- Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his party, the BJP, are exceptionally popular in Northern India, but the contest in the south has always proved difficult for the party.
Modi doesn’t need the south to win a majority. Nevertheless he is determined to change that, campaigning heavily in states like Tamil Nadu. But will it make a difference?
India's 2024 general election is being held over six weeks between 19 April and 1 June and will be the biggest the world has ever seen.
PM Modi is hoping to win a third successive term, but opposition parties say Indians face the loss of many freedoms if he stays in power.
The BBC's South Asia Correspondent Samira Hussain reports.

I agree with & share Tamil @ Dravida Kazhagam’s values but DMK over representation in MP & MLA seats will lead to their complacency. As of now they virtually have no substantial rival in TN. BJP could become a sound challenger!
I can see they are gaining ground here but not enough to win 5 to 10 seats however they might succeed in double digit voting percent
BJP never came up in Tamilnadu due to various reasons:
1.BJP Always try to disturb and Control through Governor against State Govt elected by People.
2.BJP always against Social Justice for poor and Backward Class People.
3.BJP try to push one Language/ One election / One religion Policy.The above policy not accepted by Most people in TN.
4.BJP never bothered about Poor and Middle Class People.
Ex: Gas Cylinder Rate hiked from Rs.410 to Rs.1000.
5.BJP never Support for any National Calamities happened in TN.Ex:Recent Cyclone in TN BJP Govt not Provided single rupee tilldate.
That is language of DMK. All of these are lies and can easily be countered. But talking to brainwashed is of no use.

Only 6.90 cr speaking Tamil
And you are talking about language issues
You are comfortable to speak English
But you have an issue with hindi .
What hypocrisy due to your attitude india did not have an official language in the UN . PM Modi's mother tongue was gujrati but most voices came from non hindi speaking states work for india not for your dirty politics.
