Hinduism: Why so many different philosophies?

  • Hinduism has the broadest range of philosophical ideas. There are theistic and non theistic traditions, those that see God as personal and impersonal.
The reason for this variety is that different Masters have contacted different facets of the ultimate reality and delivered descriptions of it. These descriptions provide a framework for the mind to be guided to the same first hand experience of these Masters.
In this video we focus on Vedanta and describe the different schools from the great acharays (Shankara, Ramanuja, Madva), and explain how each one has approached the ultimate reality in very different ways. This sophisticated setup has allowed seekers to approach Truth in a way that suits their nature.

I live in the U.S. where there is a growing resurgence of Christianity. I show my friends and family your videos and it has made such an impact on their perception of religion. Hopefully, more western people realize the superiority of Sanātana Dharma, and if they do, your videos will surely be one of the key factors.

Zaeemuddin Jahanghir عدو الإسلام Jameel Ghaznvi I would appreciate if there was awareness in people to call it "Dharma" . Sanatan Sanskriti or Vedic Dharma. Sanatan Sanskriti is repository of knowledge with human evolution. This evolved with the time and yug (kaal). Dharma has universal application without discrimination.
      1. The place between Himalaya in north to indu sarovar (Indian ocean) in south is called Hindu. Himalya Hi + indu. Makes the word Hindu. Used for geographic demarcation. Hindu kush mountain Hindu river called as Sindhu river all indicated the sanskrit origin of the word. But yes doesn't indicate religion but Geographic. Hindustan is a pure sanskrit origin word. Hindu + sthan. Any word added with "sthan" indicates its sanskrit origin. "sthan" became "stan" in apbhransh and prakrit. Has nothing to do with Persian or Arabic. Read the puran.
The muslim invaders tried to demean the word Hindu with many bad words to show them down and paint them as bad people. This is how racist jokes are created.
      2. Since" Dharma" evolved and led humans from darkness to light from ignorance to knowledge. "tamso ma jyotirgamaya". There was no other religion to compete So there is no name, no rules for bashing other religion and concept of conversion. You can't bash criticize or compete non existent.
      3. This is why got more than 1400 books scriptures on various topics helpful in material and spiritual life and this knowledge evolved with time.
      4. Ayurvda, Medicine, Vyakrna, Natyashashtra, state crafts, yagya hawan ritual, philosophy, astrology, Jyotish, poetics, sangita shastra, yoga, Veda,Vedanta, Puran, Mimansa architecture mathematics to name a few. Books are available on every aspect of human brain can imagine in such a detail that only one book Mahabharat contains one lakh shlokas.
      5. In short Dharma is celebration of the diversity of Human knowledge. Celebrating life and Nature is integral part of Sanatan sanskriti. Hindu celebrate Holi Diwali Chhath Pongal Vaisakhi Sankranti alongside numerous smaller celebration round the year.
      6. We as a layman only know about Dharma as a blind man knows about elephant after holding the tail of the elephant.
      7. Most of us are only able to know what we see on daily basis like nature and creation worship. And on the basis of this we criticize and appreciate dharma. But Dharma criticize none. Dharma don't give scope for criticism but enlightenment and seeking truth .
      8. There is so much more to know. Since I am born in a Dharma followers family. Therefore I celebrate the diversity of human thoughts with ease. Dose not mean i know everything. But once you will know Dharma out of the set criteria of Abrahamic religion for Dharma. You will find nothing to criticize like a blind man holding an elephant tail and saying why he is made to hold a snake. Instead of criticism You will question and seek answers.
      9. For example when you see a survivor on discovery eating dead animal poo and pee either you appreciate or criticize this. But no one can deny that this human will survive the odd. And Dharma have a complete set of philosophy and practicing sect called aghori. However a few. To make sure that the human will survive the extreme. Human will not die out because of the certain dogmas made by the so called civilized society or religion. Dharma supports all accommodates all.
      10. Religion ends at heaven and hell only but the Dharma gives to strive even beyond this. That's Moksha complete liberation. Gives emphasis on seeking, knowing your self deep within and finding your own path. This is the reason from Sanatan dharma lots of ism like Jain, Buddha, Sikh, vaishnava Shaiva, Atheism, came out without any conflict or blood shed. Can you imagine the same with Abrahmic religion?
      11. If someone adopts Sanatan dharma way of life. He automatically fits into the either Varna Vyavstha Brahman, Kshatriya, Vaishya, Shudra according to their profession or Ashram Vyavstha Brahmacharya Grihasth Vanprasth and Sanyas. Together its called Varnashram Vyavstha for the benefit of the society. I can enlighten you on this vedic Varnashram vayvstha. Mail me
Varna division start from us. Our head is our brahma to control our shoulders are our kshatriya to protect us our stomach is our vysya to feed us and our foot are our shudra to serve us.
Another term division of profession. Which exists all over the world in different forms. And this is most scientific division of profession to avoid conflict in society. This Varna can be achieved by your Karma. To fit into Ashram one has nothing to do. Fits in naturally and can stay in any of the phase as long as he wants.
Now it depends on us that we respect equally to our teacher and our toilet cleaner. Which Dharma clearly says respect each and every thing. This is why worship for all not only to teachers. So if you respect your teacher and toilet cleaner equally you are a great Dharmik person. To show respect we must touch feet not the head. Now where you see fault in this varna system. Lots of Rishi like Valmiki, Vedvyas, Ravidas, Parashar etc were not born in cast Brahman but respected worshipped. Cast seems a tribal identity with all the evils of Ego and depends totally on an individual local social environment no support from Dharma
      12. Sanatan Dharma allow an individual to seek truth, follow a path or make his her own path to reach the goal of 'Brahma" the energy and consciousness of the Universe. The feeling of अहं ब्रह्मास्मी, I am the consciousness makes one enlighten and तत् त्वमसी, so are you makes you a Guru.
This is the reason encouraged many enlightened soul to find and make their own path. Thus Jainism, Buddhism, Sikhism, sant parampra like Kabir, Ravidas etc were born without any conflict. Dharma allowed them to propagate and flourish
      13. Comparing Dharma with one book one prophet religion is not a good idea. Can only increase ignorance. Because books of mazhab are small simple and for that for the followers of that particular mazhab only. So better study the world's oldest surviving civilization based on Dharma with universal application, yourself. अहं बर्हमासमी l तत त्वं असी. सर्वे जना:सुखिनो भवन्तु. सर्वे सन्तु निराम्या:l वसुधैव कुटुम्बकम l

Its a living and evolving culture, ideology, religion, civilisation or whatever people want to name it. It allows its followers to think and correct and make it even better. Gives freedom without pulling you back with restrains and false promises and fear through guidelines and laws.

To all Abrhamic faiths, I just wanna say that we even worship stones, rivers, cows, monkeys, snakes, birds, insects, mountains, etc bcoz we believe that creator is not separate in manifestations from creations. We believe God is one, but we don't believe he is in the sky hanging there and watching all from above. haha..Btw why ONE God, we believe in half God, 1/10 God, or even minus infinity God, what's your problem? We don't believe in discreet God, rather we have faith in continuous God that can't be explained in numbers. So better shut up and remain happy with your God without intruding into our affairs. Otherwise you know we will not be tolerant to the intolerant ideologies on the Dharmic principle of Mutual-Respect...Hahaha
What you say idols is actually symbolism which is present in Christianity and Islam too. The only thing is that you keep it unknowingly whereas we keep it knowingly. Now let me tell you why symbolism is important. Notice that I say 'symbolism' important and that too in the initial phase of consciousness, but not mandatory. We believe in evolution, be it scientifically or spiritually, and therefore what we mean by 'Dharma' is not 'Religion' by the Western understanding. But that's another topic.
Symbolism (idolatry) is important for a beginner to concentrate. It's like you need to understand all the fundamental concepts of finite numbers (& discreet) before you try to understand the universal behavior of Infinity (& continuous). Don't you try to master in Arithmetic first before you jump to Algebra? Now this infinity may be analysed in both infinitely bigger or infinitely smaller aspects of cosmos. Therefore we have both outward (Science) and inward (Spirituality) looking approach in Hinduism unlike exclusive Abrahamic faiths which believe only in scriptures and neither in outward seeking nor in inward seeking. The only difference is that we believe in evolution and hence updates and reinterpretation of our scriptures is natural because there's no EGO in our Sanatana Tradition, whereas you think yourself as perfect..Go on..hahaha

nanasshi 07 This approach is not correct. Human beings have diverse abilities and intellects. Plus ppl come from different cultures and backgrounds.
There is only one way for all and that is God's way.
Follow the way of the prophets appointed by God. This is simple and understable by all. This path has been made simpler in its final restoration. That is submission to God humbly, peacefully and lovingly.
By following other paths, one could easily be fooled by crafty priests.
Some priests, rabbis, mullahs, monks, swamis and pundits have devised ways to exploit innocent ppl by taking their money, sleeping with their women, raping their girls, asking for human and other sacrifices, etc.
Come to Islam. Welcome to the way of God and you will find eternal peace, happiness and bliss.. and blessings from our Creator.

The major difference between Advaita and other duality philosophies is that, all the duality philosophies explain consciousness as an attribute of god. Advaita says that consciousness is god. You are not a part of a whole, supreme consciousness that is separate from it but is made of the same component of it, like a drop of water and the ocean, but you are the consciousness itself, manifesting as you.

    • @Shri
      @Shri 4 года назад

But it doesn't make sense whatsoever. Consciousness cannot manifest in that way. Non living things do not have consciousness. Even when we worship idols we do "prana prathisthapane" or installing "prana" into the idol. Consciousness did not exist in the idol before that. So to say that everything is consciousness manifested makes no sense. The biggest problem with Advaita Vedanta is that it is too human centric. By that I mean that for achieving realization you first need to be a human who "understands" consciousness and not any other animal or plant even though they very well have consciousness too. So realization is completely ruled out for them. Secondly, you have to keep rejecting whatever you see in front of you as illusion and force your mind to accept that the true reality is something else (which you haven't either seen or experienced) and that we are living in a false world or Maya. It is a ridiculous notion because it starts from disbelieving everything around you. As if God is playing games with you by shrouding you from reality. Or sorry, in Advaita there is no separate God. Everyone is God manifested. So you are playing these games with your own self. Do you see how it starts to break down from the very beginning? And if you are God then why do you need realization? It doesn't make any sense even from philosophical perspective.

Hari is a name of Vishnu ,,Bol is a Bullshit to fit here.. Sanskrit names of lord Vishnu came from Maharishis like VISHNU SAHASRANAMA.. you can't add one more name only because you love it.. If you are ignorant you must know the importance of all this .. And Iskon creating new shits like this to compete Abrahamic religions..It won't work ,It won't work like that !!

venu venu I would appreciate if there was awareness in people to call it "Dharma" .

      What is Hinduism??
There are some Orphan and Waif records, which Hindus consider as holy, without any proof and without any evidence.
Hinduism is not any religion, it is just assumptions and guess works, by thinker or Sadhus not learned or educated, but in tranquility.
Who ends up in frustration, without reaching true God or religion.
Some thinkers thought, good human are Gods, so try to raise them, magnify them, and connect them to God.
Some thinkers thought big and mighty animals are Gods, as they are stronger than humans and more intelligent than humans.
As these thoughts and assumptions are far dated, they have high end animal roles in them.
Being born in this religiously dark atmosphere, some educated researchers compiled their own compilation, stealing some ideas from other religions and added them in these stories to give them the holy touch as true believing religions had.
Then Jews/Eurasian Brahmins or religiously advanced people, came to this region and took total advantage of the simple natives, and their struggle to find God and designed nameless religion and very soon became the ruling class of this region by creating caste system, and temple and Idol worship, that religion later became Hinduism.
They compiled Manu Smriti, by stealing some teachings of Noah AS (Proof form Quran 11:27 and 31).
Later followers find these religious ideas profitable and to collect the crowds at one place, they started to give the character of these stories a shape and figures and idol worshipping came into existence in this region.
And they started making huge profit in this investment less, effortless business.
Because of this, these a collection of different believes, do not have any official name, or any official book, or any official God.
They don’t even know what a God is?
Hinduism even after 5000 years of history remains
No official God so “”God less””
No official Name so, “Name less”
No official Book so, “Book less” so books by Walt Mickey finds its place
No official Authority so, “anyone” can add / subtract anything and every clever tricky person becomes authority
No official God so, “anything” from monkey to mountain became Gods.
No collaboration and synchronization between Gods and Books
In general this are Orphan and waif religion where God visits earth but did not dictate his book / scripture / law, But Sadhu / Sages flies to skies to get scriptures.
By this reasonless narrations and illogic explanation and childish stories, who Brahmins are fooling ?
Before a learned, educated man can understand true God, theses old frustrated believes trap and engage him.
And trick for fooling chain books continues, you cannot understand Vedas until you understand Upanishads and
you cannot understand Upanishads until you study Purans and then Smritis and then Ithihaas
And the reader will lose the tolerance and close the senseless, meaningless, science less book and goes to sleep
This is how Hinduism escapes reasoning by chain books tricks.
If Hinduism was any religion, all Hindu Gods should talk of this religion by name
If Hinduism was any religion, all Hindu Books/Scriptures should talk of this religion by name, If not ????
You nameless but Hindus are wasting your life and time, against a blind believe, dark future, which never had any existence.
Hinduism is just an organized scam / trap of connecting your pocket with pocket of Pandit, through superstitious stories and applications.
BY THIS LITTLE DONATION OF YOURS IN TEMPLES, YOU ARE CREATING A MONSTER, THAT WILL DESTROY
''IMAGE OF TRUE GOD AND RIGHTS OF POORS''

Long before the three sages who gave us three philosophies, Ramayana explains this very well. One Truth seen in Many Paths shown by our Sages.
The three paths of Dvaitha, Visishtãdvaitha, and Advaitha are explained here clearly in a few simple words.
Once Hanuman asked Sri Rama: “Sri Rama, I want to know who you are, Are you human or Divine?”
Sri Rama replied to him: “First tell me who that “I” means. Please describe about yourself.”
Sri Ãnjanèya answered and explained “Who am I?”
“Dehabuddhyat dãsőham: Jîvabuddhyat tvadamshatah: Ãthmabuddhyat tvamevaham:”
If I am this “Body” as totally different from you, I am your servant; If I am the Jĩva or soul then I am just with you, as a friend; and If I am the Ãthman then as I am yourself, I am everything.
So, the three paths are NOT contradictory, but just complimentary to each other.

It is also important to state that Madhwacharya also concentrated more on hierarchy of the Gods. To give an example, in a school or a corporation, there’s always a hierarchy among each individuals who work there. There’s a Principal, a teacher, an attendant, maid and so on. Each have their own duty to perform. And this runs like a system as a whole. Similarly, in this world, where everything and everyone are somehow interrelated, there’s always a hierarchy we must follow. Where, Lord Narayana is the Supreme form, who has no beginning and no end, THE PARAMATMA, meaning, He is the Supreme Soul which doesn’t need to depend on anyone for birth and death as the PARAMATMA has no birth and death. And all the others are JEEVATMAs, who are dependent on the PARAMATMA for their birth and death based on their karma. But these JEEVATMAs have been there inside the PARAMATMA. It’s just for the good of all the jeevas(souls) Narayana created the universe. All this is mentioned in the Bhagavata, how everything manifested in the beginning. It’s a very deep and a complex topic. And Vedavyasa Maharishi who wrote the Mahabharata is none other than Lord Vishnu Himself! No JEEVATMA can write a beautiful scripture as that except for PARAMATMA Himself!
Also even in MOKSHA there are 4 levels - Saayujya, Saarupya, Saamipya, Saalokya
Just like how our body also has 4 levels - Jeeva (Atma) (Innermost) > Linga Shareera > Aniruddha Shareera > Jada Shareera (Outermost Layer)
Everything is in layers! What a beautiful perspective this is!!

Very nice. Being a hindu and following Sri Shankarcharya philosophy what you have illustrated here is very good. Hinduism or sanathana dharma is all about seeking the ultimate truth of this creation. So there are so many differences are there in each philosophy. But ultimate reality is to get mukti or self realisation or god realisation or becoming one with god.
That is why hindus accept all kinds of philosophies, religion, faith etc.. For a hindu one can attain salvation by following any path that leads to god.

Vedam is truth. Vedic people pray only almighty in different names. Only one way of living. Karma sidhatham. By virtue of good Karma we atain Moxam that is murge in God. By virtue of bad karma we atain sin as a result take rebirth the cycle continue till Athma atain Moxam that is murge in God. Ways of praying God may differ. Vedic society do not convert people of other faiths, they may adopt on their own as people of other faiths too pray God in some other form.

Hmmm. This video has a subtle but clear *bias* against the Advaitha teachings of Shankaracharya. And oh, it is not Ramanooja....it is Raamaanuja. The Dharma Speaks channel is obviously biased towards the Bhakthi traditions, particularly the Vaishnavite devotional tradition. The Supreme Brahman of the Upanishads was replaced by the Bhakthi Vaishnavite movement. Krishna replaces the Supreme Brahman in the Bhagavad Geetha, with Krishna claiming to be the One Ultimate Truth. A false claim by a mythical God, which is why the Geetha is an awfully confusing book. Truly, Hinduism has become so confusing because of all the distortions, and all the various philosophies. It is difficult to know whom to believe. All I can say is that the Upanishads gave me a spiritual awakening that the Bhagavad Geetha never did.

On broad observation advaitha, dvaitha and vishistadvaitha are not contradictory to each other but they are steps to reach ultimate moxa

They clearly regressed in their perception, as the Kali yuga progressed, ideologies and religions emerged, each further away from the truth, than the earlier. As we move away and upwards from the Kaliyuga of contracted perceptions, we shall be going back to the truth, and no Abrahmic or psuedo dharmic made-ups shall be able to stop it. A drop of water, when merged in vast ocean, cannot be told apart.

I am not Hindu because I was born Hindu. I am Hindu because I wanted to be honest and scientific. Could not find anything even close to Vedas.
    **********************************************************************************************
    DHARMA:
Don't just believe only because others believe or say so....be a seeker! Reach the conclusion on your own. Find the answers yourself. That's what I love the most about Hinduism.
    "Philosophy decides goal of life
Goal of life decides ur lifestyle
    Lifestyle decides ur habits
Habits decide ur wants and needs
If your philosophy is disturbed, everything gets disturbed!"
Although it's not so easy to explain Dharma, but let me try in capacity of my understanding:
Dharma is based on Righteousness which in the core is based on the principle of "Minimization of Harm". Harm of what? Harm of 'Prakriti' which is neither 'aatman' nor 'brahman' bcoz aatman and brahman can't be harmed or unharmed. Prakriti includes everything in our behavioural life that we have to deal with, both living & non-living. So it includes Human society and it's Dynamic Value System, Animal Kingdom, Plants, Water, Soil, Sunlight, different Celestial bodies and everything remaining in this physical world which I might be missing here.
Making it more simpler, I would like to explain it one line or two:
First analyzing one's strengths and weaknesses according to a given dilemma situation of either conflicting responsibilities or non-conflicting responsibilities (that need to be prioritized), one should take that decision (or even at least think of it because one's intention also comes in his/her Karmic fold) at that moment in the capacity of one's intellect, experience and understanding; which would bring the maximum 'benefit' to the 'Prakriti' in whole for the larger amount of time possible. Now this 'harm' and 'benefit' requires a very detailed subjective analysis that changes from one situation to another. Dharma evolves with time on the principle of 'least harm' and harm from challenges that also keep changing with time.
For an example, let us take about 'peace'. Today to maintain peace in this age of war of faiths and civilizations, Dharma too has evolved by eliminating the principle of "One way Tolerance irrespective of what comes in return" and adding the concept of Poison Pills like Mutual-Respect and even Scriptural changes based on some minimum qualifier i.e., Mutual-Respect.
Take any other real life examples like Vegetarianism, Best World Order, Democracy, Economy, Corporate Dharma, Feminism, Freedom of Expression, Diversity in Unity vs Unity in Diversity, etc and try to critically analyze it, and you would understand what Dharma is indeed.
