One of the things that bug me about the BET & the boycott of the Oscars. Is that somehow black = diversity. What about the Asians? The Chinese, Korean, Japanese, etc. They make up a huge population I the earth, and mostly get cast for stereotypical roles of broken English with accents that aren't even authentic & demasculinizing men! The Latinos/Hispanics? Mexicans, Puerto Ricans, Guatemalans, Brazilians, Nicaraguans, etc. The Indigenous? People of Middle East/Arab decent? Also the people who come from specifically the huge continent of Africa? Nigerians, Egyptians, etc? There is a lack of diversity in Hollywood. But you can't cry over one thing without realizing the whole picture. Plus the bigger political issues about Current Systematic oppression towards minorities.

I'm black. Why should we fight for Hispanics, Asians or other minorities? We have fought for our rights alone in America since our ancestors were enslaved and forced to be here against their will. We have no obligation to fight for other minorities. If Hispanics, Asians etc want more accurate portrayals of themselves in Hollywood they need to SPEAK UP. Being submissive and content with being portrayed in a negative light by a racist media is idiotic, and I fully support my fellow black people participating in this boycott.

She's speaking on segregation. Saying a channel is Black entertainment is segregation. It's good to create black owned & operated TV shows movies & music but to suggest that these things are only for a select group of people is a form of segregation. Also to have a black history month is insulting. Black history should be taught along side of the rest of American history. To say it's anything less than American history should not be tolerated.

Sam Smith is a white man, he won a BET award recently. I believe Justin Timberlake and Justin Bieber even won but that I'm not too sure of. Tori Kelly performed at the BET Awards.Iggy Azalea was nominated and performed. And BET is a white owned company. To simply just look at the name and make judgements is ludicrous. And there is a White entertainment television. It's called ABC Family.

I really wish things didn't have to be like this where we have black channels, black magazines, black awards shows, but guess what? It is, because I'm a black girl and I like makeup, I like hair and I like beauty things and I can't just go to the store and pick up any random magazine like Glamour, teen vogue, seventeen ect and expect there to be some tips on makeup for my skin, or good tips for curly natural hair because all the big magazine brands (most of the time) praise white girls everyday, that is societys standard of beauty. So in my opinion it isnt segregation that we have our own channels, and awards shows and ect, as lonh as society keeps praising everyone else but blacks thats how its gonna be.

There is nothing wrong with promoting things based on culture. In other countries the opposite trend is true. For example, you don't see many white folks being promoted in Asian magazines or media. You don't find products specifically for white folks, or black folks. Because the majority are Asian. That doesn't stop some black or white folks from making it in the Asian media. Just as black folks can make it in any area they choose, in America. You can certainly keep your culture and the products you need. Just don't cry if white folks want their own, for their own as well. If "Black Pride" is OK, then so is "White Pride". But, in America, "White Pride" is automatically demonized as "racist". As would a specifically White media outlet be. While in general, "Black Pride" is encouraged.

    • @theoutlander2873
      @theoutlander2873 6 лет назад +2

Partially, though she did feel the need to add, "as society keeps praising everyone else but blacks that's how its gonna be." Which is not really true. If anything, especially these days the opposite might even be true. And like I said, if White folks do add the word "White" or "for whites" or anything of the sort, there is a problem. I say let everyone have their own, create their own and be proud of their own. There is nothing wrong with it. But let it be for everyone. Sometimes one group is going to be represented more than others. People trying to sell stuff will often promote to the biggest market. It's just a matter of demographics, which was my point.

TO ALL WHO DON'T KNOW: Every group of people has organizations, businesses, schools, neighborhoods, and associations that either affirm them, or protect them. These include White people such Irish, Italians, Polish, Germans, Russians, etc..There are predominantly Gay, Latino, Chinese, and Arabic neighborhoods across the nation. There are Catholic, Mormon, Women's, and Jewish colleges. The list goes on. There are t.v. channels for Gays, Armenians, Arabs, Italians, Latinos, Koreans, and South Asians. So Ms. Dash is WRONG on many counts. She is misleading in her implication that Blacks are the only people practicing self affirmation. She is also wrong in saying that BET and the NAACP are practicing discrimination. Many non Blacks are awarded and employed by both organizations. On the contrary, it is the mostly White organizations that discriminated against non Whites.
I don't believe in calling people degrading names. I don't approve of what has been said about Ms. Dash over the internet. She has the right to her own opinions. But according to what SHE said, her opinion is based upon false information, and flawd reasoning.

Just my thoughts but I believe the reason BET became a thing was because there was no representation of the black community that was given the credit and awards they deserved, simply because the color of their skin took their spot away from even being in the running. Take the spotlight away from a strong group of people and they will start their own spotlight. The problem is that the spotlight was always on these elite group of people, when is the time gonna come.

    • @theoutlander2873

Notice that none of the awards you have mentioned, include the word "White". Any sort of "White" awards would not even be allowed in America. Darius Rucker won the New Artist of the Year award at the CMA's for his "Learn to Live" solo album, BTW. Google "black country singers" and be amazed at who they are. And guess what, a whole lot of White folks buy their albums! a few white folks, mostly Jews have won BET awards, of course. But then why call it BET? Maybe it should be called "Urban Contemporary", or something like that? Why specify "Black", especially if they will Award white folks? Doesn't make sense. As for black Oscar winners, black folks have been winning awards going back as far as 1940 with Hattie McDaniel. Sidney Poitier, Isaac Hayes, Louis Gossett, Jr.,Irene Cara, Prince, Denzel Washington, Morgan Freeman, even the rap group Three 6 Mafia and many others have won. So yeah, everyone actually is included. But they win because they deserve it. They do not need to win just because they are black.

Because if she did, she would know that's there are plenty of white people that attend and are awarded at them awards... She started off with a point that went left.... She also forgot to include that she should NOT be allowed on to work on a predominately white syndicated TV network..."if that were the case". For her to even say "make up our minds" as if we are the masterminds behind this division astounds me. Back to the drawing board Staci.

Stacey Dash is so far removed from reality. The reason why BET was created was to showcase African-American music and other formats that is African-American based and the reason why was because MTV (at the time which was the main music television show) was not featuring African-American videos, thus BET. The reason why Black History month was created was to remind African-Americans and other americans alike our contribution to society. African-Americans contribution is so much richer than what the mass media want to portray which was mainly slaves and maids. African-Americans was inventors and creators to a lot of things that we use today such as the broom, stop light, cell phone but it is never recognized. We wouldn't need a BET, Centric, NAACP, DOVE and other facets that accentuate to African-Americans if we treated as equal like Americans should! If African-Americans were treated as equal we would've not needed Civil Rights movements, civil rights workers who was fighting for African-Americans to be treated as equal to their counterparts, we wouldn't need Black Lives Matters movement to remind police officers and law makers that African-American lives matters. We have to be constantly reminded that we are not equal as our fellow Americans thus we have to constantly create formats and resources that accentuate African-Americans that retain the dignity of African-Americans for African-Americans. As you notice, African-Americans were snubbed by the Academy Why? Because the roles were not subsuviant or showing African-Americans in a negative light. The reason why White Americans don't need a White History Month is because the culture, currency, laws have all been centered around Whites, supported by Whites so why does their need to be a stamp for Whites when they have embedded their signature? Stacey you need to think about what you say before you say it. Why Fox loves you because you are what they love: a person that has no clue about their culture.

+Christina Bennett Well, at any rate, BET was not demonstrating or setting a good example by showcasing ALL types of music by including Black music to various others. Regardless of who is more or less privileged, by only supporting your own clan, how could you get upset at another race for doing that exact same thing? BE the change that you want in the world. If you want White people to go out of their way to help/support/include Black people and other races, then as Black people, we should set an example by helping/supporting/including Whites and other races in the dealings of Black people as well. There always comes that point where someone needs to be that bigger man/woman. Expecting someone else to do something that you are not willing to do is silly.

The oscars are not racist. The movie's that are nominated are picked by a group of individuals who vote on the best movies, actors, cinematography and ect. A good portion of these people are of Africa decent, also if I'm not mistaken the chairman ( basically a CEO) of the Oscars is black. The reason that no black actors were nominated is because there were no actors that deserved a nomination. Sure people argue creed but Mike Jordan was not that good of an actor in the film. All of the emotional scenes were mostly carried by Sylvester Stallone who is more experienced. If an experienced actor like Stallone was not in the movie Jordan might have gotten a nomination. Then there was straight out of Compton which personally is one of my fave movies about musicians but was really just a one sided depiction of the events surrounding NWA and company. The acting was sub par except for the person who played Dre and ice cube. So, yes there were some decent movies featuring black people but

+Brendan Feeley i dont dislike her i just think she is missing the purpose of BET and the BET awards. Also from my understanding she is missing the point of black history month. i dont get how anyone can say black people can be seen as people who play the victim when they are literally being victimised in front of our eyes and protesting, having their own awards because they arent being represented AT ALL and having their own network is not playing the victim its taking control and doing for yourself something that obviously know one else is going to do for you. Black history month is not a double standard it represent the struggle of black people in the past, what ever stuggles or accomplishments white people have had is being represented EVERY other month. If black people wanting to talk about how they use to be lynched, beatin, whipped, discriminated against and now held at gun point for selling Cd's is playing the victim well then i guess the term better start being embraced because there is probably going to be a lot more talk about it. it is 2016 and black people are still having their firsts(first black president) thats kind of a shame. no one can say that not one black person has done something honorable enough for the oscars in those years. And she was quick to say there should be no BET but she made sure she said it after they gave her that check though.lol.

That's because those award shows are in Spanish and Portuguese and award those who make content in those languages. It's not exclusive and doesnt turn anyone away or look down on anyone just because they're not of Latino decent (ex. Il Volo, Italian singing group who made a Spanish album won a Latin Music Award). Because it's in a language that isn't English, it wouldn't interest Americans anyway. It's also very mixed race/culture so someone saying they can't get a Latin award because of their race or background is a little silly.

    • @mdf39735

    • @xxPhantomSoul

+Mathieu Maddox oh I know they aren't exclusive. Many non-black artist have won awards but people just assume they're exclusive because 99% of the awards go to black artists and creators. (which is the same problem with the Oscars except with white people.)
I can only give my opinion on BET but what I think is, it's in English and it's American but the problem people have with it lies in the name. Black Entertainment television. No other racial background in the US has a tv channel/tv shows/movies/award shows with its main foundation based on or around their race or ethnicity in the English language on basic cable tv. Not Latinos, Asians, Arabs, Indigenous. White people don't even have a channel named after their whiteness. Only black people have this plus 5 sister channels. People see it as separation from other races. Which, I'm assuming, is why they have a problem with it.

    • @mdf39735

If you saw past race I feel like you would have a better life. Also, I'm a Christian if you aren't that's fine, but from my standpoint there is not a black section or white section or Asian section etc;. in Heaven anyways racism is a form of hate, and hate won't get you into the gates of heaven read the bible only the righteous get into heaven, and people who just have hate people with a deep feeling aren't righteous in my book now I'm not gonna argue with anyone cause I believe what I believe. People may think that if we were to call someone a black it implies that they are a thug or you should be scared of them or some shit I have no fucking idea about. It's just stereotypical to hear or say stuff like that, which I agree shouldn't be the case for any race. The point is this: race. color, ethnicity, gender, or sexuality can all be drawn back to one thing. There is a reason there is a black history month. I remember being in elementary school and being so excited for February because we actually were taught things about black history for a change. From this exposure I was able to learn more on my own later on. It made me excited, proud of my background. It made me proud to be an American, to see how we fought for our rights. The reason why there isn't a white history month is because most of what my class learned 11.5 months of the year was European/White American History. Thats why I respect National Hispanic Heritage month as well. Even though we come from different backgrounds we still are Americans, and therefore have our own slices of American history. Thats important to share and cherish it.

+obi I assume you're talking about blacks not segregating themselves? They don't. While there is interaction between the races, the different races tend to interact with each other. Haven't you ever noticed in school that the Asian kids usually hang out with other Asians, and the same goes for blacks, latinos, and whites? It's natural to gravitate towards and want to work/interact with those who look like you and have similar backgrounds. Racism plays a role in the segregation because it created the idea that some races are inferior or superior to others and that keeps groups from being able to interact fully because superior groups think less of others.
