Engineered the hell out of an Imperial Eagle... still a WIP... I am going to take a break from the Rant videos, as there is a lot of negativity at the moment, and I dont want to feed it. Constructive Criticism is one thing, but too much hate at the moment (forums)
Lahu 3c. Beautiful blue moon with canyons everywhere. Taking my 920+ M/s viper in there once complete. No shipyard in system. Closest system to Lahu is 3.3 LY away (Antliae Sector JC-V C2-12) with a shipyard 500k Ls out at Oltion Base. If you don't want to fly 20 minutes in supercruise, I'd suggest landing in Daesitiates at Ellis Gateway (Coriolis with Shipyard). Jump path from Daesitiates would be DaesiHR 4721Antliae Sector JC-V C2-12Lahu. Bring a fuel scoop to gain fuel between jumps. Klein's Exile has refuel, repair, and restock in the same orbit as Lahu 3c. From your friends in The BroCast, Brobar and Starstone Enterprises.

Those of you who can’t cut it to graduation will still be the best of the best. As pilots in the United States Navy, you are no doubt used to flying with the best. But those pilots, however good, are not the best of the best. They are only the rest of the best. And while the rest of the best are good, they’re obviously not as good as you, the best of the best. Even the worst among you here at Top Gun, or the worst of the rest of the best of the best, are better than even the best of the rest of the best.
Many of you are probably wondering who the best pilot here is. That plaque back there is where we list the Top Gun for each class, or the best of the best of the best … of the best. There can only be one Top Gun per class, so don’t be hard on yourselves if you only wind up being the rest of the best of the best … of the best. You’ll still be better than those I mentioned before who couldn’t cut it-the rest of the best of the best-and, of course, better than the Navy pilots who weren’t even invited to Top Gun in the first place-the rest of the best.
So, to recap: There’s the best of the best of the best of the best, or Top Gun. Then there’s the rest of the best of the best of the best, which is everyone who makes it to graduation and who was previously only the best of the best. Then there are those who couldn’t make it to graduation-the worst of the best of the best, who are still better than the best of the rest in the Navy. Simple.

Ha! Just engineered ieagle last night myself and did faoff speed runs of planet's surface. This to me is where the most fun is to be had in the game. Small boat big balls

I knew when I was going to pankcake, but there wasnt much I could do.. have to time the boost cycle perfectly. :)

The imperial eagle and the viper mkIII coded boost speed is 400m/s (this is the max). You get this value if you use a drive with 100% optimal multiplier (for example 3E thruster with 80T). To get the best you must go below the minimum mass, which will give the maximum speed multiplayer. This is 116% for A thrusters, but 160% for enhanced thrusters, and the mass for this is 60T for normal and 70T for enhanced. So a light unengineereed imp eagle eagle boost to 640m/s. Using dirty drive gives +64% to this, but lower the minimum mass to 61T. So a 60T imp eagle can boost to 896m/s. But you can also add experimental effect Drag drives which adds an aditional bonus to boost speed increasing it to 921m/s.
So what you need?
Imperial Eagle or Viper mkIII with grade 5 dirty drive engineered 3A enhanced performance thruster with drag drives experimental effect, and reduce its overall mass below 61T (stripting, D modules, low weight engineering)
This is all just flying fast in a straight line though. Sure, the term canyon running isn't wrong here but still I suggest going around some turns would be way more enjoyable both to fly and to watch.

You could outrun PA shots in that thing. Within 4 seconds be out of range of nearly all weapons.

Is this really the limit? Can you push it further? Legitimately interested as to whether or not this is as fast as we can go with engineering?
I might be able to squeeze a little more.. but not much.. I think I can get the viper higher, but I am not sure, on paper the numbers seem to say it can, but in reality, its not reflecting the on paper result. I would love to break the 1,000 m/s barrier, but I think I am asking too much there.
Current min/max brings top speeds to around 928-932 M/s. So close to 1k but still so far.
Joshua Baird I've seen a video on youtube of a Corvette going at 1000m/s but it was using a little trick: there were teo people with fdls shooting at it Witch force shells. It's kind of cheating a little but I think we should try.

You're pointing below level for most of the video - tapping vertical thrust during boosts?
Pointing below gives me a clearer view of whats ahead, while balancing it out using thrusters. Thrusters are everything, I was maneuvering mostly with my thrusters.
when you fly faster than the terrain generation engine can render the canyon.... you're going too fast
I haven't played the game yet, how difficult is it to fly through a canyon like that? As someone who wants to get into the game, having something like this within it seems like a huge draw.

Great run! At about 2:04 when the no weapon groups warning comes up... Was that from accidental hitting your trigger because you thought you were gonna eat that outcropping?
I have a fire group set to my pinky.. and I have a twist grip setup for Yaw, I gripped and turned it tight and accidentally hit the pinky button ;)

Impressive faoff flying but i feel like it would have done better with commentary. Also, has a faoffed well using mouse and keyboard? I feel like controlling pitch and roll is a real pita.
At these speeds getting so close to the canyon, my concentration was 100% in timing my boost cycle and avoiding hitting anything.. lol.. I dont think I could have done a commentary too.. but I will try next time... I am sure someone has done something similar with a keyboard and mouse, but none that I know.

Stripped the eagle, used lightweight engineering mods, then engineered the thrusters with level 5 dirty drives and put the smallest fuel tank in. I might do a build video once I have finished engineering it.

You actually reached the top speed for this ship, I got 921 too last night, I can't maintaing that speed as much as you did though, is flight assist off helping out in this?
I think so, it will still slow you down to "cruising speed", after a boost but not as quickly as with FA on.

No shields either
It's not hard. Ieagle or Viper mk3, empty optionals, hardpoints and Utility, Maxxed G5 dirties with Drag Drives, 1c fuel tank, 2d power plant, D rate sensors, life support, Power distro and FSD. Pretty much set. Engineering wise other than the Thrusters you'll want to lightweight the sensors (Ieagle) that'll get you pretty much max fast. Viper takes some extra lightweight engineering but can get there also. Differences between the two is cruise speed and class size of the Life support, Distro and sensors. Viper is about 50 m/s faster there and has one class larger Distro. Boost speed is the exact same for both.

Looks just horrible and crappy frame rate and I don't get people not telling it as it is. Elite Dangerous doesn't look that good like some go on about, played it for over 2 year so I know.
The video quality is what is making it seem worse. I will try another run on another planet with better settings.
