Mike who Cheese hairy wdym I’m right it makes no difference. Shes just trying to make it about race when its a fucking reptile tank set up video. Shes an idiot
I got a beautiful corn snake for my latest birthday, he is little (not really, growing super fast!) and almost a year old now. We have a basking light and not a pad. (dunno) He is a good boy if you wanted to know
I just got a corn snake and I'm doing research on how I make her more comfortable with her surrounds. Love this video! Along with my research I'm gonna make her a great home!
This is a pretty good setup! Except I would recommend a textured background for the snake to climb on and to make it have a more naturalistic feel to the tank. I absolutely LOVE the fake moss balls, they added an extra detail to the tank that I didn't know I needed. :D
people i recommend not using aspen bedding like ever for any snake because of how random those pieces are, they can have small hard chips that can easily get stuck in the snakes scales. use lignocel instead it works much better
Lignocel is extremely similar to aspen. Both substrates are unnatural and neither retain humidity (corns benefit from 60-70% humidity). A soil mix is ideal.
@@nightinggale6470 no corns benefit from a 40-60% and lignocel is much softer than aspen, my snake has perfectly shed everytime with a 40-60% humidity range. Do u even own a snake?
@@ghosty24601 yes, I’ve had a corn snake for over five years. I used to think that humidity range was ideal for corns too. And yes, they’re hardy snakes that can tolerate lower humidity. But 60-70% is ideal. Corn snakes are native to states like Florida, where the humidity is high. Lignocel is completely unnatural and doesn’t retain humidity at all. A soil mix is much more natural. The website reptifiles is worth checking out, particularly the humidity and substrate sections of their corn snake care guide. Reptifiles is a source that goes solely off of factual, scientific evidence and the natural habitat of the animal.
Girl!! I had a poster that I love and I didn’t know what to use it for! Now I did! I didn’t put the poster inside though I taped it on the outside and cut to its shape to my terrarium. Figured it’s easier to clean still. Thanks for the idea. I didn’t have space for this poster on my wall lol! Xo

I came here to see if I would recommend your videos and thought to guage it on the set up since I have had corns for almost 12 years and have six currently ( had 7 but my bro in law let our oldest one escape :( ) ANYWAY!! You are so STUNNING!! I am hetro sexual and still want to hit pause and just admire your beauty!! Wow!! I am absolutely sure everyone is thinking the same, just hope you've been told so much too! I will be sharing this video with people that need a visual on corn snake setups.
I’m curious why no lights for the corn snake? I have lights on my enclosure, but would it be better practice to take those out and replace with a heating pad?
corn snakes can live happy with under tank heating or a heat lamp. The only thing is under tank heating is easier to regulate the temperature and a heat lamp can cause burns if the heat is to hot. If your snake isn’t having any problems though the heat lamp is totally fine🙂
I’ve had a piece of wood that has just been sitting on a shelf as decoration for about… 2 years? It’s obviously dry and doesn’t have bugs but it does have remnants of barnacles. Again, it’s been sitting inside, dry for two years. Do I still need to disinfect at this point? Idk how I feel about adding bleach to something porous that my snake will come in contact with.
Yes it goes on the bottom. It should not cover the whole bottom and it should only be on one side so the snake can have a cooler side if they want to cool off
I miss my corn snakes I had an albino and an orange one they both died from mating I was 15 and unaware they were male and female I’m 29 now getting ready to buy another ONE this is an awesome set up
I love that background. Is it a picture off the internet you had walmart print or? My snake tank is currently 6ft tall x 4W x 2D and naked. I appreciate you letting me know.
Definitely not too large. There’s no such thing as too big, only too bare. Bigger is always better as long as there’s enough clutter and coverage. 75 gallons is actually bare minimum for an adult. The enclosure must be at least as long as the snake, with a good amount of width and climbing height. They’re very active snakes. A 4x2x2’ enclosure or bigger is ideal.
Heat mats are not a good heat source. A halogen flood bulb connected to a dimmer/dimming thermostat is the most natural and beneficial option. They produce infrared A and B like the sun, heat that penetrates deep into the skin tissue and heats them far more effectively than heat mats. Whereas heat mats only produce IRC, which only heats the surface of their skin.
Hello! I’m prepping to get my first snake next month and I’ve been meaning to ask snake owners how do they keep the heating pad from affecting the piece of furniture where the terrarium is sitting on?
U explain everything very well and name of the corn snake plzz(sorry, I don't know new subscriber)...and the snake home looks amazing and you really care for your pets..u r amazing 💕
Hey Lady, I love your channel! I do have a question. Is it ok to put a potted vine in your snakes cage? I have aspin bottom. But I was thinking about putting a pot in it.
Thanks! 😁 I've never tried, but aspen does mold easily. So watering the plant might cause mold. But if water isn't going to come into contact with the aspen, it should be fine. Just make sure whatever plant your using is reptile safe 😊 Joshsfrogs.com sells a lot of plants, so I usually just find my plant on that website, and it'll state whether it's animal safe or not.
How do you find the Aspen I'm looking at setting up a corn snake Viv but using forest floor/cocofibre with Arcadia deep heat projector kinda a woodland setup
I know I sound dumb asking this question, and I know it’s a year later asking this, but important question, I really want a corn snake and I’m going to be getting one soon, but the question is, so if I have the heating pad , do I need to have all the special lights? Sorry for asking, but I love u tho ♥️
I agree with what CBell said. The only reason you'd need any kind of light is so that they can determine day/night cycle. But as long as they're in a room with a window, or the room itself has a light, you don't need one😊
I've been researching corn snakes for a while but I still need help on a tank or enclosure. I don't have a lot of money so I can only afford a tank that the snake will have to live in its entire life so I've been watching videos and I know I can do it however I don't know what an acceptable size for an adult corn snake I hear a 40 breeder works but then some say that I have to do a 4×2×2 which is like $400. I don't mind spending money but I just wanna know what yall think? The reason I ask is because the site im looking to get the enclosure from has a tank w/ snake discovery that's a 40gallom same price but it comes with a background water dishes three hides and some enrichment and the larger one is completely plain. Thank you for your help!!!!
Yes, as long as the enclosure is properly secured so they can’t escape. Make sure they have plenty of clutter and plant coverage so they don’t feel exposed. The enclosure should be at least as long as the snake, with a good amount of depth and climbing height.
Yes! It's good to set it up early, so you can make sure all the temps and humidity and everything is where it needs to be before putting the snake in. That also gives you time to make sure you're happy with how everything looks. Then when you get him, you can put him in and leave him alone to settle in for a bit - much less stressful for him that way. 😊
Pros and cons of either: Heat lamp: Pros: perfect for arboreal species. It adds a nice ambient to your room, in my opinion, and some lamps can get safely hotter than uth which is nice if you have an animal with high heat requirements like some species of monitor lizards. Cons: they vary in effectiveness a whole bunch depending on the wattage and type of bulb you picked and it can be difficult finding out what is best suited for what animal. They can dry out the air of an enclosure pretty effectively so not best for humid reptiles It is frustratingly easy to break bulbs in lamps sitting ontop of an enclosure the struggle is real. Not a lot of reptiles are used to receiving heat from above, the temps can change depending on how high up in the enclosure the reptile is, which can be a problem if you have a terrestrial snake that has dreams of being arboreal like i do because they can venture upward and the light can get too hot and reptiles will actually hurt themselves by overexposing to higher temps. Heat pads (UTH) Pros: perfect for terrestrial species. Heat pads are hard to break if you have them regulated properly with a thermostat. They dont range a whole ton in wattage and usually the general rule of thumb is if it fits 1/3 or 1/4 of the tank, reaches the temps you need, and isn't damaged or warped, you're probably ok. Heat pads don't heat the air of the enclosure, and if used on damp substrate, can help raise humidity. Cons: heat mats need a thermostat every time. They can overheat without one, cook your animal, and even cause a fire. Speaking of, you have to be mindful of what surface you place your heat mat on. If its on a painted desk then it could bubble the paint if it gets too hot. There are heat resistant sprays and paints you can use tho to combat that issue. Uth can also be a problen for burrowing species. The glass of an enclosure can get very very hot and burn the animal if it burrows or sits directly on it. So its best when using it to put a barrier down. Ive found a plastic barrier made out of the cutout bottom of an old bin the most effective. And either option does have the potential to cause a house fire if used incorrectly so make sure to always read the directions even if u know what to do just in case anything has been updated or if there are special requirements for certain items. And i support the use of UVA and UVB on the majority of reptiles even if they don't need it especially lizards for vitamin absorption.
If using a thick layer of substrate for a corn snake, then a ceramic heat emitter, heat panel or deep heat projector is a good approach. She used a heat pad which is fine because the corn snake can easily burrow down into it. Do not used lamps, those are not appropriate for most snakes as they do not heat the substrate, only the air, and they dry out the tank. A temperature controller is a necessity in any case. Also, screen tops need to be mostly covered. The most effective and simple way is to use metal foil tape to cover most of the screen. The kind of tape you can find near the heating duct section in Home Depot or Lowes or similar type store.
Could you do a video on how you get the backgrounds like where you find the pictures and about how much it’s cost and how long it takes to get back plz and thank you😁
hey my cornsnake is 5.5 months and i have him in a 24x18x12 terrarium, which size on terrarium do you think it’s right for him? and have i a too little or big terrarium what do you think?(btw he is my first snake)
Hahaha it probably is. I didn't even think of that. I just like the way it looks on the inside better, because it takes away the glare of the glass. That's why I seal it in mod podge 😊 so I can still wipe it down.
I love all your tank ideas I’m getting my bearded dragon set up worked on and your tank is amazing so I’m trying to do something similar and thinking about changing my corns to something similar to yours to lol your tank are amazing!!
These are just such wonderful pets. I recently, from a breeder, acquired a 3 month old corn snake with whom I absolutely fell in love with. She is just the most gentle creature I have ever had the pleasure of spending time with. A question for people who have had corn snakes as pets, I know generally it says that they live quite a bit longer in captivity than in the wild, but how long do you, seasoned pet owners, find your corn snakes to live (considering that they have good husbandry)? I want to give my new friend the best/longest life possible and I just want to know what to expect in terms of lifespan.
I’m not sure what she does but you usually want to do a deep clean every month where you clean all the things in the tank (decorations, enrichment ext) and replace the substrate.
I live at the top of Minnesota where it's long cold and dark winters. Any special info for keeping snakes up here? I don't have a special room to keep warm just for reptiles. And I keep my house no more than 72 degrees in winter. I'm originally from Florida and I HATE heat. But I'm really wanting a corn snake. Thanks.
I hate heat too haha - pretty miserable in Alabama lately. They can do night time drops of about 72, but you can get a Ceramic Heat Emitter and a dome with a dimmer switch to bump up the ambient temp a little bit. 😊
I just bought a heat Matt and it's told me not to attach underneath the tank and not to cover it with substrate. Everyone I watch places it underneath. Any advice?
im using a light, not a heating mat, so how much light is supposed to be shining in the enclosure? idk what to do @_@ the heat wont go down to 80*F it's stuck at 90-95 help
FrequentlySpasmodic get a heating pad and thermostat. Corn snakes only need light to regulate there day and night cycles. Make sure to put the heating mat under a hide so they have a warm place to digest there food while feeling secure.
Nice video. I use aspen bedding for my corn snake, then I was told by the people I got it from I shouldn't use that cause it introduces mites. I'm new to this so it made me concerned. Still using it and had no problems, and he likes to burrow in it also.
Aspen doesnt inherently have mites. The problem is the place that it comes from. If you are concerned, i recommend finding a local small reptile shop that sells substrate and buy from there. The small shops usually have healthier animals and better sourced products. Their like the farmers markets of the reptile world and are 100% the only way to go. Alternatives can be coconut fiber, you can mix in orchid bark, or even cypress mulch. Avoid anything with any kind of sand, cedar, and pine and you should be good.
Hi, I’m trying to convince my parents to let me get my first snake, I think I’m doing ok! Anyways I found a beautiful motley snow corn snake she’s pink and white and this video was VERY helpful I didn’t know what I should look for when shopping for tank..things, tysm very nice
Real sorry if this sounds weird but you are freakin gorgeous! I’m doing some research because I’m looking to get a corn snake myself and I liked the idea of adding backgrounds so thanks!
You definitely can! I just prefer it on the inside when I can, because it gets rid of that glass glare. It's especially useful for things like bearded dragons, as it help prevent glass surfing. 😊
20 gallon is the minimum. 😊 Our guy is super active and loves to explore, so we upgraded him to a bigger tank. He makes use of every inch of his new tank, but he was in a 20 gallon previously for a long time.
@@nightinggale6470 that’s always debatable because everyone says something different. I have mine in a 65 gallon and she’s doing great! Some say 40 some say 80 it depends

Could you do a video on how you get the backgrounds like where you find the pictures and about how much it’s cost and how long it takes to get back plz and thank you😁
Love that idea! Thanks 😊
What size banner do you got. Because iv got a baby ball python in a 20 gallon long
hey my cornsnake is 5.5 months and i have him in a 24x18x12 terrarium, which size on terrarium do you think it’s right for him? and have i a too little or big terrarium what do you think?(btw he is my first snake)
Your tile floor is great for cutting straight lines. Wouldn't it be better to put background on outside in case you need to disinfect tank ?
Hahaha it probably is. I didn't even think of that.
I just like the way it looks on the inside better, because it takes away the glare of the glass. That's why I seal it in mod podge 😊 so I can still wipe it down.
I love all your tank ideas I’m getting my bearded dragon set up worked on and your tank is amazing so I’m trying to do something similar and thinking about changing my corns to something similar to yours to lol your tank are amazing!!
emma u got snap?
@@garcia6578 uh ya?
What size tank is that
40 gallon breeder
Great setup :) how often would you have to change out the bedding for a corn snake?
Anika Tyanna you should probably change out the bedding fully every 3 weeks-1 month
15-20+ years.
How often do you clean out his home?
Is it safe for the snake to be around the mod podge?
Yes! As long as it's completely dry and there is no longer any scent coming from it, it's completely non toxic 😊
I just bought a heat Matt and it's told me not to attach underneath the tank and not to cover it with substrate. Everyone I watch places it underneath. Any advice?
Have the same tank my set up looks horrible didn’t realise it could look that nice
Fireman Fam love the profile pic 😂
im using a light, not a heating mat, so how much light is supposed to be shining in the enclosure? idk what to do @_@ the heat wont go down to 80*F it's stuck at 90-95
help
FrequentlySpasmodic get a heating pad and thermostat. Corn snakes only need light to regulate there day and night cycles. Make sure to put the heating mat under a hide so they have a warm place to digest there food while feeling secure.
You are gorgeous and stunning 😍😍❤️ cool Corn snake. Corns are my favorite north America snakes.
They are really awesome snakes! I love how active they are 😊
My snake is a corn snake and its like your snake because it likes to burrow as well
Thank you I enjoyed this video I’m getting a cornsnake soon
Congrats! 😊
Elle's Reptiles thank you 😊
Hi, I’m trying to convince my parents to let me get my first snake, I think I’m doing ok! Anyways I found a beautiful motley snow corn snake she’s pink and white and this video was VERY helpful I didn’t know what I should look for when shopping for tank..things, tysm very nice
How big of a tank is best for snakes? (For medium to small snakes)
It's A Juggler's Life 20 gallon for small snakes 30 for medium and 40 for big
How many gallons is the tank?
It's a 40g breeder 😊
Love you ❤❤❤
Real sorry if this sounds weird but you are freakin gorgeous! I’m doing some research because I’m looking to get a corn snake myself and I liked the idea of adding backgrounds so thanks!
Thank you! And I’m glad it was helpful! 😊
My Albino corn snake is always hiding in her bedding
Old video, but I am really hoping you will see this and reply. How can I tell what wood is or isn't safe when scouting my rivers?
Most hard wood is safe but stay away from pine and ceded so no wet wood try oak and apple trees both work great
Holy shoot, I live in Alabama too, in the Auburn area
Awesome! I'm close to Huntsville 😊
good vid thank you
What about water though?
Am I the only one who lovessss her accent 😭
Thank you 😊
I LOVE ur accent, did not expect it 😂
Thank you so much. Most people don't expect it hahaha 😊
I’d like to know how much it costed you to build this!
Your eyes are stunning btw x
Ya I'm the only one in my family that loves snakes
Why not tape the background to the outside of the tank?
You definitely can! I just prefer it on the inside when I can, because it gets rid of that glass glare. It's especially useful for things like bearded dragons, as it help prevent glass surfing. 😊
@@ellesreptiles ohhh I didn't know that was a thing😮. Thanks!
Soooo I’m going to get a corn snake, will a 20 gallon be enough? It’s a 20 gallon 30x12x12
20 gallon is the minimum. 😊
Our guy is super active and loves to explore, so we upgraded him to a bigger tank. He makes use of every inch of his new tank, but he was in a 20 gallon previously for a long time.
Elle's Reptiles ok thank you, so what age should I upgrade my tank?
Diogi Dog corn snakes grow pretty fast so i would say in about 7 months or when he seems too big
Can you give us a update on your corn snake
What camera are you using? The clarity is like I'm across the table from you.
It's a Sony a5100 😊. I love it, but it has overheating issues sometimes.
What gallon tank?
Not sure how many gallons this is, but adult corn snakes should have a 4x2x2’ enclosure or bigger, which is 120 gallons.
@@nightinggale6470 that’s always debatable because everyone says something different. I have mine in a 65 gallon and she’s doing great! Some say 40 some say 80 it depends
@@AxelFoley-sb5re what’re the dimensions of the enclosure, and how big is your snake?
YES! I'm here for other reptile chicks! You rock \m/
Haha thank you! 😊
Shes so prettyyyy
Awesome!! Video
Thank you! 😊
