music@karliene.com with your address and I'll get that sent to you as soon as I can. :)
      Sorry for forgetting you. x

    As hauntingly beautiful as I expected once I knew what the source material was. Sucks all the pretenders the Jacobites fought for were, to a man, feckless and incompetent. Then again, the Hanoverians weren't much better either.

    "The sons against their father stood
    The parent shed his children's blood"
    Not trying to be a vile bastard, but wouldn't wound rhyme better. Like:
    "The sons against their father stood,
    The parents carved this child's wound."

      It's from a nearly 300 year old poem - pretty sure Karliene wouldn't have wanted to change anything.
