I drink coffee and redbull just to challenge my anxiety for a fight. The coward never shows up! It controlled my life for 5 long years, until one day i dealt a crushing defeat to it. Where there is no fear, there is no anxiety.

Me too! Last year when my anxiety and panic attacks were at their worst I gave up caffeine for awhile and then I was like "wtf am I running from?" I've had two teas today and have been getting anxious but I'm just like "it's just anxiety it won't hurt me"

it’s all about the exposure, man. if you avoid the symptoms then you are telling your body they are dangerous. as someone with severe anxiety, exposing myself to caffeine has helped with a lot of other situations where i thought something bad was gonna happen. rather than run from the problems or take them out, you run at them and try to understand it.

basically: caffeine will make your anxiety worse, but it could also serve as exposure therapy.

Pretty much! The end goal is that we don’t need to do any safety behaviours or alter our lives as we have a better relationship with our body and anxiety.

I understand now.. the exposure therapy is definitely needed & making ourselves grow afraid of the exposure only enable are behavior or response to being scared of something that is actually normal. Therefore, in the long still contribute to fight back the anxiety by practicing exposure therapy..

I had to give up coffee unfortunately, as each cup gave me panic attacks for days! But I still have the odd soda, cup of tea, chocolate. So I still consume a little caffeine 🙂

Coffee is too good to give up so this is good news to me🙌 I talk to my anxiety to try to manage it and stay calm focusing on my heart as I thank it for 'protecting' me. I hope that makes sense❣️

What about the blood pressure anxiety and stress according while taking the bp readings? What are your bp numbers through out the day? Usually I'm below 140/90 so in the Europe where I live is considered normal and healthy, but there are days when I can see a reading like 150/95 and then I freak out even if I know that we are not robots and BP can rise all the time due to many reasons and still 150/90 is not that high to kill me.

Stress and anxiety will raise your blood pressure, it’s normal. It is also okay and normal for your blood pressure to rise up at times. The issues comes when your blood pressure is high daily and for prolonged periods of time. The key here is to keep stress and anxiety down and that will bring your blood pressure down! And to understand that it is okay to experience high blood pressure specially when under stress! Again, it only becomes an issue when it’s chronic and with no identifiable source! Hope this helped!

Avoiding caffeine will make you fear drinking caffeine and it will reinforce negative behaviour. The real solution is to embrace the symptoms of panic and to not feel threatened by them.

Avoidance gets a bad wrap sometimes. If you ran over a nail in your driveway and got a flat tire, would you continue to run over that nail every single day just to PROVE you don’t have a problem getting a flat tire? No. Sometimes it’s good to listen to your body and avoid things that are personally bad for you. Yes we also have to embrace the fear but everyone is different
