Lesson learned from this video. You have two scrap pieces. You can weld them and create a bigger scrap piece.

I confess that in more than 30 years in the field of mechanics and auto parts, I had never seen a steering gear break like this, normally there is wear and tear on gears, bearings and bushings.

The weld may be satisfactory for the amount of torque and vehicle used. Or at least last until a new part is available. Aircraft parts that have weld repair are ultrasound/x-rayed.

How can it ever be "better than new"? Look closely at the welding. There is very little "penetration", the root weld is hollow with lots of slag left behind and the actual welding technique leaves a lot to be desired. There is no way that this will even be anything near as strong as when it was first made.

Considering the potential risk to absolutely everyone who ever comes with in 100 yards of this vehicle on the road, I would say going the cheap route and saving the 400 or 500 Rupee (Less than 2 dollars) over buying a new Gear. The owner of this vehicle and the shop that performed the work are complete Morons. Stupidity at this level should be criminal... Oh wait it is Criminal in most developed countries.

This steering box appears to be from a heavy vehicle, ie semi tractor. It probably was broken during a wreck so normal loading would never break it. The logic here is probably that it would never stress the repair during normal driving. However….. stress on the DRIVER or passenger or anyone knowing of this repair would be enough to avoid this vehicle forever.

I don't know if you're English or American, but there is a factor called "material fatigue" that can occur from misuse or overuse.
I have repaired many "Leyland" brand bus axle tips (Made in ENGLAND) and they broke not necessarily because they were Chinese but for the reasons I explained above.
I think the only trash we can talk about here is your arrogance.

@@Fernando-dv2ogYou got my "like" for the respect not content reasons, though.
I never ever faced such an issue with German , US or British (Sheffield) made ones . As for my alleged "arrogance", I bought a graphics tablet of CHINESE manufacture. I've been so far an "orthodoxically" user of several tablets of a well-known American company that earned a monopoly position in the market for many years - which was honestly deserved for its quality and reliability. The Chinese tablet, to my absolute surprise, turned out to be of the same quality and durability of workmanship yet having better and more numerous features - but with the price ratio 1:5 in favor of the Chinese.
Is this really how " biased, arrogant nitwit" behaves as you suggesting?
      Best regards.
