I've worked with engineers like Sha. Subject matter experts that have forgotten more than you'll ever know. Glad to share their knowledge with anyone willing to learn. Always been top blokes.
EASILY, the absolute BEST episode of DriveTribe to date! Mike and Sha together are epic. Literally had me holding my breath when Mike was dropping the crank in then in tears laughing about the "cazammed". Great job guys, can't wait to see the dyno results.
As someone who watches Martin & Bex videos this immediately sprang to mind. As an Aussie they all sound quite different, but I had no idea HOW different North & South Brits accents & naming protocols sounded until their vid… 🤣🤷🏻♂️😎🇦🇺
I suppose a man with a Brummie accent is not going to come across many chasms in hi neck of the woods, but we have chasms to spare in New Zealand. In fact, we have a waterfall that disappears into a rocky chasm that is actually called The Chasm near Milford Sound.
The one car I sold with an engine I never had a problem with. fq360 evo-9 450 bhp with some mods. Imported it from UK took 500 days to get cleared in customs cause of a paper. Best and most fun I ever had with 4-wheel drive.
Don't blame the car for a mess someone else did, a reputable shop wouldve checked all the tolerances before putting a new headgasket on, not just the head.
There comes a point on every all nighter build where hilarity ensues. At some point exhaustion turns to nervous energy and EVERYTHING becomes funny. That is always where I call a stop. You end up talking more nonsense than working. And its usually the night before a race, so the sleep is worth more than the couple of hours of messing about. Then we end up finishing in the trailer on the way to the racetrack. Fitting components at highway speeds inside a shaking box is great fun......

I love how he turned Mikes "curesed" question around. Thats a good man with some proper positiv vibes. As a German I also love how Liqui Moly is just unapologetically German. Want an English description on your can? Nein!
As a retired engine builder, I always skimmed the block and would regularly see between 10 to 12 thou removed. Also, I can't believe you didn't face the valves and seats.
They mentioned it a little while ago. Both are on the back burner for the minute iirc, waiting on engine development for the smaller one, the BMW swap I can't remember
Mx-5’s engine is being developed by a con artist company in Swaffham, Norfolk. You step on their property to view their fake mock up of an ambulance and they’ll be out shouting at you. They’ll never get the engine or will but 100k over what they can afford so they can just keep the block. E.g. all the development costs none of the final work.
I’ve spent a few quid having head, block and crank grinds at the Willenhall engine centre over the years, even before they moved from Willenhall to Bilston 😂
Just a fyi, you don’t even need to build the motor with aftermarket forged internals to make that kind of power reliably. Stock block evos are running 500-600 reliably. You could put that money into a better clutch/flywheel.
On Tarmac the Evo should win, on the Dirt the Subaru. Evo's just freaking dominate on tarmac its well known fact, as Subaru's are on the dirt. Both are such great cars with such a great heritage. Miss both of these Makes and Models👍
sorry, but having to skim the block on an engine rebuild is litterally the norm, i'd hardly describe it as something that is "very bad" and of course, when you rebuild an engine, esp a high perf one, the first job after cleaning everything is measure EVERYTHING at least twice!!
That's not what shear stability is, the shear stability test measures viscosity loss after shearing using a diesel fuel nozzle to shear the oil, not limiting viscosity loss due to temperature increase.
This video is a setup! Come on now, Mr engine builder knew the block and head needed machine work when he inspected them. The setup was great - assemble the crank and then reveal the "bad news".
I have a couple of questions. 1 why wasn't the head and block checked before rebuilding started and 2 surely they should be wearing safety shoes in a workshop?

What happened to the 2.0L V10 engine ???
"I saw this and it was bugging me"
That's a man that knows his job inside out, upside down and back to front
He knows nothing, All surfaces are standard check items before assembly.
I've worked with engineers like Sha. Subject matter experts that have forgotten more than you'll ever know. Glad to share their knowledge with anyone willing to learn. Always been top blokes.
Definitely want to see what's next for this build. Sha is unbeatable. Great rapport with Mike.

The way that guy teaches is so inspiring. He's got a positive soul & an attitude I wish I had to things.
"Fissure? Were not ona f***ing boat?!" 😂😂💀
HAHAHAHA...the be before that as well..."innit even a real word, you don't get to say how it's spelled"
more of Sha, absolute wizard and also great to see his banter with Mike
"Chasm" - that word ain't real!
"Fissure" - we ain't on a bloody boat!
....WHAT?!?! I'm dying!
I love how as they got tired the video turned into the finer points of UK accents for a few min, had me dying lol
As someone who watches Martin & Bex videos this immediately sprang to mind. As an Aussie they all sound quite different, but I had no idea HOW different North & South Brits accents & naming protocols sounded until their vid… 🤣🤷🏻♂️😎🇦🇺
british turbo yoda is back
If you know you know 😂
its the tuuuuurbooo yooodaaaaaa🎶🎶
HAHA Aussies will understand this more i guess.
@@sf2372Al, the legend!!!
The growing chemistry between Mike and Sha is so fun to watch! Reminds me of the banter in the early days of Top Gear cheap car challenges.
Firstly the advert segment to content ratio was spot on in this..
this was an excellent video really entertaining to watch you two..
The 'chasm' segment was priceless 🕳
Mike has been turning into a really great personality for this channel over the past years. He just seems to gel with whoever he is hosting with.
I suppose a man with a Brummie accent is not going to come across many chasms in hi neck of the woods, but we have chasms to spare in New Zealand. In fact, we have a waterfall that disappears into a rocky chasm that is actually called The Chasm near Milford Sound.
He ain’t a Brummie mate he’s from the Black Country

I don't even wrench and I want Sha to be my Mentor. What an awesome dude!
Fun seeing how well you guys get on, really makes for a fun and entertaining video ✌️
Sha is such a great bloke to have on camera. You need to include him more often.
The banter between these two is absolutely awesome!!!!
The chemistry between these 2 is magical. Sha is the most wholesome human being! More Sha!
Don't blame the car for a mess someone else did, a reputable shop wouldve checked all the tolerances before putting a new headgasket on, not just the head.
This
probably a driveway job

When I heard, "What can go wrong" I was reminded of Clarkson's infamous "How hard can it be" saying.
Not being afraid to show your craft to the general public is the hallmark of a quality craftsman.
More Sha on the channel!! Such good atmosphere when you’re making engines!!
The banter in this video is S-Tier. lol
Sha is a legend, look at that eye for detail. He won't let it go out til it's perfect, just the kinda guy you want on your project
Molygen can also be seen under a black light because there’s a dye added to help you identify leak sources. There are many perks!
As a retired engine builder, I always skimmed the block and would regularly see between 10 to 12 thou removed. Also, I can't believe you didn't face the valves and seats.
Came to say the same about the valves
Unless they were done and they never said. Can’t imagine they would let that slip by.
Look how rusty the block is! Tells you all you need to know about attention to detail.
Sha is so entertaining and informative. I love these videos.
I absolutely love watching the engine building videos. It's something I really want to do but haven't had the chance...
Love watching people who know what they are taking about, no Mike, not you, the other bloke :)
By the way, where's the V10 MX5? Is that project dead?
They mentioned it a little while ago. Both are on the back burner for the minute iirc, waiting on engine development for the smaller one, the BMW swap I can't remember
They explained what’s happening on the second channel when he was with The Stig at Dunsfold recently.

Changing that silverstone fabric to that tartan looks fantastic in the 620Ti. Bloody lovely. 😍
11:43 This is a beautiful moment of positivity. Thank you.
I've used their wedges for years now after your review! Great review 😊
Why wasn’t the block checked/measured before they started the rebuild 🤦♂️
Exactly. People are just glossing over that lol
came to the comments to see what others said about this, can't find any other comments about this...seems so blatantly obvious.
loved the vid guys, great viewing, Mike youve got to sign Sha, he's a brilliant natural
What a great guy Sha is, hopefully there will be other projects with him down the line. Cheers.
This is the man to be building your engine shar is a wizard
Evo with head gasket issues 😂 How the tables have turned!
Absolutely brilliant. Very funny and entertaining 👍
I’ve spent a few quid having head, block and crank grinds at the Willenhall engine centre over the years, even before they moved from Willenhall to Bilston 😂
A big strong man and you broke him with yellow crocks 😂 Love it!
Two mates working late on an engine build is what the car scene is all about. Just need some beers!
The title of this video is a baseless lie perpetrated by Mike Fernie who wants to have all the Evos to himself 😂
And all the loud crocs
But he got called out so he changed the title
I felt that "Suck it up, buttercup" in my soul. Hey, merch idea! I'd buy that shirt :D
Which turbo is this? TD05HR-26GV-10.5T? (Can't find it) What are the specs and flow rate? Are sock injectors and stock fuel pump being used?
I can watch this all day everyday, two blokes in the garage building an engine with some crocs on
Just a fyi, you don’t even need to build the motor with aftermarket forged internals to make that kind of power reliably. Stock block evos are running 500-600 reliably. You could put that money into a better clutch/flywheel.
There is some proper brotherly love going on in this video :)
You really should show more of the in-depth stuff. I know I'm not alone in wanting more of it :)
7:55, More suspense than a diamond heist and he’s just stopped sweat dropping on a laser or something 😅
Mike….you’ve got the best job in the world!
Why wouldn't you not have checked the block face before you start rebuilding an engine?
@12:36 I wonder if they shot the signwriter that printed "Engnie bay"? 🤔
You 2 are a right comic pair! Great work guys
Make sure Sha is on a lot of videos an Gent and knows his stuff and a natural instinct a thing that is sadly dying, reminds me of my old boss
On Tarmac the Evo should win, on the Dirt the Subaru. Evo's just freaking dominate on tarmac its well known fact, as Subaru's are on the dirt. Both are such great cars with such a great heritage. Miss both of these Makes and Models👍
12:26 Brilliant impression of a Subaru engine running
Dude is so chill
Sha, is a full mix of turbo yoda from MCM and bengineer from trucker tim.
I like this sha fella! Good all-around joker!
sorry, but having to skim the block on an engine rebuild is litterally the norm, i'd hardly describe it as something that is "very bad" and of course, when you rebuild an engine, esp a high perf one, the first job after cleaning everything is measure EVERYTHING at least twice!!
There should be a show with you two and Richard: “Hammond and the two bald men”
😂😂😂 oh mr editor some of those squeeks weren't quite on the button 😂😂😂
Why not paint block before reassembling? Looks rough!
They're on a budget.
I feel like the fella desided to meassure again after watching an episode of daves auto
The precision ruler was funny tho
brilliant chemistry guys
I will watch every Mike & Sha ep. Also any extras you wanna share.
That's not what shear stability is, the shear stability test measures viscosity loss after shearing using a diesel fuel nozzle to shear the oil, not limiting viscosity loss due to temperature increase.
I wanted mike to drop the thrust bearing a second time SO much 😂
Haha you pair of wallies had me in stitches. Sound just like me and my mate working together 😂
I bloody love Sha. What a guy!
The deck should’ve been checked before even thinking about rebuilding
I too have a pair of yellow "safety" crocs 🤣 and my mates said I was weird!
This video is a setup! Come on now, Mr engine builder knew the block and head needed machine work when he inspected them. The setup was great - assemble the crank and then reveal the "bad news".
The evo crocs 😂😂 oml ahahahahahahahahahahagaga
Some great comedy moments in this video 🤣
Sha is a dope guy to have around.
Every car breaking and missing parts.
Rover: 'I've got you.'
Cha is the name that in portugal we have for tea 🤣🤣🤣🤣
I know we are hear looking at an engine, but, when you can see a lathe in the back ground, its hard to look at anything else 😂
Boy and their toys 😅
Surely you would check all the tolerance’s on the block before any machine work is carried out.
You can see the cameraman shaking in laugher haha.
Now we need ben driving the 2 cars at the top gear track
What can happen - famous last words!
Can’t wait to see the test against Martin.
Mike is unstoppable in those Evo crocs. Hide your daughters.
absolutely love the banter!
That Rover has an Almost identical steering wheel too my old Honda Civic vti Aerodeck
Your man card has been
Officially revoked by
Wearing those shoes!!!
🤣🤣🤣😎
I have a couple of questions. 1 why wasn't the head and block checked before rebuilding started and 2 surely they should be wearing safety shoes in a workshop?
Seems like an odd mistake to not check it, hee seems fairly knowledgeable.
Amazing comedy duo!!
Whilst this might of been staged for the video, there’s far better people to watch for engine building
Love the looseness of the video. Feel the pain of no parts 🥹
Don't touch the crank journal with your bare hands! Oil, moisture, nothing you want on a freshly machined surface!
Easy peasy lemon squeezy
This was such a fun episode omg lol
Sha is an unbelievably good sport 👍
