  • A song that has nothing to do with religion yet for many years people often felt that it was. An interesting discussion by Kirti and Savio on this song.

I don't know what the dance is that you do in some videos but I love it. It looks like 1 part martial arts, 1part pizza dough tossing and 1 part Uma Thurman dancing in Pulp Fiction......LOVE IT!

Michael Stipe said in an interview this comes from that southern phrase, people say it when disappointing things happen or they get frustrated, etc. Always loved the song. You are both great, just subbed.

Losing my religion is a common saying in the south in America. Michael Stipe is from Atlanta. You were spot on with its meaning.

Losing my religion is not meant literally. It is a southern saying for losing ones temper.

To me, it was about young Men's Angst. Feeling alone with all of your feelings while listening to this song for me.

This song is about unrequited love. More specifically about Michael Stipe's homosexual feelings toward someone who is not gay, when he himself was confused about his own sexuality.

Namaste enoma. Kirti i think you are the closer with the idea of frustration. Stipe is from the “Bible bIelt” of USA, think it is about his difficulties coming out as gay to family. This song is from before he came out publicly.

I took this song to literally mean that someone is losing faith...losing their religion. Losing faith in God. I have always took this song to mean that. Of course, I suppose you could look a this song in another way [like losing your temper?]. But for me, that does not sit right.
