Thank you very much for your video! You gave me the courage to fix my 20 years old Kenmore HE4t washer. I took the washer apart (top, bottom, and back panels). My FH/HF issue turned out to be the pressure switch. I replaced the inlet valve and flow meter, and it still didn’t fix the problem. I replaced the pressure switch, the hose was still very new looking and in perfect shape. The machine is now working beautifully!
Thank you for taking the time to post this. I can't believe you only have 768 likes ( at the time I'm liking this, 9 years after it was posted). I sure hope the RUclips community shows you some more appreciation.
I am just starting my diagnosis so I do not have a repair made yet. But after watching your video I could only start the process by thanking you first. It is huge that good people like you take the time to help others from the high cost of outside repairs. We all know there are honest repair people out there, but like any industry it's the bad one's that make us all shudder from trying to discern one from another. Empowering ourselves is the true path. Without the knowledge that you have provided that path would be obscured and we would all be lost. At this time of holiday you are helping me to share more with my family. God bless you. Kenny D ( Kansas City )
I had a different error code F33, but it ended up being the exact same issue. The tubing had some wear on it and wasnt providing pressure anymore. $8 for replacement from a local autoparts store. Thank you so much for your video, it was exactly what I needed!
I have a Maytag with this error code. Could not believe that your problem was as simple as a hole in the hose. Mine had the exact same problem. Put some tape over the hole as a temp solution for further testing. Solved the problem. Thanks for making this video, you really helped.
Absolutely the best diy video for this washer. Mine turned out to be the same hose as yours, but not a pin hole. It was partially blocked but restricting flow enough to cause the error code. This entry is packed with good information that is well presented. Thank you for saving me a costly service call.
I see quite a few comments are from many years ago. Well, the info contained in your video Houston is still valid. Have been getting an intermittent FH code for a few years but became worst over the last month. So, after watching your video I hauled the dryer off it and started following your advice. Turns out nothing was actually broken! The flow monitoring mechanism just needed to be shaken, drained and blown into. Seems it was a bit stuck, needed exercise! Also the water fill sensor seemed to have become lazy - had to exercise that by blowing into it a number of times until I could hear the micro switches engaging. Basically that was it, no more FH errors for the next six washes!! Oh and cleaning the toothpicks and dimes out of the trap by the pump was a good idea too So, many thanks for taking the time to document what you did to fix the washer. Much appreciated Merry Christmas Mike L 1Dec 2021, Halifax, Nova Scotia
Thank you, Thank you, Thank you. My washer was giving the failure code of F33, which apparently has something to do with either water pressure coming in, or perhaps the pump. Unfortunately once it was stuck in this code, nothing would get it out of the error mode, and the washer was locked shut with my girlfriends laundry in it :( Using your video I checked the items you mentioned, and all were good. So I reached up and unlocked the door manually, and tried it again. After fiddling around with the controls, it started giving an F11. This error I could cancel out of by pressing the cancel button for 3 seconds, and it seemed to reset to normal. I'm now running through the diagnostics you mentioned, and so far everything seems good. I believe the lesson to be learned is if you are on rural plumbing, don't take a bath at the same time you are doing laundry. I believe it may trigger the "low pressure" failure, and then a bug in the system keeps you locked in the failure mode. Now if I could only get rid of the infamous high-efficiency-washer-moldy-smell problem which all high efficiency washers of any make seem to have. Follow up: Dang, after getting it working again, it did the same thing on a real load. Maybe its over balanced? In any case the video was a big help in getting it out of the failure mode it was stuck in.
Thanks!! This video was immensely helpful. I was able to find the problem with my machine using your instruction. Like someone who replied previously, my issue was a sock stuck in the drain pump...seems to be more common than one would think. After I removed the sock, I tried going through the cycle test but still got the FH error. I then disconnected the pressure switch from the tubing and made sure it was working by blowing into the end. Reconnected everything and re-tried the express cycle... This time the machine worked perfectly...no error! The low pressure from the sock must have somehow caused the pressure switch to lock up. Some have said just tapping on the pressure switch (with a screw driver) also will free it up. Thanks again....saved me the headache of dealing with shady repair guys and likely a bunch of money
I started with the Error code FH then my control board went out a day or so later. Bought a new CB and the washer worked no error code for about a week. FH code came back so I opened the front and checked the drain to find a handful of coins( various denominations) A BIC PEN, and a big denim patch. Cleaned that out and it ran like new for about a month FH error code came back so im going to check the pressure switch now. Hopefully its just the hose. *fingers crossed* This video was way more informative than Sears Parts Direct people. THANKS DUDE!
I bought a used set of this washer and a matching electric dryer with stands. When I hooked them up today, the dryer worked fine. However the washer was not supplying any water and the same errors popped up. In the absence of the owners manual and terrible support from sears, I played around different modes of cycles. Thank God, it worked eEventually, it worked.
For public reference the test cycle, written, is: 1) Hit cancel so display is dark 2) Hit drain 3) Spin speed to 'no speed' 4) Hit prewash four times Cycles thru 8 steps
I had the same F/H error. I couldn't believe the issue ended up being in the hose. Turns out to be the exact same issue for me. Your video was so helpful. Thanks so much for the detailed walk through.
Video really helped me. The other part that that black house is connected to. Not the piece with the red cap. The white part attached to the drum. Was caked with rust and dirt. I took it off. Cleaned it out and the machine is working like new again. This video is definitely recommended
This was wonderful. I thought I was going to need a new washer as my family was going crazy with this one not working. No money for that. But your video saved me. I fixed it on my own, thanks to your instruction. That's a savings of over $700. Sleep well tonight buddy you earned it.
Great video! I really liked the cycle test. After going through the check points, I still had an issue. Turned out to be the anti flood hoses to the water supply. In either case, I was able to isolate the problem because of your video. Standard repair charge: $60 for them to just pull in your driveway or $190 warranty that covers up $500 of costs. So you saved me $190...THANK YOU!!!
What a help! I already replaced the flow sensor and still got HF. I was looking for the pressure switch next because the washer was overfill too. I didn't know about the self test feature; great pointer.
I followed your directions to the. T thank you for the help and I know for sure you saved me $250 because you know it $100 to come out and what I clean and time it would’ve been another $150
Great video!! I was able to fix mine :) What happened with mine was that it shook so bad that 2 bottom shocks came loose, hence unplugging the water temperature sensor at the bottom. I reattached the 2 shocks, plugged my sensor back in, and it went! Thanks again
Thank you for taking the time to share your knowledge. Your video is detailed enough to get us started on troubleshooting before we call in for service. Your video is much appreciated!
Thanks for the video - I appreciate the effort you took to share your experience. Now, I'm off to figure out why my F/H error discharged water all over the floor...
AWESOME VIDEO! Thank you so much, I found a sock in my pump clean out, I never even would have known the clean out was there if it wasn't for your video. I probably would have needlessly replaced the pressure switch.
Very easy to follow, even if the video quality was not perfect. The information was transmitted and appreciated! Great narrator voice, thanks for taking the time to post/share.
Great Video, Houston. My husband and I have already cleaned our screens after watching the beginning of your video. Running a load now and then we'll use an Ohm meter and check the flow meter hose if that doesn't work. You did a great job on the video. You are a very intuitive teacher. Thank you. I hope that does it for us. :)
Thank you so much for this video! I was able to fix my washer by myself. I did not have the money for a service call. Mine ended up being the filter that screwed off in the front. Again thank you so much for taking the time to make & post this video! It really made a difference in my life. 😀
Thank you so much for making this video!! You showed and explained so much... my washer has been not working for a while.. now I know I can fix it myself without getting a repai man invovled.
when you measure the solenoid coil with the ohmmeter - disconnect one wire of each solenoid so you measure the coil not the rest of the washer. Good video!
Great video mines was doing the exact same thing a few seconds into the wash. it end up being the water flow meter/reed switch (comes together) apparently that is a common thing on these washers. easy fix!! .fyi if it gives you the error within a few seconds of the wash its going to most likely be the flow meter.
Great video. Had a to wait because I did not have help to get our dryer from on top of the washer. Had sneaking suspicion that it was the hose. It was. The clamp holding the drain hose and it broke allowing the hose to chafe. Repair cost $2 for the hose. FYI the hose is Outside Dia 5/15 inside dia 3/16 and it is a vacuum line.
Thanks Houston! just because of you and your video, I was able to fix my machine myself! Talk about street cred! :-) Def saved me some money! It looks like this is a 1 and done thing, but maybe consider doing another?
If anyone else has the same issue with the pressure switch hose, I would recommend getting an exact replacement part from the manufacturer. Any aftermarket will probably work temporarily. However, they will most likely wear down over time, even if the hose is not rubbing on anything. Call any local parts distributor with your model number to get the exact replacement.
Great presentation! I'm ready to give it a try! Mine's a Maytag. The front panel looks different, but the codes are the same and inside it seems the same.
Good overview BUT you missed the last step! In the back, where the black hose connects to the white piece of plastic, it often gets jammed up with gunk! Mine was black with gunk! I cleaned it out and the washer works fine!
Thank You! I was wondering how to test things; the Ohmeter visual helped. I'm not getting codes now but the washer's spinning too fast and long, causing scary vibrations. Cleaned the water trap of pen parts, all was well and then wasn't - hearing clacking when rotations get high -- that means the water pump's dying perhaps? When I reopen the water trap, water pours out from the *right*, which must be the water pump side? Sticking finger into water pump, it moves, with a slight pressure - i think that's OK ... how to tell if it's failing/failed? The info about cycling through steps is just *great* - I've seen that nowhere else. Much appreciated!!!
Update. After clearing the blockage several times by applying air pressure to the hose was not enough to clear it anymore, I had to take the diaphragm out (9:09 in the video) and clear out the gunk. Back in business.
well, I have did all those test so far. And they all passed, as the multimeter tested so, and I did the code test. That was like you did. no leaked in my hose going from the pressure unit down to the tub and it is still giving me that old push off..H f code .And it do mean that there a water problem of some sort..Oh and I took off the front plate and cleaned out the pump. made 25 cents

Any idea how to do a diagnostic on my he5t machine when I can't get the machine to turn on by hitting the "ON" button? No one I've talked to has an answer other than to replace the machine. I'm thinking that one of the two PCB's on the display panel has a bad/burnt circuit. Not sure how to test them.
This what checked out? For not having any water in the tub.. Well not much water.. Display code.. F H ..I checked to see if all the water houses where are tight on the washer and the wall unit tested the inlet valves. Maybe I have a bad pressure switch.. Our inlet valve.. Because there not much water going in..And I still get the F H CODE..
Please help cannot fix put it in diagnostic mode no water is coming into the machine keep getting fh error code I've changed the inlet valve and flow meter cleaned the screens on the back and I am also getting great water pressure and still no water also I drained it and then I was told to look at the pressure switch followed the line from the switch to a clear container which seemed to be clogged cleaned everything out of it and still no waster PLEASE HELP at a dead end thank you
kerry wright disconnect the hose from the back of the machine and turn house water valve on to make sure you have water coming out of hose. Some of the hoses are anti flood and will stop water from coming out
Thanks for the reply houston grier I did that and have really good pressure coming out from hot and cold somebody was telling me to change drain motor but I don't think that's going to fix my problem

Incredibly good video covering all issues, including leaks in the small hose connected to the pressure switch.
Thank you for sharing your knowledge - I really appreciate it because i don't have the money for a repair person to come out. Bless you!
Thank you! This is the most helpful thing I ever seen so far

Thank you for a terrific video, Houston Grier! You just saved us a couple hundred bucks, plus we are prepared now in case we need to fix it again.
I replaced the pressure sensor and the inlet valves and nothing 😡and then I found your video 😁thank you
thank you. I appreciate you taking time to make this video. I will not be doing the repair but I will be more alert to the fixing that I pay for!
Thank you my brother it was my drain valve had like a piece of wrist band in it and about 70 cents in change you save me some money thanks again
You did a great job. Informative easy to follow instructions. You're right anyone should be able to follow.
Thanks for the video it really helped a lot. It was easy to follow your instructions saved us from calling a service technician
Thank you for this video I had the same problem. The pressure hose tubing rub against the tumbler and got a hole on it, Thanks again.

Very informative for the casual technician.
Thank you very much for taking the time to make and share this video. It was very helpful.
Thank you man, fixed mine right away
thank u..u saved me money and tons off laundry..
looking forward to trying to fix my washer now!! Thanks, this should help out big time. I will let you how i make out.
Thanks for the great video. I found a sock in the drain pump screen.
Question, my K-elite HE4 does not drain water properly; what if is not the pressure hose. What should I check next? I already changed the water pump
Awesome guide - thank you so much for posting this! EXTREMELY helpful!!
Thanks Houston, Nice amount of info for the fix!
Thanks for the video bud same exact problem on my washer.
If anyone else has the same issue with the pressure switch hose, I would recommend getting an exact replacement part from the manufacturer. Any aftermarket will probably work temporarily. They made by same company
This was such a helpful video. THANK YOU!
Very thorough job, helped.
Thanks for sharing. Very good information.
Thanks for the awsome video! Truly helpful!
Thank you, that helped me
thank you so much !! you video helped a lot !!
Thank You! Mine had a blocked tube to the pressure sensor.
Very good video.
Thank u
chingon tu video gracias
My Maytag Epic MFW9600SQ1, which is supposed to be the same as the Kenmore Elite and Whirlpool Duet, would shut itself off after about a minute and flash error code FH. The drain/spin cycle would work when manually selected. What ended up fixing it was replacing the flow meter.
Didnt run through cycles, just gave me a new code 'dL F' Is it typical that the door lock won't release until repair is made? Just starting the process so not sure what the problem is.

So it was just your hose?
And sometimes if your lucky, it's just the hot water intake that gets clogged behind the filter screen into the intake valve.
Great video.THX
Does anyone have a part number for the switch?
How do u know what ea cycle means?
Thank you!

Thanks for the reply houston grier I did that and have really good pressure coming out from hot and cold somebody was telling me to change drain motor but I don't think that's going to fix my problem
Thanks!!!
This is a made in Germany, i had this for over 15 years without any issue. If it stop working, get it fixed rather than getting a new one.
thanks!
Great video thanks for the help.
