I often think about this! I just know little me would of been obsessed with it, especially compared to some of the other 2000s kid shows I used to watch lol
As an American, I’m mad at some things being overly censored (banned Bluey episodes) while others are under censored (porn being too easy to access that kids can stumble upon it).
Yeah Disney really should not be censoring so much stuff and certain elements of this show, I mean it’s a KIDS show, it should have never been censored in the first place.
Definitely, speaking as an American teacher. It really shows which of the kids have unfiltered unlimited internet access. I have a 2nd grader who watches Hazbin Hotel (has onscreen sex, death, bdsm, and constant swearing.)
@@goblingoosedo the parents of the child know and/or care? Because I personally watch it (I’m in a reasonable age group where my parents say it’s okay as long as I don’t go looking at p*rn or anything) and my younger sisters know about it but I’m obviously not allowed to show them anything with the bare minimum of cursing from the show (which is reasonable). But I also know some kids’ parents that just don’t care what there kids watch or see online.
American mom here: my kids were watching Bluey and I was walking by during a scene where Muffin's mom told her to show Aunt Chili her thongs. My head popped back in so quick 😂 I know other countries have different words for different things. I just didn't know the thing/flip flop thing lol
Just a little note- Dingos and domestic dogs are more closely related to each other than they are to wolves... So the biology of it matches fine! How they managed to actually get a dingo and dog to mate is another question entirely, though may have also just happened by accident.
Well, actually, dingos are a feral (not originally wild) dog breed that was introduced to the continent by the first Indonesian voyages that reached Australia.

I may not be from Australia (I’m from the US) but i really enjoy bluey, it’s a cute wholesome show for all! I don’t have kids, but i still enjoy the show (plenty of people who don’t have kids love it, because it’s like a comfort show for them) I’ve only watched a few episodes, but i enjoyed them. I’ll be sure to watch more when I can. I’ve also seen people say that some characters in the show are neurodivergent (Autism, ADHD, etc) and as an autistic, dyslexic, epileptic, and possibly ADD person…I love this! I’m sure I would have loved Bluey if it was around when I was a kid. Anyway, great video as always jelly!
Bluey needs to have it's own special shorts of what's that mean because that was adorable and would actually be so cool for international viewers and help them understand our whack slang
To where we can't stream it and it's fault potential cause of Disney+'s regional censorship, they even skipped that entirely heartwarming birth episode 😢

As an American,I didn’t know about the Australian slang in bluey feeling silly to Australians. Although, now that I think about it, if bluey were American and she said “there’s a new kid at school, she’s such a beta though” or “oh my gyatt bro!” I would definitely cringe, gen alpha slang already makes me cringe in real life though, I even felt weird typing it😅
The concept of "cultural cringe" is also just a really big thing in Australia, most tv having British/American accents makes those accents feel like "tv language" so hearing American accents irl is jarring and aussie accents on tv equally cringy for some, it feels like it doesn't belong there
Dingoes aren't technically native. They weren't even introduced with the arrival of Australian Aboriginies, they came after that ("only" about 3.5-7k years ago)
I am in my 40’s and have no kids of my own, I work in the education system. A friend of mine suggested I watch Bluey with my baby niece, I screened it to make sure it was safe for her and fell in love with it. Bluey is now part of my family, but the biggest take away is that Bluey has brought a lot of healing and understanding to our family because of the values that Bluey promotes in its show. I also feel like a more effective educator because of Bluey. Nice work Bluey, and to those who spread Bluey’s message, we are all better because of you.
I'm in my 40s and absolutely love Bluey. In America and Canada there's really no shows that show a good family like this with a fun mom and dad, most are about dad's that have drinking problems or aren't present at all, they are the butt of most of the jokes. Bluey is so refreshing and fun. The one where Bingo dreams about her mom being a big sun made me ugly cry 😂
Coincidentally I just watched Pugly's videos about Bluey (which got me interested in the first place) before your video got released. At this point I'm getting more and more interested in this show but I dunno where to begin!
Use "Sleepy Time" and "Flat Pack" as jumping on points. Both in season 2. Sleepy Time first, will show Bluey's uniqueness and perhaps remind you of older cartoons, especially with the amazing use of classical music. Flat Pack will show what can happen in a basic 7 minute episode with a game, but told to it's peak, with an original musical composition that does not let up once it begins and feels incredibly cinematic. From there, the Blueyverse is yours to explore, just remember to not jump instantly to The Sign. Use that as a build up. If you want to get there in the shortest way possible, I'd recommend: Baby Race (I won't say why though), Double Babysitter (introduces you to Rad and Frisky), Army (for a payoff), Sleepover (introduces you to Muffin), Onesies (for a payoff later), Calipso, any normal Grannies episode (Grannies, Buss, Granny Mobile), any Bingo centric episode (Bingo, Favourite Thing, Handstand), but the absolute key thing is, remember to end your watching with, Ghost Basket followed by The Sign, in *THAT ORDER*. Ghost Basket is a granny episode as well which is why you need to be introduced to that persona beforehand, and as for The Sign, I am going to give you absolutely no spoilers. The thing is, my guide might not be the same as everyone else's but I am hoping I've covered enough bases for you. I'd honestly though, explore the Blueyverse at your own pace but end with Ghost Basket and The Sign, Surprise is a nice pallet cleanser as well.
@@georgia2156 Indeed, that too. Honestly anyone can explore the Blueyverse in whichever order although building up to The Sign I think is necessary due to the callbacks in that episode. But there isn't a full blown, cerialized story arrc throughout the whole entire series at all, but nice tidbits.

Around 2018 I was doing a bit of audio editing work for my step-dad's business and got assigned a job that was basically just cutting the usable lines out of a recording session and exporting them with a reference number matching the number on the script (it was scene # line # I think, so scene 2 line 14 would be S2L14 or some such, might be misrembering 😅). It was actually some really early bluey material, which makes sense because my step-dad was doing some contract work with the ABC at the time. I don't think any of the material made it into the final show (unless there's an episode about the kids pretending to be fire-fighters?), and the kids in the audio I edited didn't sound like the voices in the show now but it's still kinda neat that it crossed my desk for a bit of tedious editing work and years later it blew up enormously.
You know what’s really interesting? Back in my childhood, I use to watch a cartoon on Nickelodeon called Rocko’s Modern Life in which I found very rare among other American cartoons that use to stereotype foreigners of their background. Rocko, the title character was like really unique compared to how Americans depicted Australians in their cartoons, this one I found was politically correct for a cartoon I found on Nickelodeon, the others were just parodies of Crocodile Dundee, which was a movie that I never really got into.
I play snare drum in my highschool's marching band and every friday night after the games I catch myself saying "My back! My neck! My back *and* my neck!"
English is not even my native language and I know nothing about Australian culture so I never got any of these references! I just got the australian slang by context, and I guessed the nature and relaxed lifestyle was simply because it was a cartoon never thought that it actually showed the australian lifestyle. I felt this part so bad 05:30 It's so nice to get to know more about your country! Kisses from Spain :D
Started watching Bluey with the kiddo cuz they kept cycling Trotro and didn't seem to take to Peppa Pig anymore (though they love George) and they ended up liking it and asking for it second when I say no to Trotro. I really love Bluey because it's really an occasion for different vocab and accents as well. It's also extremely relatable for both my three year old and us adults.
Bluey was not around when I was little, but I remember watching it one day because all my mums students would talk about it to me whenever I would stop by her classroom after she finished teaching. I remember I absolutely fell in love with bluey because as an Aussie it reminded me so much of my childhood. I am an older sister and when I was little me and my younger sister would always play together and make our parents join in as well sometimes! It took me back to those days and now it’s my comfort show lol, not to mention since I lived in Brisbane when I was young all the places bluey visited where places I had also been!😆

4:37 i actually have a classmate that has a bit of a Australian accent because of bluey (were Filipinos) he was actually the one who encouraged me to watch Bluey and im developing a bit of a Australian accent his personality is actually like Bluey but as a boy, he has Adhd but i have Adhd too so were preettyyy fun to hang out with
random fact but dingos are not native to Australia, they were however one of if not the first introduced species which is why they are often considered native. scientists are not entirely sure of when they first came to Australia but estimate it at around 3,500 years ago based on DNA evidence.
I was one of those kids who watched to much American TV and had an American accent when I was little but now it’s more like a watered down Aussie accent. This show really is so amazing at capturing the Aussie culture and I adore it
What a great commentary on Bluey! I am Australian and I was introduced to Bluey by my granddaughter who was 2 at that time. She loves the introductory music of the show.
as someone who over analyzes shows (and as someone who's from Australia) I really like Bluey, not only because it reminds me of my own family on my dad's side, but also because it's a good show for kids, yet manages to add subtle things that show that sadder or darker things happened in the past that may not be showed or stated directly in the show.
Ah yes, been waiting for the day, you mate, made a video about this MASTERFUL series!!! First knew your vids by your storytime sections and became a fan ever since; from the distinctive style to your unique personality and humor style (also love your accent XD), and now I notice "WACKADOO, IS THAT JELLY TALKING ABOUT BLUEY?!!!”. Heh, guess dreams do come true, and couldn't agree more, THIS SHOW IS A TRUE MASTERPIECE!!! (HUGE fan, deffo amongst the best series EVER!) AND THIS VIDEO IS TOO!!! FOR REAL LIFE!!! What a lovely video this was!!! 💖💖💖 (OMG, I ALSO GOT 3/3 on your game, and I'm mexican, so HOORAY!!! 🤣🤣🤣)
It's set in Brizzy? That's where I am. Awesome! I've never watched the show but since I've recently heard that it's got fans globally and as you just bought to my attention it's set where I live then I have to check it out. Great video mate! :D
as an Aussie u also have to love, that its Aussie made, produced and owned....only companies like BBC and Disney have distribution rights in other countries and regions (which FUN FACT: Disney tried to get the show to be more Americanized, which of course the owners said no!!) edit: also their are Bluey for adult fanclubs online espeically FB, which i'm apart of)
I just woke up and I found this video. Thank you for making my day, I am a huge Bluey fan🤩🤩🤩🤩. Oh and I scored 2/3 on that slang test. The first one stumped me 😅. Anyway, hope your doing well, make sure you get some rest, and have a good day 😄😄
In the event that i decide go move countries, Australia is honestly up there around spot 1-3 even with the crazy wildlife. Bluey did bring it up in score
I was born in England but had half of my parents Australian. We now live here in Aussie. I am proud to be a F.I.R.E carrier (Friends igniting reconciliation through education) witch means I get to learn about aboriginal culture! One of the things I have learnt is that the ‘dijerydoo’ (I have no idea how to spell it) is actually called a watakary. (again no idea. (If you sound it out you get the name))
when i heard u say 'hearing the shows say australian slang that way kinda makes me cringe' i jumped cause i actually rlly love it when they do that?? ( as a non-australian )
Fun fact: Dingoes are actually able to hybridize and produce fertile offspring with domestic dogs due to the fact that dingoes are, technically, just a super old type of pariah dog. A pariah dog being a type of feral dog that while once domesticated by humans, has since developed a specific set of looks and traits that help it survive in the wild, rather than suit itself into human households. This is why dingoes today are actually at risk of extinction due to a massive amount of crossing with domestic dogs, very few dingo populations now are pure dingoes and rather most actually are dog x dingo hybrids.
"arvo" meaning afternoon sounds new to me, though i thought everyone knows thongs mean flip-flops. y'all calling a cooler box an "esky", that one i got right somehow cuz my parents call cooler boxes "igloos", maybe it's a common slang in indo in the 60s-80s (p.s. im indonesian & i speak american english) Ibis being bin chickens like raccoons being trash pandas lol (none of them are common in indonesia, maybe our equivalents are monkeys or somethin)
I never realised that the heeler breed came from cross breeding with native dingoes, wouldn’t that mean the Heeler family (in the bluey universe) are at least partially First Nations? That’s so cool!!!
Did you know the most likely way dingos got to Australia is by a group of domestic dogs riding on a boat form mainland Asia into Australia, which means they have wolf and dog genes, which also means (some) Australian heelers (crossed with dingos)have this line of genes:wolf to domestic dogs to dingo to domestic dogs again, just a fun fact I feel you should know!(I don’t mean to sound rude when say this)
I liked it when Rebecca Parham talked about her own basset hound Charlie Barkins, and mentioned how her family would sometimes call dogs by their breed, not their name. "Hello, German Shepherd! Good morning, Dachshund! Hello, Cattle Dog!" The first two were definitely different breeds and drawn realistically, but the last one was drawn as Bluey.
I live in Queensland and bin chickens love Queensland like Kate temple made a whole series of books about bin chickens to help people in New South Wales and other states and territories in Australia 🇦🇺
im 15 and i watch bluey religiously and own a bluey plush bluey figure of blueys friends and the family and even own a bingo wall carpet no shame what so ever
4:42 I actually do use some of the slang that I hear in the show (and constantly quote/reference it) and every time I do, I gain a little accent as I say it. Afterwards, it goes away but the switch from normal to Australian accent in a “regular” sentence makes it sound so weird 😅
The only, ONLY problem I have with Bluey is how they didn't give the Magpie a proper warble or swoop cry. They made it sound like a crow or something. Adore the show, though.
Just came to add that at 5:14 is not a Kangaroo but a Potoroo! :) (Even tho it doesn't reaaaally look like one.) That's what they call it on both the toy set and in the book!
My usa friends LOVE bluey. And have admitted to flexing they have an Aussie friend that they’ve hung out with and understand so much of the show then explain a lot of the situations (like magpies) and the language. They also give me a hard time with the vernaculars because they know I find it cringe 😂😂😂

i actually have a classmate that has a bit of a Australian accent because of bluey (were Filipinos) he was actually the one who encouraged me to watch Bluey

im australian and ATLEAST 80% OF THE SLANG, I DONT USE
I only got the flip flops question right because of that one episode pony ride
random fact but dingos are not native to Australia, they were however one of if not the first introduced species which is why they are often considered native. scientists are not entirely sure of when they first came to Australia but estimate it at around 3,500 years ago based on DNA evidence.
Maybe Indonesian traders landing in the top end?
I was one of those kids who watched to much American TV and had an American accent when I was little but now it’s more like a watered down Aussie accent. This show really is so amazing at capturing the Aussie culture and I adore it
I don't care if it's for kids I love it!
I'm form the Philippines and I watch it with my niece. It is healing my inner child and educating my niece so win win
This is an amazing video! Honestly why did I never notice you are Aussie I am too!!
What a great commentary on Bluey! I am Australian and I was introduced to Bluey by my granddaughter who was 2 at that time. She loves the introductory music of the show.
Being a part Australia New Zealander who watches bluey relentlessly, I understand Aussie slang and love the show. 3:04
as someone who over analyzes shows (and as someone who's from Australia) I really like Bluey, not only because it reminds me of my own family on my dad's side, but also because it's a good show for kids, yet manages to add subtle things that show that sadder or darker things happened in the past that may not be showed or stated directly in the show.
help in the episode it’s mentioned that’s not a kangaroo it’s a wallaby 😭 5:13
It’s actually a pademelon, it’s stated in the book version of the episode.
💖💖💖
(OMG, I ALSO GOT 3/3 on your game, and I'm mexican, so HOORAY!!! 🤣🤣🤣)
5:14, that’s actually a wallaby not a kangaroo!! One of Australia’s many endangered native species
It's set in Brizzy? That's where I am. Awesome! I've never watched the show but since I've recently heard that it's got fans globally and as you just bought to my attention it's set where I live then I have to check it out. Great video mate! :D
EVERYONE WAKE UP JELLY JESS NEW VIDEO
as an Aussie u also have to love, that its Aussie made, produced and owned....only companies like BBC and Disney have distribution rights in other countries and regions (which FUN FACT: Disney tried to get the show to be more Americanized, which of course the owners said no!!)
edit: also their are Bluey for adult fanclubs online espeically FB, which i'm apart of)
American bluey and jess fan here! I only missed the last question on the slang test. Great video!
That was the coolest merch reminder I've ever seen
I just woke up and I found this video. Thank you for making my day, I am a huge Bluey fan🤩🤩🤩🤩. Oh and I scored 2/3 on that slang test. The first one stumped me 😅. Anyway, hope your doing well, make sure you get some rest, and have a good day 😄😄
In the event that i decide go move countries, Australia is honestly up there around spot 1-3 even with the crazy wildlife. Bluey did bring it up in score
YES
I’m ten my name is Jess and I live in Australia
You are so RIGHT Bluey was a big part of mylife
Your content is so interesting, new sub! 💕
I LOVE BLUEY
I was born in England but had half of my parents Australian. We now live here in Aussie. I am proud to be a F.I.R.E carrier (Friends igniting reconciliation through education) witch means I get to learn about aboriginal culture! One of the things I have learnt is that the ‘dijerydoo’ (I have no idea how to spell it) is actually called a watakary. (again no idea. (If you sound it out you get the name))
Still watch it and watched all the bluey minisoads more that 10 times oh and as for the show I've watched each season definitely more than 20 times
im nailing the slang game
Oh........I completely forgot that Bluey is the Second Coming of the Nazarene!
I'm so in love with this show.
when i heard u say 'hearing the shows say australian slang that way kinda makes me cringe' i jumped cause i actually rlly love it when they do that?? ( as a non-australian )
Fun fact! In bluey they only use colors dogs can see so dogs love this show too!
I was today years old when I found out that 'esky' is slang and not just the word for cooler box
Interesting fact, this show, also same name in police drama television series (That was 1976). This video about 2018 series.
My little niece LOVES bluey!
My little brother and I watch this show together and he’s taken on so much of the lingo it’s so cute, we’re from the US
I'm surprised my LO doesn't have an Australian accent due to Bluey being on in our house 24/7.
WHATS THAT MEEEAAAAN?
I died 😂
"arvo" meaning afternoon sounds new to me, though i thought everyone knows thongs mean flip-flops. y'all calling a cooler box an "esky", that one i got right somehow cuz my parents call cooler boxes "igloos", maybe it's a common slang in indo in the 60s-80s (p.s. im indonesian & i speak american english)
Ibis being bin chickens like raccoons being trash pandas lol (none of them are common in indonesia, maybe our equivalents are monkeys or somethin)
I never realised that the heeler breed came from cross breeding with native dingoes, wouldn’t that mean the Heeler family (in the bluey universe) are at least partially First Nations? That’s so cool!!!
4:34 I ended up sounding British and American somehow and I’m fully Australian
Ah so how the states see Australia
Did you know the most likely way dingos got to Australia is by a group of domestic dogs riding on a boat form mainland Asia into Australia, which means they have wolf and dog genes, which also means (some) Australian heelers (crossed with dingos)have this line of genes:wolf to domestic dogs to dingo to domestic dogs again, just a fun fact I feel you should know!(I don’t mean to sound rude when say this)
Bluey has retroactively cured my childhood trauma and I can't believe how many phrases I've just absorbed from it.
I learned that you call flip flops 'Thongs' from Bluey and it makes a lot of sense to me lol. [I'm from Scotland fyi]
Went to America this year and the first thing someone said was “listen he talks like bluey”😊
i got 1 right in the what's that mean quiz 💀💀💀💀💀💀💀💀
I love this show soooo much
4:42 I actually do use some of the slang that I hear in the show (and constantly quote/reference it) and every time I do, I gain a little accent as I say it.
