Josh, your commentary has a beautiful balance of intellegent-yet-sympathetic sophistication, and terrible meme-drenched chaos. Love your work, keep it up, dude.
Josh is like the anti-Ramsey. I love it. He's super supportive and tries to find the value in each dish. I just wanna hug him. (Maybe I'll get a chance at mythicon)
I'd love an episode of mythical kitchen that involves dice deciding ingredients, in whatever way josh thought would lead to either something tasty, or something weird but creative
Josh's reaction to the pizza? is inspiring as a life lesson. His gut reaction to this thing he doesn't understand is fear and disgust. But he stays present with it, tries to contextualize it and put it into terms he can understand. He eventually finds acceptance and at least partial understanding, turning his disgust to positivity. Good attitude, Josh.
I was totally fine up until the disgusting air fryer and pond water sink one. *hurk* Josh's chaotic attitude on giving everything at least a chance is incredible, but he's just built differently
This was so much more wholesome than I expected? Yes, some food on social media is done purely for outrage and it's hilarious. But a lot of food on social media is also incredibly earnest. It's people sharing something they made that they enjoy. I very much enjoy that Josh was able to approach each video realistically based on its intent, and that he was able to discuss his own bias to some ideas.
We need mythical kitchen to create a 3 course meal from just rolling dice for ingredients. I would love the chaos. Josh would love it. Nicole would have a panic attack trying to throw random things she doesn’t think belong in her dish. 😂
Working as a social media strategist for five years I have to say I absolutely loved your commentary about how attention has become the new currency. You were absolutely spot on and I would love to hear more of your rants about the topic!!
Shout outs to Herdez Salsa Verde Josh is spot-on talking about how you kinda know exactly how frozen ground meat with a "taco seasoning" blend would taste, and there's no reason to excessively hate on it Also love the teppanyaki vs. hibachi clarification
5:48 he has tofu that's been left out(? expired?), moldy seaweed, and mushrooms. when he starts using the soap he says he's cleaning them. after "cleaning" it he says he's starting to see the tofu and then i think it becomes pretty understandable after that :)
I don't typically enjoy react videos, but I really love when Josh does them. He's clearly intelligent, thoughtful, and empathetic enough to discuss bigger topics with more nuance than most people even know about, let alone use when they speak. It's also always a nice surprise to anticipate a typical react video and then find myself paying rapt attention and nodding along as we talk about the uncanny valley of food videos. TL;DR Josh do talk about food real good.
As someone who’s watched both gmm and the food network religiously all of my childhood, it’s so cool to see it all come together. Two things that got me through high school, college, and my childhood which…wasn’t the most fun thing lol. Thanks for doing what you do guys !
Josh and the MK being so encouraging and supportive of anyone trying to cook is what made me finally overcome my intense fear of cooking. It was scary the first few times but now I love cooking! I truly couldn’t have done it without Mythical Kitchen and Josh. I’m very grateful for you all!
I feel like the lasagna brisket sandwich is like the "How to draw an owl" meme. Step 1: Put some sauce and brisket on a bun, Step 2: Add a whole slab of already prepared lasagna lol But I really appreciate the commentary that Josh is bringing to this. It is honest, critical, and making an attempt at understanding and broadening people's views. I love it!
That 'Don't Mix It!' cake recipe was first introduced to me like 10 years ago by my dad's spouse, a lady from rural North Carolina. She called it Dump Cake, 'cause you just dump it all in. Seeing it get Tik Tok famous now just makes me laugh.
Not sure if the comments have already addressed this, but the whole style of "DON'T MIX IT" - while the phrasing in videos may be some new-fangled TikTokkery, this style of cooking itself I attribute to "Dump Cakes" and "Dump Dinners" - two actual cookbooks that exist and are based on just layering ingredients being dumped into a pan/pot and don't require mixing. I've actually made some and can attest that they . . . work.
Yeah those are definitely real recipes that work, not faked like so many of the “five minute craft” style videos. They’re so versatile too. Want to make a dark chocolate cherry dump cake? Blueberry pineapple with lemon cake? Peach funfetti? Almost endless combos
the roll for sandwich guy getting representation makes me so happy! also talking about terrace house? this is my favorite mythical kitchen episode ever
Josh quoting "Trading Spouses" with the woman that got mad at the atheist family she was paired with and tearing up the check is great. Even better, is that the producers said that she accepted the money anyways.
The taco rice mixture could be better with a few additions: 1. Tomatoes, add diced tomatoes or something to get another flavour and vegetable 2. I use pasta instead and cook it for shorter 3. Frozen chopped spinach is fantastic in any dish you want flavourless vegetable and feel better about what you’re eating 4. Add peppers, just like more vegetable once again to feel better about what you’re eating I personally wouldn’t add cheese like that but like to each their own, it looks bleh but is probably great for comfort lol
Agreed. I'd actually eat it, I might actually try making it some day. Rice or pasta, honestly either would be good, but I think I'd want mine with rice. Just seems like a great hangover food or to warm up during Winter.
@@matthewenfinger766 I use a recipe called “Taco in a pot” it’s a great one pot recipe and you can add lots to it to make it your own, and there’s usually lots of leftovers!
I said "I wanna go home" a split second before Josh said "I don't like it, can I go home?" The difference is, I'm already sitting comfortably in my own home, so who am I to complain 😅
I've listened to a lot of chefs and people in the food world do similar things to what Josh has done here. and literally none of them have approached it in such a kind and emotionally intelligent way as Josh has in this 20 minute video. props to him for not holding his, clear, intelligence over the people in the video and instead applauding most of them for what they are accomplishing and their 'playing with food'.
Your commentary and insights are amazing here. It was a delight to see Dylan Hollis and Roll for Sandwich here, since I watch them avidly on Tik Tok. Happy birthday, Josh!
I love Roll for Sandwich!! :D I would definitely watch Josh react to more of it simply because he is a man who appreciates interesting flavor combos so seeing how he would react to the sometimes normal, sometimes chaotic combinations would be so cool
I loved Josh's reaction to the last 2 videos. The D&D sandwich and Ghetti were great. I love these type of reaction videos and would love to see more of them
I've seen a few people already mention it but now I'm also going to say it; a collab between DnD sandwich guy and the Mythical Kitchen team would be a nat 20, fo sho ;)
first video ive ever watched on this channel... love rhett and link but really love josh the person the chef the smart guy with the crazy facts.. reacting josh is GOLD.. MORE OF THIS PLEASE
Tepan yaki is super fun, currently it’s my job and I always get people saying “I just love hibachi kind of stuff like this” when it even says on the restaurant Teppan Yaki
I haven't thought about "the audition" in decades! And yes, this was a horror sadist video. Also, hearing Josh say "slop on that WOP" brought up a strange new feeling
I love how positive he is about all this and how his view on food is that it isn't static and is meant to be played with. Can avant-garde be a style of cooking? Cause if so I feel like Josh is in that school.
Really like this an an addition to Mythical Kitchen content! Thank you guys for always making me smile -- every day for me is hard.. you guys make it bearable!!
Josh taught me and every one of more about food than we asked for. It is incredible. And goddamn do I admire his knowledge, passion, care, and eloquency.
I agree that people in the future will look back at the stuff today, and I like what you said about taking things in context for the time. The thing about the Depression-era food (speaking as a person whose parents were Depression-era kids) is back then they were trying to make more from not having enough and now people are making lesser things from far too much.
We always compliment Josh's chaotic behavior, but I really love how thoughtful and educated he is.
I love how articulate & quick-witted he is, too!
Seriously, eloquent and well spoken af
Forreal, he’s well versed and insightful
GMM has achieved some awesome things in its time and I'd like cloning to be next because I'd love me a Josh for all of these reasons.
😍
Petition to have D&D sandwich guy on as a guest.
YESSS!!!!!
Yes this needs to happen
YES
PLEASE
I picture Josh yelling "ROLL FOR CHAOS!!!" Or something kimchi Mayo and how it needs to just be "More wet- The sandwich needs more wet." 💀
B Dylan Hollis and the Roll for Sandwich guy need to be invited as guests. Their content is god tier....so good!
Adveturesinaardia is awesome. I love his role for sandwich vids
AGREED!
Dylan would be like the most amazing guest possible.
Pretty sure B Dylan just did a show with him. I could be wrong
Edit Mandela effect I guess. I must be thinking of his guest spot with Nick DiGiovanni

Did you mortgage your house too? Lol
Josh doesn't like hugs
He’s not a huge fan of physical contact but like i’m sure he’d enthusiastically fist bump you. 🤟🏻❤️
Run Josh run!
I'd love an episode of mythical kitchen that involves dice deciding ingredients, in whatever way josh thought would lead to either something tasty, or something weird but creative
Absolutely! Honestly, the dice sandwich guy is so soothing to watch
I second this idea!!!!
Bring roll for sandwich in for the episode too! He said he's a big fan 🙂
Roll for Sandwich and Matt Mercer as guests for the episode.
Yesss, can we have a mythical kitchen version of chopped?!?

Beyond the jokes, there is so much respect for Josh's open-mindedness and knowledge.

"I don't understand the internet"
Proceeds to explain the layers (ha, cake) behind the don't mix it video.
"Dump Cakes" are a real thing that you don't mix before baking. My wife enjoys making them and there are entire cookbooks dedicated to them.
Yes! My friends and I were obsessed in high school with making dump cakes and watching the dump cake commercials
5:48 he has tofu that's been left out(? expired?), moldy seaweed, and mushrooms. when he starts using the soap he says he's cleaning them. after "cleaning" it he says he's starting to see the tofu and then i think it becomes pretty understandable after that :)
