I don’t think that machine hasn’t seen any fluid since the soviets gave birth to it!! What a video, very very good. The self control you have is amazing, does nothing worry you. You will have a go at anything, and whatever you do it’s to a high standard. Love watching you work, keep it up. Amazing video and an amazing man. 👍
I believe the "mystery" bolt (with lock nut) located on the brake band housing(?) is a brake band adjustment bolt. If that's what it is, it's purpose is to slightly raise the brake band off of the brake drum, & prevent the brake band from dragging on the drum, when the brake (for right or left side tracks) is not applied. Similar bolts (with lock nuts) are on my bulldozer's brake band housings.
There is something oddly satisfying about watching fluid and filter changes on large machinery and this was the messiest I have seen, but great to watch. Cheers Ants Pants
Yep, what a bunch of metal. The quantity of fluid that the dozer has to shift around means it needs to be a powerful beast! What a huge amount of grease, oil and lubricants! Glad you have the manual but I prefer your checklist, especially 'Don't die'. So, some therapeutic zip line stuff with the family is just what you need. Thanks again Andris for a great video and facing the challenge and might of Soviet engineering!
Another great video Andris. Thank you. Your content deserves far more than 31.4K subscribers. When I view your peer group, your content is certainly equal if not better. Your viewers / subscribers owe you the responsibility to keep promoting and sharing your channel.
Dieselporn at its finest, enough mud to keep an archeologist happy, crud, smelly mistery goo, sticky stuff everywhere, bugs and an ever growing list of new possible failure points to worry about, lovely😍
If you put that old hydraulic oil in a 44 gallon drum with a wood fire underneath and cook it for a number of hours, until the oil separates out the golden colour good stuff from the sludge at the bottom. No need to give it to a big oil recycling company to profit off of. Dont mix the engine oil with the hydraulic oil. But cook both and recycle yourself. This is a African tip. Good video today Antz
Might to be helpful. Have it professionally tested. Grade, compatibly with other oil, contamination purity. Lubercation property’s. Just to name a few. Pre ww2 oil’s did not mix well. Caused sever problems.
@9:05 I laughed as the backup oil catch tray floated away! I'm sorry I laughed but good for you, you had the thick mil plastic spread out to catch the mess.
Another video to savour and it surprised me how easy most of those filler bolts opened , and let me guess,, the Dozer is gonna be Blue , Lovely touch at the end with the children on the rope glide ,Andris,,,,,Pamela,,💐💐
A air needle gun would probably clean those square holes in the drain plugs my friend, those needles in there would clean it out and even rust too! You can tell nobody did much maintenance on the dozer in the past brother! It’s good to see you taking care of your equipment my friend! 👌🏻👍🏼👍🏼
Just sat done and watch this, what you can do with the rollers that need seals is where the plug is to fill with oil drill & tap the plug for a grease nipple
Just a tip from an ex mechanic when you are greasing any bearing, roller etc as soon as you see the new grease emerging stop as after that point all you are doing is wasting new grease and creating a dirt magnet. Also wipe off the excess grease to deter from making a dirt magnet. Regards.
Maybe your next project could be a service pit for working on your larger equipment without you struggling just a thought but could be a good video. 😊 13:34
To bring your trolley back after sliding down mount a car windshield wiper motor with a capstan drum on the railing. Now wrap the line once or twice around the drum & apply tension, the trolley returns with a minimum of effort.
What a wonderful episode, the directions looked so complicated, I don’t know how in the world you understand them. I’m glad you didn’t die fixing it! Your children are so cute!Have a fantastic weekend M8
When you were jacking up the big Russian bulldozer I thought that jack wasn’t going to stop sinking into the ground until it hit Australia. The dozer is looking good. I’ve been watching the news and waiting for a report of a madman leveling off Estonia in a big Russian bulldozer but haven’t seen anything yet. I had an idea for your zip line. You could build a reel for the rope with a handle on it so you could just crank the rope onto the reel instead of standing there pulling it in by hand. It looks like the zip line is going faster this year and looks like the kids are having a lot of fun on it. Hope the family is doing good and keep up the great videos.
Another excellent video Andris . I had to catch up on your video's I had been on vacation. I am so glad Andrew helps solve some of your mechanical problems do you go on his channel and chat with him? I will be looking forward to seeing your next episode. Always a pleasure to watch your video's. I hope all the things you did makes a big difference in the way the machine operates and runs and handles. Until next weeks episode have yourself a great weekend and week.
Echoing other folks - another great episode, both the craft you bring in doing this work combined with the well done video work (loved the inside pressure washing angles, under the dozer shots, etc). Keep it up, stay positive. And seeing the kids enjoying the fruits of your creativity and labor brought a smile to my face.

1:00:00 Ya know, to stop that liquid glub glubing like that, you pour it from the other side; literally OVER the handle. My Daddy taught me that. He was born in 1915 and lived 98 years.

At least you didn't make the rookie mistake and drain it then find out you can't get the filling bung out. 😂 Next time drive it onto some wood blocks to get a bit of height. I have some old railway ties i use.
With your zip line could you make a spool to hold the retrieval line that you could use your electric drill to retrieve the seat. If you made the spool to free spool with a guide to keep the rope from tangling or getting tangled it would keep the rope straight and off the deck where it could get wrapped around someone's leg and it would make retrieving the rope faster . As long as the spool free spooled with a slight bit of tension so the line would flow off the spool without tangling or making a mess to cause the rope to stop the person taking the ride. Using your electric drill should work to retrieve the line pretty fast depending on the size of the spool. Just an idea to make using the zip line easier and maybe safer without the hassle of pulling the cartridge back by hand.
Loved the cussing in your language. I think it translates to "Oops I spilt some oil ". Always happens when draining oil. You can have the best gear available, but it never goes in or completely misses the container🤣🤣🤣🤣 Great channel, Brilliant content. MARK uk

WOW! That thing should run like brand new now! As you know, I just bought a new house. I don't think I have enough money left to buy all of the grease and oil this thing takes. Love watching the kids on the zip line. It's funny, I don't speak the language but I can pretty much tell what they are saying. Kids are the same around the world.🥰PS: I'm sorry you found out I took a crap in your dozer. I'm not sorry I did it, just sorry you found out.😁😂😇

I’m happy to see the bottom rollers we’re good and had oil in them, the top rollers got bad probably due to the tracks being to tight and pulling on the bearings more than the others and the front idler roller gets the most tension that’s why it went bad, you prob could replace the bearings and seals fairly easy, but I think the track tension is to high
I tried to open one of them up. But the thread is damaged and was unable to crank it open. Even the nutbuster crapped out. Your right though about the tension
I so enjoy you channel....you have an excellent command of english....your use of english swear words does not become your intelligence and obvious professional schooling and demeanor!
Those bigger metal shavings you found in gears/rear axle are probably partly from the manufacturing process (poor Soviet quality control). I had an old used up Soviet Lada 1500S once that I got as gift. Had to do a full engine restoration to it, and when I took off the oil pump, it had several big very sharp steel strips from milling of the cylinders stuck to the metal filter. Has to use lot of force and pliers to get them out, but one about 7-8cm strip was stuck so hard into it I had to left it on its place. The shaving almost touched the oil pump gears 😬. So some russian worker had most likely just slammed the oil pan on with milling shavings still inside the engine...
I would try to replace the bearings and seals in your rollers before they eat through the shafts and you have to make new shafts or buy new rollers. I made new shafts for an allis chalmers HD7 carrier roller and sent them off to be case hardened then i ground them to size. This was cheap to do compared to new. They look very similar to early allis chalmers design.
Howdy from the Northwoods of Minnesota, love and respect all. If you drive it up on wood blocks it be easier to get bucket under drains. Hopefully you good for long time on finials. I hated doing the D8 we had. Drain plug was way up above skid plate. You always got a bath in oil.
