- On April 21, we embarked on a 700km road trip with the Toyota Camry Hybrid to celebrate the golden anniversary of Earth Day. This modern environmental movement had its roots in cars as rising air pollution in the 1960s was caused due to high lead content in fuels. Today, Earth Day is marked as a day of action by over a billion people in the world. India is also moving towards clean and green energy, and that’s where we headed with the clean and efficient Toyota Camry Hybrid , driving from Bengaluru to Kanyakumari, with a pitstop at Muppandal Wind Farm , India largest and the world’s third largest onshore wind project. The Camry was and will always be the benchmark leader in terms of a big sedan. Add to this, the Hybrid, superb efficiency and the fact that it's pact to the gills with bells and whistles, I'm sure EVO India had a ball of a drive. Thank you for this brilliant video. Good one! Camry is one of the biggest seller for Toyota in USA despite its boring looks outside. But, the engine, regenerative system and all work hand in hand to conserve more fuel by driving most of the time in EV mode. Camry is a costly product considering the segment placement it is in but, if Toyota can bring any new vehicle with the same tech by encorporating it with a 1.5 or 1.8lit petrol engine at low price(14-18lakhs) means, things would have been quite different for them. But, Toyota is choosing to rebadge more vehicles than bringing any proper new vehicle apart from Fortuner and Crysta. Sad that we don't have those many vehicles which would've helped us reduce the emissions by a huge rate.

Technology at low cost is an Oxymoron. Car were kind of luxury till the 90s and slowly became accesible to mid and upper mid class..Similarly manufacturers initially offer technology at a premium and slowly incept the tech onto the budget cars..Lexus style acoustic glass is already in Yaris. We will get it..!!!..Just let the experts do their jobs..!!..I am eagerly waiting for a sub 20 Lakh good hybrid car...

We all keep whining about roads but they have improved massively in the previous years.
I don't care whether roads are bad in India, I would get a sedan because if hatchbacks can do a little rough terrain then why not sedans? I hate the fact that people are calling crossovers as "SUV'S"(leaving full size suvs)😭😭😡😡😡who agrees with me?

A few areas where the hybrid systems have a flaw.
1. They usually use the eCVT this is not as good as regular gearboxes in certain situations.
2. The electric-petrol transition is noticeable and masking it is difficult but no idea how much this is perceived in the new camry.
3. It costs a 40+ lakhs on road, poor Indian government has not provided any substantial benefits for hybrid buyer's. A similar priced Skoda superb is much more faster better handler more luxurious elegant and can be a driver's car as well as a chauffeur driven car.
4. It delivers 23 kmpl ok.. but how is the highway mileage if the car uses its petrol power much more at speeds above 100kmph.
5. Brake performance in hybrids are sometimes unpredictable no idea how is it in Camry.
Highway mileage is great. We got 20kmpl+ consistently with a mix of relaxed and enthusiastic driving. The engine runs on high thermal efficiency Atkinson cycle, superior in fuel efficiency compared to regular Otto cycle engines.

@@RS-ds6kb Camry is being Assembled in our Factory in Bidadi Bangalore as all parts comes directly from Japan Due to this it's costing more. I think you know the less awareness about Hybrid technology in India is sad truth

Battery is just a transition in technology which will not stay in business for more than 10-15 years. Future is hydrogen fueled cars.
Toyota Yaris Hybrid sold in European market has over 30Kmpl fuel economy and Mazda 3 Skyactiv-X had fuel economy upwards of 18kmpl without hybrid
No such cars sold in India😔

That's the Euro-spec Camry. India, Thailand, etc get the 178bhp standard version.

@@evoIndia Thailand website that gets the same engine with the 175 bhp ice engine and 120 bhp electric motor says max out put is 155 kw i.e 211 bhp. Same engine. Only thing is that Toyota hasn't mentioned that on their website correctly. If you see the previous one produced a combined output of 201 bhp.

Hey Sirish, we pay a premium for this Hybird cars and not sure how costly is the maintenance for these systems for say 5-10 years..
Is the fuel savings comparable to the upfront investments and maintenance costs that we make?
Of course I do emphasize "Go Green" :)

Not that much...my uncle has a Camry hybrid for a couple of years and it's running fine...dealerships told that once in 8-9 years, it'll be fine to change the battery of the hybrid system alone, which will be a major cost. That's it. No major costs involved. I'm sure, we might not have spent more than a lakh for maintenance (totally!) since we bought it. Its completely peaceful and mileage returns are also fantastic for a car of this segment. You wouldn't believe it, we were able to extract 35kmpl on the highway.
Don't think I'm advertising for Toyota, it's a genuine recommendation. :)
