Infinity Tools and Lee Valley both have it in stock. I bought the Jessem lift II this past February, and never looked back. Great lift - from the leveling screws to the tensioning, to the fact that it's a standard plate size...
I am curious what happen with your router motor, the one with an external speed controller? Almost bought one but guess it had problems. Guessing it's gone for good?
JessEm was the innovator of this style of router lift. Would you rather go with the innovator or the copier? And JessEm's machining on all of their products is superb. You won't be disappointed with JessEm.

Incra and Jessem are about the only wood working products I will buy without worrying about the quality. The incra Mast-r-Lift is a great combination of the Jessem (I believe) with incra innovation. No retarded button needed to release the plate, and no special tool needed, because they are magnetic. They also have a version of the plates that are ventilated to allow the shavings to be vacuumed out through the plate. I have found a lot of the products Rockler sells are not only Harbor Freight quality at best, but many times they are rebranded versions of the exact same thing harbor freight sells at a marked up price.
Good review :) I have never used the Rockler, but I have the Jessem Mast-R lift for Incra and it's amazing. So heavy duty, so smooth and so precise. It's a work of art. Have a Porter Cable 3-1/4" motor and it does just about anything. The Jessem is a pleasure to use. Plus Incra has magnetic plates, even better than a "button" :)
Thanks for this! Just the info that I needed to decide between these two. Also looking at the Kreg, but it looks like just a variation of the Rockler…..
I have the JessEm and love it! On the Rockler, I would get some shim stock from the auto parts store and shim the router in the clamp, that should stop the post flex and hold plenty solid.
I’ve had the Jessem Master LiftII for about 5 years now and love it. It has 3 ‘v’ shaped clamps inside itself to hold the router which clamps very securely and no bending of the posts. I’m thinking it was a little over $300 at the time. Not 100% sure. I paired it with a Milwaukee 3 1/2 hp router variable speed. What a beast of a setup!!! I highly recommend this one!!!
If the guide bushings are misaligned after installing the router, then you have over-tightened it. Either shim the router with tape to fill the gap, or purchase the correct collar.
I saw the Rockler design defect right from the start. What were they thinking? That pop-it plate release could be an issue also for an accidental operation while running a piece through. Not cool at all.
Love the review. I have been eyeballing a JessEm router lift. Especially now that JessEM just released their own Pow-R-TeK SR Router motor with variable speed control. Rockler has some cool tools but its hard to beat JessEm on this one.
I agree! I love everything Rockler makes. Their innovation line is outstanding. Since we’ve made this video I’ve thought a lot about that, and I’m wondering if maybe Dewalt doesn’t have some share in the blame. I may purchase or borrow some other routers to test that theory.
Unless there is something new out, the Jessem motor went away some time back. Seemed to have some issues. Although, just looking at their website, guess it is back?
OMG. He was killing me with his obsession with the pop-out rings! LMAO. (it is really cool though) it made it even funnier that the lady never broke out of character when he commented about the rings.
I do not have a router station as yet and that is because I am determined to wait until I can get the JessEm. There is no need to go to the trouble of building something with another brand only to have constant regret.
Your video missed altogether the feature that I think is more important that anything else. The ability to lock the router position as adjusted, which the JessEm does provide. Without reaching under the table to lock or unlock.
IMHO, Jessem makes some quality stuff. I have their lift and stock guides (both table saw and router). Love them. My biggest complaint about the Rockler... it is not a "standard" size plate and does not fit many available router tables tops like my cast iron extension table for my table saw. They kind of lock you into buying their tables. I like my stuff to be of standard sizing so I can mix and match parts.
Thanx for an honest review. Just like you said I would have preferred "high prestige" aluminum inserts to "workmanlike" plastic. But, as you pointed out.. it does not actually matter in practice. Several years ago, my local Woodcraft store had the JessEm Router lift II on sale for $100 less) I could not see a reason to not get the JessEm. In the end I have been very satisfied with my JessEM router lift, and seeing your review convinces me I made the right choice. I spent less money for a superior product. My only (minor) issue with the JessEm is, the inserts are counter intuitive, in that to remove them they rotate clockwise..(maybe a "Canadian" thing)
I actually checked these two out a while back. Came to the same conclusion plus that push button feature is cool, but a possible failure point. Is there a back up way yo release thise pretty blue rings. Also of note, the Jessem comes eith a blank insert so you can cut your own insrrt for your favorite bit. Also Jessem has a lot bigger selection of inserts. so you can find a size very close to the bit you are using. Great review!
Great review guys, I almost purchased the Rockler, but it does not fit my PC7518. I choose the INCRA Mast-R-Lift II. It’s by Jessem, but it included the INCRA 6-pc CleanSweep with magnetic lock. Although it cost more but it’s a higher quality and worth the price. It should be reviewed.
I just bought the JessEm Rout-R-Lift II from Lee Valley (~$300 CAD), which comes with 3 of the red inserts, not 10. I didn't watch this review first, but it makes me feel better about my choice! My plan is to build a router table top that I can slip onto my workmate (with the lift mechanism between the first and third planks), since my little shed isn't big enough for all the toys that I'd like. If that doesn't work, then I'll make a box for a table top setup instead.
I believe someone commented on a post we did last year saying they built it into their miter station outfeed table. Maybe I liked that idea and may do it in the future
@@FirstFruitsDesignCo I like that idea, but don't have the space for a miter station outfeed table (my entire "shop" is in an 8x10 shed that I can barely move around in.)

Likewise I have a DeWalt trim router - here in Australia the model numbers are different DCW600/DCW604 - cordless with variable speed - I have short listed my router lift choice down to JessEm - the offical website sadly does not list my router. Great video, peace out - Ethan - Australia
Thanks, Ethan! I hope your woodworking adventure is rewarding and fulfilling! It has changed our lives for the better. One of my favorite craftsmen/artist/designer is from Australia, Pedulla Studios. Cheers!
Of these 2 the JessEm is definitely the best, I also looked at the Kreg and it too is far superior to the Rockler.. Is the JessEm better than the Kreg ?? I don't know, but for 40% less US $$ I bought the JessEm and it was (is) the right choice for me, I've had it for a few years now.. It still operates like the day I put it in service.
I purchased the Kreg router table with fence system. I reviewed many router lift systems and decided to go with Rockler Pro Lift Router Lift - 9-1/4'' x 11-3/4'' Large Router Plate. This was a $400 purchase, but looked to be the best built lift. As I tried to bring the combination together the Rockler plate fit the Kreg table just fine. Now for the problems. I had an older Ridgid 2.5 hp router with variable speed. It did not fit the Rockler Pro Lift Router Lift. After many phone calls I was told I needed to purchase an adaptor, I made an additional purchase. I called Rockler tech support when my router still did not fit. I was told to widen the base and fit the router with adaptor in. While on phone to tech support the base plate "cracked" broke when enlarging too much. I packaged the whole system up and sent it back to Amazon. I then purchased the Kreg router lift system, {locally} which did allow my Ridgid router to fit with no problems. The Kreg router lift works smoothly and has no problems.
I think a better and closer comparison would be the Rockler lift against the Incra Mast-R-Lift II that Incra built with Jessem. Both have aluminum tops and inserts. This video is comparing a metal setup to a phenolic/metal setup. Still like the video but it’s almost apples to oranges.
So I would agree it’s not a perfect comparison, as the features don’t compare evenly side by side, but as the base model lift from each company and the ones I happened to spend my money on, it ended up being what we had to compare. I really appreciate your input though and should the day come where we can compare the Rockler PRO and Incra one we definitely will!
Do you remember when cars had a crank handle to roll the window up and down? If youre not using a computer controlled, motorized lift, then you're missing out. MLCS Woodworking has had a motorized lift for many years. Its hard to believe people still buy crank handle lifts when you can get a lift that accurately moves in .001" increments, has the ability to store position locations, can bring the router up to bit change position with the press of a button, can do plunge operations using the foot pedal, and on and on. You should review the PowerLift Pro from MLCS woodworking and forget that archaic stuff.
I would never buy another phenolic insert plate. I got the $250 kreg router table and the plate was terribly bowed to the center. Had them send a replacement "precision" router plate. Still bowed. Couldn't even flatten them out with a CNC machine since they warped after cutting. Save yourself the hassle and get a beefy aluminum or steel version and check it with a straight edge before installing.
Rockler is expensive compared to other router lifts especially if its restricted to rockler units, I love kreg, jessem has many units choice becomes a problem and shipping to Uganda from Canada is way out of order.
I know what you mean about adjusting but depth on the Rocker lifts. For the kind of money they charge for those you would think they would be better built.🙄
It would scare me to death to somehow accidentally press that button, and ring pops up with raised panel bit spinning at 10000 RPM. It wouldn't be pretty. Surprised there is not a safety cover for that button.
That’s how I make my spinach and aluminum smoothies! In all seriousness, you’re right. I didn’t even think about that. It’s not outside the realm of possibility and would be a very ugly event.
Totally agree with that though- as was thinking the same. Router dust building up in cavity and the pushing wood along bit…….. boom- ring comes up and I don’t like to be thinking of that happening. Routers are scary enough.
Dam, I am getting ready to buy the Rockler because I have a Rockler top, the opening is the 8.25. I always liked the Jessel better but routing additional inch on top is scary. Problem is that I have the Dewalt 616 and now u tell me it is a issue… DAM IT!!
I had replied to another comment earlier today, and with as much great stuff as Rockler makes, I’m wondering if the issues didn’t stem from the routers. I think I’ll try and get my hands on a few other brands and see if the issue persists
@@FirstFruitsDesignCo Ok so Rockler is telling me that the DW616 should have come with a "plastic shim" in the box that is used to make this router fit. I looked in the box, still have it, no plastic piece. I reached out to DW repair center and the guy could not find.
@@frankrodriguez6424 that’s the first I’m hearing of it. I didn’t have any shim in any of the Dewalt routers I purchased. Sorry that you’re having your own difficulties as well.

What a bummer! I’m glad you eventually got it worked out. Thanks so much for sharing, and hopefully it’s a big help to others!
The Jessem hands down.
Rockler has gotten very proud of their stuff recently. It is good, not great.
Totally agree the JesEm is superior to the Rockler and I like Rockler products but this one goes to JesEm hands down. Thanks for the video…..
You’re so welcome. Thanks for watching and sharing!
Thanks.
I want the jessem so bad. Lol. I'm just leary of it fitting in my table.
@@FirstFruitsDesignCo that’s fair being their base models.
Thanks for sharing
Sure and it costs how much?
@@chris8439just your first born, but by giving that up it gives you more time in the shop with a cool tool.
lol 😂
@@chris8439 the Jessem Master lift is $440 and the MLCS PowerLift Pro is $549. It's well worth the difference in my opinion.
In one year the price of the Jess EM has doubled on Amazon. Wow
I’ve noticed that is the nature of Amazon. jessem.com/ is probably your best bet for consistency in pricing @JessEmToolCompany
I was thinking the same thing
I would never buy another phenolic insert plate. I got the $250 kreg router table and the plate was terribly bowed to the center. Had them send a replacement "precision" router plate. Still bowed. Couldn't even flatten them out with a CNC machine since they warped after cutting. Save yourself the hassle and get a beefy aluminum or steel version and check it with a straight edge before installing.
Excellent advice! Thanks!
Rockler is expensive compared to other router lifts especially if its restricted to rockler units, I love kreg, jessem has many units choice becomes a problem and shipping to Uganda from Canada is way out of order.
Good point, I didn’t consider shipping for those outside of North America. Thank you for your perspective!
The difficulty of raising and lowering the Rockler lift would bother me to no end. Such a strange design aspect of the tensioner.
It’s strange for sure. I’m a huge fan of all things Rockler, I just think this needs more time in development.
I know what you mean about adjusting but depth on the Rocker lifts. For the kind of money they charge for those you would think they would be better built.🙄
I do agree with that statement, but all in all it is a decent router lift that I am able to make work for me. The bill is a little steep for sure.
I'm curious if anyone has accidentally press the collar release button while in use... that would be very bad..
I almost want to set up a shield and record that scenario in slow motion
I do like that button 😂
I should do a follow up on that because that button is horrifying when you really think about it!
The Jessem router lift is a better lift than Rockler lift.
Fact.
@@mikeminnick9712 yes they are
great point..
This lift probably isn't the best choice for vertically mounted applications.
Looks like the cutout on your router table was made by a kid with a chisel. 😂😂😂
Very close! It was a kid with a plunge router! Good eye!
When I see a coupon for it, going to take the 616 to store and have them install and show me….. if it sticks, then they will see it
amazon link to the Jessem was $120 more!!!!!!! yikes!!!!!!!!!
Oooff. A lots happened in a short time.
