The first time I installed Linux it was slackware. I had to recompile the kernel to get my graphic card to work. When I was done I didn't really know what to do with it so it ended there.
But Linux has always remained in the back of my head and as the ecosystem lockin of Apple Google and more and more Microsoft grows ever stronger and the respect for privacy dies more and more I feel Linux becoming more tempting than ever.
OpenSUSE seems interesting. I think I will start there. Wish me good luck.

I use the distribution that comes with the Raspberry Pi 5. What does that say about me?

I don't agree with your take on Debian.
Debian is for people who place a strong emphasis on stability, even to the point of forgoing newer features and using a slightly older, and more tested base. The Debian repositories are also huge, so compiling from source is rarely, if ever needed. Additionally the importance placed on free software has become less pronounced in Debian over the years, with non-free firmware now being installed by default, which as a Debian user is a welcome change in my opinion.

Arch is Individualist? The forums are full of morons, yes but it's a community driven distro. Even if it's a large portion of bad apples
